  i remember several years ago, the watchtower through the awake!

  magazine tried to tackle the ufo phenomenon and gave a super-watered-down generalization of it.

  today the subject got more interesting.

  It's amazing how much of this stuff the general public
  is unaware of - how the whole subject is effectively
  ruined or smeared by people with an agenda to keep it
  secret. On the other hand, I realize that it might be the
  most ethical thing to do to keep the matter away from
  full disclosure. Many people are not prepared for proof
  of extraterrestrial life (like The War of the Worlds
  panic). I've read stuff by Greer on and off - some of
  it is really chilling. There was a sister I knew who had a
  bible study with a widow whose husband died while working
  in military intelligence in a foreign assignment. He told
  her that it's all true, the government knows it.

  There have been suggestions that a religious leader like
  the pope might be the first to breach the official
  secrecy, gently. The French government issued an amazing
  private report a couple years back (the "Cometa" report)
  that criticized US secrecy and said an ET explanation
  for UFOs was the most likely hypothesis.

  Now that, would be an interesting way for the WTS to
  end!

  uncaring gerontocrats.

  The Society always brags that they are directed by holy
  spirit (see June 1,2001 WT) I reply, sure, why not? They may be
  directed just like the aging Solomon and his decaying nation!

  "weaker and weaker"(pg.9)
  Well, over at Yahoo Science News(Reuters)is a recent
  headline "Big Drop Seen in Disability Among Older
  Americans" - the article notes that people are not
  just living longer but also "living better".

  Then there's genetic research which some people
  are apparently scared of (Awake pg.8). Again, a
  recent Yahoo Science News Headline (May 5)
  "World's First Genetically Altered Babies Born"
  - they combined two human eggs from different donors
  to create a viable embryo, to help infertile women.
  One child is already 4 years old and has , in effect,
  two mothers.

  I love it
  Science is moving so fast
  The poor tired old gerontocrats can't keep up.
  Why, they could just wake up one day
  and find themselves obsolete!

  Recently,I noticed that some teenagers and "weak" publishers
  weren't actually shunning my step-daughter. I warned her to meet
  with Witnesses in secret, out of view, so they wouldn't get into
  trouble with our ever vigilant (and braindead) elders. This
  arrangement seems to be working out.

  I wonder if the df'ing arrangement could crumble quietly if
  the Society df's too many young people. I know one congregation
  where it seems the norm among teenagers and this has got to be
  weakening the whole thing especially with parents who are getting
  burned out. Add to the mix the eroding example of elders'
  families and the internet's subtle influence - and who knows?
  Wouldn't it be great to remove this club from blind and
  corrupt theocrats! The Society has got to be worried since they
  create meeting parts at assemblies on shunning family members.
  They also do everything they can to legally hold on to this
  threat and may devote MORE attention to it in new instruction
  for elders.

  I used to read Judge Dread comix.
  He once was stopped from enforcing the law by fellow judges
  because they realized they couldn't jail everybody without
  collapsing the system.

  So, discreetly converse with df'd people
  take them to lunch away from spying eyes.
  Every little bit helps to break down the sick authority
  of deceived gerontocrats who refuse reform.

  The Quick-Build Deception.

  i was driving past a disused kingdom hall last week, here in wsm.

  it looked very out of place with its watchtower crennelations, like a mediaevel sort of castle, with a huge sign announcing that this was now the home of the british red cross.

  however, we are now blessed with a new, quick-build kingdom hall on the outskirts of town.. but this is not the true story, this quick-build kingdom hall took 3 months to erect, unlike the publicity blurb handed out to our local newspaper which claimed that the work was done in 3 days.. being involved in the building trade, i knew that the local equipment hire company had been supplying the dubs with concrete mixers, diggers, back hoes and jcb's for fully 3 months before the build officially started.. all the ground work was done weeks beforehand, all the services laid on, the roof trusses were ready and waiting as was the curtain walling and window shutters.

  Deception, indeed! Another scam they love to pull especially
  with assembly hall construction is "low-balling" the cost.

  Tell the rank and file a new assembly hall will only cost
  800,000 bucks then jack the price up to 2 million, 3 million,
  heck, once they've committed to it the skies the limit.

  I found the whole thing about as honest as any Defense
  Dept. project. (i.e. a total ripoff)

  endlessly about faith without works (gotta keep selling magazines)
  but when do they concern themselves with works without faith?
  Apparently, real faith is not a priority with them. In the world,
  there are plenty of examples of religious devotion - without
  faith - for example, Jews who keep kosher and follow tradition
  but are personally agnostic - or Catholics who stick to traditions
  but personally have no deep conviction about any of it.

  And Jehovah's Witnesses with works but without faith?

  Teenagers leading a "double life" until they can leave home.

  Publishers who zealously put in hours and never miss meetings
  NOT BECAUSE THEY HAVE FAITH, but because they are obsessive -
  compulsive (lots of these! they love rules!)

