  I should add: a member of my adopted family...and a coward, when I became better than him at the things he would crush me at when I was a kid, he wouldn't participate anymore...lol. I am not suprised in the least that he tried that "machievellian" crap...worst thing is his family worships him like he's the second coming of christ or something. Pedantic jerk. End of file. Not that I'm bitter or anything...lol

  I know Mr Pole VERY well.....he is a member of my family...a self important jerk. Always looked down his nose at everyone he didn't think was as "smart" as him. Truth be known he wasn't all that bright either.. His ex could tell you that. A know it all who alienated his two oldest children. This is typical behavior and his father would NOT have been impressed, a man I admired and respected. Just another nail in the coffin for this joke religion..

  Dealing with elders during my mom's surgery

  my mother has been working forwell over a year to have a gastric bypass and she finally got the ok from her doctor and insurance.

  the date is set for this coming friday.

  although, i'm not 100% sure this will happen because she was diagnosed with pneumonia and a partially collapsed lung this past week.

  Hi Noni1974. I hope things go well for your mom and for your family. It's hard enough to deal with family illness and then the added stress of sanctimonious goof balls who may try to throw their weight around. I really can't add more to the great advice you have received already. I can only say what I would do. Be there for my MOTHER and no one else. Her wishes are paramount and MUST be adhered to. If you are quietly intense you will carry so much more power than getting upset. As the other posters have said, these clowns have no hold on ANYONE that is not given to them. In my experience quiete determination followed with a good strategy of support for the person you are there for works best. Pick your battles. Expect the best but plan for the worst, I know I resorted to a cliche but it works. My favorite was to say nice and quiet " I'm sorry I don't believe I was speaking to you....I was speaking to my mother", when they would try to play the control game. However that being said I have found in recent experience here; in Canada; that most elders who serve on hlc and patient visitation and non confrontational . They know they don't have a leg to stand on if they play games or try to assert authority over a patient's wishes.

  Anyway take care and hugs to you, hope everything will work out and you can work on the recovery phase; for both your mom and YOU.

  Sic Semper Tyrannis: I enjoyed your comment and could not agree more. Global polarization is coming and it will be multi polar, until one rises from the ashes of a nuclear exchange to rule the roost. Of course that's assuming there would be something worth ruling. One national power rising to challenge the U.S. and its allies for world domination is very unlikely. At best it will be an alliance, however as you pointed out, China has few friends to choose from. Russia and China were not really friends when both were communist; there were over 80 type A divisions on the former Sino Soviet border, and many clashes over the disputed line. I would say they are allied now for convenience; and of course that's good enough. I find your idea about the muslim world intriguing. Certainly the state of flux we observe now in the Middle East with its "arab spring" has brought the idea of new pan arabism to light. The problem with that is; and I'm not making racial slurs here, but referring to centuries of history; that you can put two friendly arabs in a room together but both will not come out. Agreement for common cause does not register culturally and that will be an obstacle. Yet even those things can change.

  China a world power? Interesting question. China is certainly a nuclear power. It is also a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council with veto voting rights. Yes China has a history of voting with the then Soviet Union. At the moment all indicators in the past two years point to a coming full on military alliance with Russia. They signed an energy agreement to assist in accessing Siberian crude; since the U.S. has made it very clear that they will not allow China to have all the oil it wants due to their human rights policies; and the money is flowing from Beijing to Moscow. Certainly China is a regional power, but to conclude that China is a world power on its own is ambitious. China has immense internal problems to solve before being able to project its influence internationally. As well; although being numerous, China's armed forces do not possess the ability to project their power anywhere other than within their own area and its navy; other than ballistic missile submarines; can really only control its coastline, and that includes its naval aviation.

  So at the moment it is reasonable to conclude that China; although powerful in its region, and with economic influence with its trading partners; is not a world power. Coming global polarization may include a Sino-Russo military alliance(it is interesting to notice that the U.S. and India have entered in to some initiatives together, so that two most numerous nations in Asia do not come together) and perhaps even Iran.

  Just my two cents, and that's about all it's worth..have a great day everyone.

