so i had a good conversation wth my brother, who i thought was a devout jw.
he eventually asked "are you going to the meetings?
", i said "no" then he said "why not, you know we're near the end".
Bio - I think there are quite possibly a LOT of witnesses just like your brother......but they tow the line anyway and they don't mutter a word of doubt because they don't know who they can trust. Wives, brothers, friends can all turn on you in a heartbeat and ruin your life.
My honest opinion is that there are thousands if not tens of thousands of witnesses that feel the same way your brother does....but.....who do they dare talk to?

my little brother (age 19) just got df'ed and is likely going to come live with me.
the entire family (who are all still devout) know that if he decides to do that, he is never coming back since i da'ed years ago and will set him straight.
my only concern is that he may appeal it to keep from losing the family... he only stayed the night at her house twice got to second base.

fuck you.. i was raised in a jw family in the 1980's-1990's where we had to do the daily text 7 days a week during breakfast at the family table at 7am sharp between 7:00-7:15am.
this was followed by a "spiritual discussion," which was held every morning between 7:15am and 8:00am.. since we were homeschooled, our weekly field service was required from childhood on friday mornings immediately following the spiritual discussion, followed by saturday afternoon field service after the bookstudy, as well as sunday afternoon field service after the watchtower study.. i was also required to read each watchtower and awake magazine and give oral reports about each magazine i read in order for my father to be sure that i had actually read them.
i can't remember for sure, but i think each watchtower and awake was released every two weeks back then, making a new magazine to read every single week, followed by an oral report on every single article (including the watchtower study articles which i also had to read, then study in our weekly family watchtower study where we marked our answers, then studied again at the sunday watchtower study).. in addition to this, we also had a weekly family bible study at night each week, had a family bookstudy at night in which we marked our answers for the saturday morning bookstudy, had a family watchtower study at night where we marked our answers for the sunday morning watchtower study, had a family prayer together every night before bed, every morning before and after breakfast and every night before and after dinner (not including our half-family prayers for lunch by my mother since we were homeschooled.).
That's awful. It is amazing to me how many JW families function that way. Do the parents really think that God wants/expects little children to be treated like that? If so......does that really make ANYONE WANT to live forever?

I would get to the DC at 7:30 to start setting out the danishes and OJs and what not. I used to love when it turned 8:00 because there would be a WALL of people waiting to get in. When the attendant would open the doors there would be a BULL RUSH of "brothers" and "sisters" literally elbowing one another as they raced across the concourse to get to teh "barrel seats" and the "gold cup room". The "barrel seats" were exactly what they sound like. Very cushiony....comfortable....swiveling...barrel shaped chairs with a small desk in front of you. The gold cup room had cushioned chairs and was rather dimly lit (good for sleeping). The other 10,000 seats were hard plastic. At 8am......all these loving brothers and sisters would literally run and trample one another to get to the "good seats". I even personally witnessed on more than one occasion, people moving other people's books onto the floor so they could claim a "good" seat for themselves. Shouting matches would ensue....and the attendents would have to step in.
Yep. The only thing better to watch than a nerd fight at school was a JW verbal sparring match where both sides had to watch what they say.
i confess proudly that i was one of the biggest assembly food rapists when it switched to the donation arrangement.
in fact, i would roll up to the counter with a fake list and pretend i was getting food for a huge family, lol.
"uh, yes, hello sister, what a fine morning program that was, may i please have 6 roast beef sandwhiches, 6 chocolate puddings, 6 apple danishes, 6 sodas....etc" and i would eat throughout the entire fking program, as it was so boring there was nothing else to do.

I would have liked to have stocked up and ate during the whole damn thing but at that time, my dad was an assembly nazi. No eating food or candy, no chewing gum, no drawing, no talking, no closing your eyes, you need to sit still for 8 straight hours etc etc. You know....the normal things one might ask any 7 year old boy to do.
