  I don't foresee them "turning against the organization all at once". That's not it.

  The Organization turns against its past all at once! When you observe recent changes, do you think this could be happening?

  If you acknowledge that widespread doubts exist - and that they could even be "universal"- what then could happen?

  It's the "truth" ......................but we can dance and sing like Pentecostals.

  They can just repeat "the truth" over and over - even cynically - and change whatever they wish. They don't have to believe it, Witnesses are eager to be lied to.

  OK, Bill -you raise a fair point. Perhaps they need to maintain the "preaching" work because they cannot face the horror -whether personal or organizational - of admiting that it was all a waste.

  or do they?

  Perhaps they write it all off as "fulfilled" - or........

  Consider a possibility: should we believe that 100% of the WTS leadership fully believes in the "Truth" ? Is it possible that some of them may be agnostic or atheists?

  What "lesson" did the Watchtower teach everyone (with half a brain) about 'what happens if you sincerely lose faith in the Organization and just want to leave? How did they hunt down and persecute Ray Franz - instead of just letting him go?

  I have known various responsible older brothers through the years and many of them "have their own (contrary) ideas" which they keep very quiet about. If you doubt, the wise course is to shut up and not lose everything.

  Is it possible that - without intending to do so - the Watchtower may have created a profoundly rotten facade that conceals the faithlessness of its leadership?

  It might be instructive to take a close look at body language/ facial expression expertise in regard to GB talks. There's a whole TED lecture on the topic.

  i used to love the old ones.

  I'm talking about WTS leaders, not the idiot zombies they control.

  Does a point in time arise when they realize they simply have no great need for publishers anymore? That it's futile?

  What is so wonderful about being in command of 8 million passive-aggressive fools? Does it ever get tired? Boring?

  Take a good overview of the recent changes being reported on this site and ask yourself if we could be observing these kinds of thoughts emerging.

  It is an argument from silence but I wonder where are the recordings of traffic controllers in Ukraine? Why haven't they been made public? Were fighter jets following MH17 as Russia claims?

  To the contrary, cult members are still people. Tipping point ideas consider and embrace human irrationality as with social trends and politics. If economics relies only on "laws" to predict mass behavior, they risk being a pseudoscience.

  However fanatical and deluded Witnesses are, they cannot reach the level of horror that was the Cultural Revolution in China. Yet, it all ended and radically changed direction suddenly when the ideology utterly failed in practice - and the leaders knew it.

  The current leadership of China - and Xi Jinping in particular - speak as men painfully branded by this event. They are deeply committed to pragmatism thereby.

  So, I see the Watchtower as similar - and wonder what sort of thoughts and emotions emerge when a deeply held idea fails?

  An additional point I wanted to make about this subject involves the question....

  What is the motivational power of a realization?

  You might consider this as a sort of subset of the "tipping point" concept. Suppose a situation goes on far too long, to the point of becoming an absurdity, an object of disgust or ridicule..... but does not collapse immediately because of suppression?

  It could be that a sort of "enlightenment" or "awakening" suddenly appears among many - that the folly of the situation "goes viral" without warning.

  What happens after that point?

  I would think that it could quickly become a negative obsession, a repellent object that screams to be euthanized in the minds of the newly wise!

  I wonder if this is happening behind the Kremlin-like walls of the Watchtower now. "WTF !!?? What were we thinking? OMG! this is so stupid!

  Could we witness sudden radical change quite soon? Maybe so. What power does a sudden realization have?

  Yeah, and people in Detroit are getting their water cut off while their city collapses.

  So, China has as yet empty cities - while billions of dollars in weapons and military assets are now in the hands of ISIS or the Taliban. And so the cities are worse?

  Everytime I read about the advantages of the US, one question enters my mind:

  What about corruption?

  How much destruction can corruption cause? Can it ruin a city? A state? A nation? Yes to all......

  China is making a heroic effort to fight corruption - even executing corporate criminals while many of such aren't even prosecuted in the US. Corruption has become so entrenched in the US, it may go unnoticed - as with revolving door employment of Federal regulators, which some countries would find unthinkable.

  Can anyone consider Obama, John Kerry,or George Bush to be 'the best and the brightest' in contrast to past US leaders? Seriously?

  Beyond that, China is rapidly pulling ahead in education of engineers and scientists. On that basis alone, they may dominate the future, as BusinessInsider has pointed out.
