Thanks for the chart. I like examples of Watchtower moving backward, flip floping, after their claims to never do it.
A side thought, Do you have page numbers for those references?
the following table illustrates the extent to which watchtower sometimes goes in their interpretation of scriptures.
when i look at that table and the charts that follow, it makes me think of the word kaleidoscope.
i suspect we've all played with such a toy when we were kids.. kaleidoscope -- a constantly changing pattern or sequence of objects or elements.

what saying made it all around the country?.
the ones that were passed around, word of mouth.. for example.
"donations basis proves jehovah is behind the work!".
- We must be at our work urgently, since the time left is reduced. (Heard a lot about 40 years ago.)

...in the U.S., growth is mainly in hispanic congregations, not in english speaking areas? And yet, everybody here has pretty much the same access to the internet...
There may be some cultural differences at work here too. There are many economic and social groups within the U.S. I wonder what the internet penetration is among Hispanics.
Also, in my limited experience, Hispanics as a group are very submissive to, and respectful of, authority. For those who are already JWs, if the Society says 'stay off the internet,' they are likely to comply, the result being fewer defectors from the Watchtower. If the number of defectors eventually increases, the number of new ones coming will likely decline as well.
This is the cause and effect the Society is fighting so hard against. (The cause: people becoming informed via the internet, and many leaving the Org. The effect: Less people to declare their message, less zeal among those left in, resulting in lower increases.)

Even if we didn't have the truth our religion is still a great way of life.
1995 drew a line of demarcation.
the doctrinal rudder of freddie franz was gone, the sacred cow of the 1914-generation had been slaughtered and the internet had arrived!.
it will take a while longer but the time is coming when pre-1995 old timers like the gentleman below will be an impotent force within the society - if that hasn't happened already.
Another thought.
There is already less increase in advanced countries than there has been in the past. Is it possigle that Third World countries, where information is less available, are producing the real increase.
Mayabe those places will be targeted more heavily by the Watchtower in the future. I wonder if this is one of the reasons the Society became an NGO affiliate of the United Nations and still has some hidden NGO connections, to pave the way to gain entry into countries previously inaccessable.
Just an idea.

I think youi make a reasonable point. You can scare the older ones by demonizing the internet; many of them have no interest in it anyway. But the younger ones, who are much more tech savvy, will not be so easy to fool.
When the old ones are gone, and the younger ones take their place, the Society will have to develop new scare tactics. It may not be as easy as it has been in the past.

@ Peridotgreen,
How right you are. Years ago I noticed that some Bibles translate Isiah 65:11 (the ' god of good luck' scripture) as 'setting the table for the god of good fortune,' or simply 'for Fortune.' Examples here.
So it's the same thing. Witnesses were fooling themselves by saying 'fortunate' rather than 'lucky.'
And the Watchtower magazine, 9-1-80 issue, p30 suggests that using the word luck to simply mean "good results" is perfectly ok anyway.
It's one of those famous Watchtower myths that catches hold and goes on for decades.

Why did I wait til today to click on this thread? These are hilarious. Here are a few more.
-- Never say you were ‘lucky’. It means you worship the god of good luck. Say you were 'fortunate.'
-- Really enjoyed your fine comment brother.
-- What a fine example you are setting for the congregation.
-- The preaching work is a 'separating' work, we have to find the God's sheep.
-- Millions Now Living Will Never Die
-- This old system can’t last another year. (Been saying that one for about 130 years.)

crisis of conscience within the traralgon congregation of jehovahs witnesses?
part 2december 18, 2011 by sitepost .
Steven Unthank is a private citizen.
In Australia criminal charges can be brought against a person or other entity in three ways. 1) By the police. 2) By the office of Public Prosecutions (like a district attorney). 3) By a private citizen, if the citizen puts the work into investigating and preparing a case. The court will then examine the case and decide if it has merit. If it does, the government prosecutor will take it over.
He is an ex-Witness who is concerned that the Watchtower has refused to comply with the Working With Children Act. He has done a tremendous amount of work in having 5 different Watchtower entities charges with 7 criminal counts each. So far, all counts are still in effect.
