blindnomore,
ScenicViewer, don't forget $1 along with $21 million!
Oops! My bad.
the plaintiff, candace conti's goal from the very beginning was to bring enough attention to this problem to incentivize watchtower to change its policy of secrecy.
the award can be explained as it was decided: separate compensatory and punitive damages.
the punitive award is established in law to punish wrongdoing - here, the conscious disregard for others - and deter that conduct in the future.

Regarding the break down of how the punitive damages are paid,

DNCall: You said
"the apportionment used for regular damages may not be the same as for punitive damages. I belive the special verdict item that triggered punitive damages was that Watchtower acted with malice."
This what I was given to understand and until I hear differently, this is what I'll go by. If I'm not correct, I'll post the new information.
In the published article that Darth Rutherford referenced here, it says
The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ legal entity, is responsible for the entire punitive damages amount and 40 percent of the compensatory damages, said Rick Simons, attorney for the plaintiff. Sixty percent of the compensatory damages was assessed against Jonathan Kendrick, the man accused of abusing her.
All indications so far are that Watchtower will be paying the entire amount of the $21 Million in punitive damages.
Great news!
jane doe vs the watch tower in the oakland, ca case was awarded $20 million in punitive damages..

Links, please, to case notes, case details etc so that we can start blogging about this and have evidence to provide the naysayers. Thanks.
Try these steps,
1) Click this link, http://apps.alameda.courts.ca.gov/domainweb/html/index.html
2) Click the 'Case Summary' link in the 3rd paragraph.
3) Enter case number HG11558324
4) In the left column, select a category. 'Register of Actions' is a good one, but here several others to look at.
5) Many details of the legal proceedings on 'Register of Actions' page. Scroll to the bottom for the Verdict.
1975 for deniers.
most of today's jws were not members in 1975 or in the 9 years prior to 1975, so they were not eyewitnesses to what really went on during that period.
i was a pioneer in that period, and i was an eyewitness to what went on.. those jws who are still active today and who were around in that period will typically say it was the "brothers" who "ran ahead of jehovah" and "read more into" the 1975 prediction than what was actually stated.
@ Aussie Oz, who said this on the previous page (post 1078),
"I had forgotten this old post of mine... i learned since that this was NOT a quote from the awake, rather a quote of someone talking of the time.
I feel i must make this humble correction to my previous ignorant statement!"
Actually, the magazine you cited (Awake! 10-8-1966) says something pretty close to what you quoted.
How Much Longer Will It Be? (article on p17)
6,000 Years Completed in 1975 (subheading p19)
Then, paragraph 7 says,
"In what year then would the first 6,000 years of man's existence and also the first 6,000 years of God's rest day come to an end? The year 1975.* This is worthy of notice, particularly in view of the fact that the "last days" began in 1914, and that the physical facts of our day in fulfillment of prophecy marks this as the last generation of this wicked world. So we can expect the immediate future to be filled with thrilling events for those who rest their faith in God and his promises."
(footnote) * See the book Life Everlasting - In Freedom of the Sons of God , Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, pages 29-35.
The words are only slightly different from what you quoted, but the meaning is the same!
ok, am i correct in saying that the fds never stated armegedon was coming in 75'?
however, they led everyone to believe it was coming in 75'?.
if the latter question is true, can you provide links to talks or articles that point to this?
@rebel8,
"...the petting zoo is coming before xmas comes next, so I wouldn't miss anything."
Now that seems funny, but sad at the same time. What a terrible thing to say to kids. The manupulative control of this religion is horrifying.
i was shocked ( though i probably shouldn't have been ) when reading the new elders manual concerning whether elders have to confess up about former sins from a few years earlier.
notice this on pg.
38 , paragraph 19 : it states, " if it comes to light or an appointed brother confesses that he has committed a disfellowshipping offense years in the past : the body of elders may determine he can continue to serve if the following is true : the immorality or other serious wrongdoing occured more than a few years ago, and he is genuinely repentant, recognizing that he should have come forward immediately when he sinned.
@ NVR2L8,
You are right, there is a space to put your name, and date and place of baptism. This is only in the 3rd version of the book, but all 3 editions had questions for baptism.
someone mentioned outlaw to me the other day.. i do miss him.
i thought he was coming back after a break.. does anyone have an update?.
I miss the laughs. No one's funnier than Outlaw.

(The Nations Shall Know That I Am Jehovah - How? (book, 1971) p 216, par 9)
9 Shortly, within our twentieth century, the “battle in the day of Jehovah” will begin against the modern antitype of Jerusalem, Christendom.
So, Armageddon, aka the “battle in the day of Jehovah," was supposed to begin sometime between 1971 and 2000.

hamsterbait,
They said Armageddy would come before the end of the 20th century ("Nations shall Know" book)
Do anyone know where it's found in that book?
