i used to consider sharks to be evidence for creation - and against evolution because it was stated that they are largely unchanged after millions of years ( hence, 'what evolution?')..

that's not the case, however.

Frankie I got a distinction in A level physics (not much but someting) and my friend is an astro-physicist at Edinburgh university....... what you said.... wasn't true based on what we know possible now.

If you have evidence of it being true, just as all other facts/truth/science you are required to provide it.

Otherwise it is just an idea you are putting forward.....which is fine.....but expect to be questioned and asked for evidence.

I know it seems like many science favourable people here are anal on wanting proof and evidence on every small thing.... but that is because we know what happened when we decided to just let things go, without the evidence and just accept them or assume it could be true/might be true.... you end up a JW for 25 years.

Let's all just stick to the most honest stance we can make. What er have evidence for and nothing more. Conjecture is fine, but that is all it is...

By the way I purposefully never said SCIENCE is the only mechanism of persuasion, I specifically said..... evidence is required. Though I only trust the scientific method, for a means to analyse truth, i appreciate some do not, some do not even know about it. Still the minimum required beyond opinion is evidence. IF the opinion comes from someone unqualified in what they speak.... well you can imagine how much weight most would have in it and just how much evidence would be required.

There is no disrespect intended....I am sure you would agree......Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence....

The irony is, evolution has no connection to atheism or belief.

Anyone thinking it SERIOSULY misunderstands it. All evolution does is explain the influences on species adaptation over time. That is all it does. The EVIDENCE makes clear that genes and the enviroment influence how species change.

THAT IS IT. No more. Nothing to do with a god, nothing to do with how life began on earth. Nothing to do with the big bang. Nothing to do with history and carbon dating... we see it happening now! YOU can see it happening now. But you dont even know what IT is.....

So when RELIGIOUS people go nuts about evolution, they don't realise THEY are the ones making it an issue. Here on this forum, in the last few weeks we have discussed cosmology, astronomy, physics, chemistry and evolution. But the religious attack the evolution thread because TO THEM it is an issue. It is YOUR beliefs being proved wrong IF you say evolution is false. But if you decide to stand by it.... great. Good for you. But it has nothing to do with athiests.

Half of scientists believe in god and evolution, the pope believes in evolution, the head of the HUMAN DNA project believes in god and helped proved evolution true beyond doubt.

You are in a pit of ignorance as I was AND it is your fault if you don't read these facts and decide to educate yourself!!!!

If you associate evolution with atheism, if you think evolutionary believers are militaristic and aggresive....... know you are talking about 97% of sceintists with half of them being believers in your god !

P.s. Just to be clear, my motives in discussing evolution is based on how ignorant I was due to the lies I was told as a JW. I simply tell and signpost people to the information I wish I had access to so I... could decide for myself ! People come here and attack a scientific hypothesis without even being able to explain the hypothesis and it is embarassing, frustrating and highly irresponsible!!!

he is an elder(40), his wife and their 2 daughters (21 &19), all 4 are also regular pioneers.

I am an atheist, with that said.....

Maybe they just read the bible....... most JW's don't. It clearly says everyone should keep doing it and all partakers were not anointed in that upper room according to JW teaching. I am suprised it does not get asked more.

This being said, any interaction with a deity such as an anointing is by all standards a 'miracle' event. I hope for those kids sake, they are mentally strong, because unless they can one day admit their mistake, like many ex JW anointed, they will spend their life trying to explain why told people they experienced a miracle by god.

their view of apostates seems to be out of the realm of the ordinary, the natural.

its as if the words of apostates are supernatual or spiritistic as if apostates are some kind of jedi knights who can slightly wave their hands or twitch their eyes and bring one under a spell.

They have been trained to be fearful of ANY opposing views, so much so I have seen people change the channel on David Attenborough for daring to disagree with 8 window cleaners in Brooklyn....

Never mind the independantt thinking man/woman/teen who dares to walk away from the GB and Watchtower for REASONS.

They are scared to death that they may hear the reasons, that is all it is. As WT has said for decades..... that SEED can ferment and grow!

When in reality, truth by nature of it being TRUTH cannot be proven false.

However.....what is false can be proven to be not 'the truth'

Some JW on the street, my reaction...

today i had some of my worst experiences.

i saw a jw group walking on preaching.

one of them knows me well, we share a lot of week-end on rbc.. my first reaction was rage and nerves.

They are just doing what we once did. Don't get me wrong, I remember the same feelings too. Anger, frustration, wanting to shout the lies out loud but also the draining nature of leaving making you want to hide from it all, also.

It is hard, but prove Watchtower wrong, be nice, be calm, smile and be friendly....... show them how foreign to humanity they have become.

Is it kind of funny that JWs don't give Jesus resurrection day any notice?

if you think about it, for a die hard christian the day jesus was supposed to be resurrected and back in heaven, thereby fulfilling his earthly mission, is a very big day.

all the jws i know never even thought about it.

in fact if i had mentioned it, i bet they would have looked me at strangely.

The Brooklyn Eagle did a tally of sales in November 2013. It was just the property in Brooklyn and just the recent sales...