  5 years, Turning 1000

  i didn't want to waste post # 1,000 on arguing with someone, so i just wanted to celebrate my five years on jwn and two years of active posting.

  in that time, i've gone from being a believer to fading hard core and taking my wife and kids with me.

  i credit this site with being instrumental in our leaving.

  I have always wondered something related to this myself. Has anyone ever heard of so called 'relatives' of Jesus, real or claimed that have existed down through the ages? I have never read anything about it in the WTBS literature. I think I feel a new historical research project coming....hmmmm. All kidding aside, if Jesus really did exist, there must be some relatives of his. Wouldn't they preserve as a family tradition that they were his relatives as a claim to fame? Any thoughts anyone? Not to hijack this topic, just curious.

  Ouija Board Hysteria

  i always wondered why jw's were always so afraid of ouija(pronounced as "wee-yaw" not "wee-gee") boards.

  does anyone have any speculation about who started these jw myths?.

  anyone who has actually tried the board and would like to give their opinions are welcome.

  I have no experience with these Ouija boards but would have no problem using one. I have researched events and interviewed many people who claimed to have contact with demons and so forth. In my humble opinion there are many things that mankind does not know for a certainty, but there has NEVER been a definate, repeatable, undeniable with out a SHADOW of a doubt of contact beyond the gulf between the living and the dead. End of story. I believe that the peope involved are sincere and believed what they may have heard or seen; however that does not change anything. Questioning why or why not someone would make a story up about such things doesn't change anything either. If this stuff were true such contact would be happening all of the time everywhere. If there is a spirit realm, it lies beyond our abilities as humans to cross it, and a inanimate object would not be needed to make such contact. Using the tactile to contact the immaterial makes no sense.

  Thanks for posting this question as it's been bothering me for awhile as well. At the DC this summer the DO who gave the public talk said that"bible study shows that the Anglo American dual world power will still be ruling when armageddon comes". I looked at my wife with disbelief. What an ambitious statement. What that really says is: We feel the English speaking peoples will still run the show here on earth when armageddon comes". Zeitgeist at its best. They have known nothing else in their recollections and so nothing else could be possible.

  Great Britain and the United States while cooperating together after the war of 1812;the last shooting war between the two I believe;(correct me if I'm wrong), have NEVER ruled as a dual, matching, power. England's star was well on the decline at the start of WWI, and certainly by the close of WW2 there was only one nation that could effectively crush the economy of any nation in the world with its navy and of course its nuclear weapons program, and it wasn't Great Britain. With monumental effort Great Britain did wrest the Falklands from the Argentinians, but that would be the end. England did enjoy centuries worth of European diplomatic history and thus an advanced relationship with those powers, and the U.S. did not, yet that does not indicate that these two countries ruled the world together then nor now. Even though Great Britain did assist the U.S. in achieving some political and diplomatic legitimacy with the rest of Europe. Her foreign office connections due to its long history would have served the U.S. well in fleshing out its own fledgling State Department, and its intelligence apparatus could have assisted the U.S. as well, but not to the point of equality. The WTBS(BS is guess what?) has written revisionist history at best. They have used the same practises in assigning more than needed importance to the so called WWI, when evidence exists to indicate that there were other "world wars" prior to this.

  When Nato was formed in 1949 the U.S. took the primary role, not Great Britain, although later on England would be responsible for the northern army group area of West Germany. England is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council along with the U.S., France, Russia, and China, but again this does not assign her an equal role with the United States as a world power whether she has achieved nuclear weapon capability or not.

  I agree with the posts before that suggest that recent memory and not the facts are what the WTBS use to their advantage. Fred Franz was not a scholar and certainly did not use an investigative or scholarly approach to his theories and writings. He relied on his pseudo intellectual mumbo jumbo to complicate his writing in a time when the availability of the works he and his writers quoted or mis quoted was not there. Now that is not the case, we can look at the raw data ourselves and can even communicate with the authors to get past the "maybeline". (Apologies to the ladies who use it). This is the source of their fear of higher education. This will undo their current doctrine and their fallacious so called logic.