  Drunken, lying, corrupt elders (more and more of these)

  C.O.'s who don't give a rodents' posterior about the flock but
  love the adulation.

  Any idiot who insists on "house to house" records and endlessly
  calling back on not-at-homes. (What? no holy spirit? Isn't Jehovah
  directing this work?)

  And of course, Witnesses who molest kids or cover it up ( I guess
  they don't have faith that God exists or cares)

  A few points about "spiritism". First, despite what Deu. 18
  says, the Bible is not consistent on the subject. While
  "looking for omens" is condemned, Prov. 16:33 says "into the
  lap the lot is cast down, but every decision by it is from
  Jehovah".( a method later used to pick an apostle -Acts 1:26)
  While sorcery is condemned, correspondence magick is used
  by Jacob (Genesis 30: 31-42 - the principle behind voodoo).
  Did Joseph read omens? (Genesis 44:5) He definitely
  interpreted dreams, which falls into that category. Making
  the claim that God is revealing an omen is something any
  psychic could assert.

  Also, psychic ability is now being referred to as
  "intuitive ability". And why not? There is no strict line
  of demarcation separating a pure psychic revelation from a
  brilliant creative notion that just happens to pop into
  your head. It's just a matter of degree. The Society,
  being jealous for power and control, rejects any idea
  of spiritual gifts which is absurd, considering that some
  people have strong natural abilities - and again, there
  is no strict dividing line between the obviously miraculous
  and other less dramatic talents ( 1 Cor. 12: 28 "abilities
  to direct").

  more and more desperate. Science is threatening to create miracles
  that would make the Watchtower message irrelevant and obsolete.
  The gnarled old theocrats can't stand that!
  Here's some silly quotes:

  "... not everyone is convinced that gene therapy offers the "silver
  bullet" cure of the future. Indeed, according to surveys, people
  may not even want to have their genetic makeup analyzed"

  If genetic therapy proves successful, the FEAR of knowing what's
  wrong with your genetic makeup would go away because cures would
  then exist for whatever defect was found!

  The Awake (pg. 8) laments a perceived cycle of enthusiasm and
  disappointment over promised cures. Nonetheless, cures for
  countless diseases plainly exist, no matter what false starts
  took place. Maybe we should respect an authority like the
  Watchtower Society when it warns about cycles of enthusiasm
  and disappointment since they've been experts on doing exactly
  that for 120 years.

  As to living to be 100, the Awake quotes "How and Why We Age"
  as saying "These centenarians would not be immortal. But what
  would they die from? They would simply become weaker and weaker
  until death occurred".
  This kind of dated quote galls me. Take a good look at the
  anti-aging research and you will quickly see that "weaker and
  weaker" is NOT where the research is leading. By preventing
  or reversing the aging process, vibrant life is a reasonable goal.
  (New England Journal of Medicine July 5, 1990 see also Grow Young
  With HGH by Dr. Ronald Klatz).

  And as to the latest breakthrough....
  Reuters News announced that scientists used a new genetic therapy
  to reverse a form of blindness in dogs. (Human tests will follow).
  Some of the researchers were ecstatic about it. "Genetic medicine
  is now making things we could only dream of -- a reality."

  I love it that events are moving so quickly that WTS propaganda
  is almost obsolete by the time it gets received in the mail.

  A solid analysis.

  Potential elders should be warned about what they may
  be getting into. First, there's legal liability that the
  Society is backing away from. Then, there's the real
  danger of wrecking your marriage or family or health
  or sanity or finances. I'm not kidding here - I've seen
  too much self-destruction by elders trying to live up to
  the Society's expectations.

  I am inclined to ignore the competing (or contradictory )
  scriptures and simply look at the results of each approach.

  Yes, Witnesses count up lots of hours spent in the "ministry"
  selling books and magazines door-to-door. After years of being
  a pioneer and an elder I don't find these statistics credible.
  More than that, compare the growth rates of Witnesses with
  many groups like Pentecostals, Mormons, and others. The guilt-
  enforced door to door work just isn't very effective - compared
  with the simple word of mouth zeal found in various Protestant
  groups.

  Other activities that are Christian "works" amoung Witnesses
  don't look too great either. I knew some brothers who
  organized witnessing in institutions like prisons or old-age
  homes. Getting brothers to volunteer to visit and help was like
  pulling teeth! They always found something else to do, even
  if bible studies could be had just for asking. MEANWHILE,
  the local fundies had no shortage of people willing to get
  involved, week after week - often from different churches!
  I actually think they did it because it made THEM HAPPY!

  As for other works like helping with the chronically ill,
  or charity, let's not even go there. "I have to go out in
  service" is enough of an excuse for any elder to avoid
  burdensome widows and orphans. Remember that these charitable
  activities LITERALLY DON'T COUNT - you can't put them on your
  service slip at the end of the month. In many cases, the
  system simply works against good works this way. I think the
  "born-agains" are better off with their own faith and joy
  as motivations, however flawed that may be.
