@Doug Mason
You are not misunderstanding. The Mormons, Catholics, Anglicans, and other churches have complied with this law, but for some reason that they are not saying, the Watchtower has refused. The original excuse was that they don't have Sunday School, so the law does not apply to them. Nobody seems to believe that will hold up.
You would think that a religion that claims to be the sole source and caretaker of 'truth' on earth would be open, transparent, hiding nothing, and should have been the first to comply.
Certainly the Watchtower tells it's followers they must be scrupulously honest in obeying all laws that don't conflict with God's law. It's a shame the organization doesn't do the same.

Child Health Watchtower deception!
by Marvin Shilmer inchild health watchtower deception!.
today i uploaded a new article addressing a particularly evil deception watchtower promotes in its july 15, 2011 watchtower journal.
when watchtower does what it does in this instance the higher-ups have to know they are misleading folks.

When it comes to Parental Rights, the Society is conflicted.
In blood cases it argues for the rights of the parent to decide for the child, even if death would result to the child.
In abortion cases the Society argues for the rights of the (unborn) child to live.
(I'm not making a statement in support of abortion, just pointing out a double standard.)

I think many x-witnesses use the literature for research, while others have thrown theirs away. I kept mine and want to keep up with the latest. Many thanks!
(Do you have other years available?)

Favorite games and toys as a kid
by littlerockguy inone of my favorite toys when i was a kid was my spirograph.
i don't know whatever happened to it but i wanted to get another one and didn't realize they didn't make them anymore.
i went on ebay and got a super spirograph (complete except for the pens) for a real good price ($30) - i hit it at just the right time since most are listed for $50 to $100.

Farkel said, "All I had was the "From Paradise Lost to Paradise Restored" book to "play" with. It terrified me..."
Now that is funny! Glad I wasn't in until I had experienced at least part of a normal childhood. I can imagine some Witness kids with nothing but their books to play with.

Is this ever accmpanied by the inability to move? It could be related to narcolepsy.
(Awake 4-8-91 p19,20)
"Other symptoms often include sudden muscle weakness, sleep paralysis, and frightening hallucinations."
"REM sleep features may even intrude on a patient’s waking thoughts and superimpose a vivid dream—or a terrifying nightmare—on reality. He may awaken in bed, his body paralyzed in the REM state, and hear voices and see frightening things. Such waking dreams (called hypnagogic hallucinations) may also occur during the day, and about half of all narcoleptics experience them."

Your post reminded me of a remark in the Watchtower regarding what is and what isn't an 'old wives' fable.' It made smile.
(Watchtower May, 1881, p224 of Reprints, article “THE YEAR 1881”)
“Our expectations then, relative to this year [1881] are very different from those of others interested in it. As to “Mother Shipton’s prophecy” we of course give no heed to such ‘old wives’ fables.” But the teachings of THE GREAT PYRAMID are quite different. We have great respect for it…”
(FYI, Mother Shipton's prophecy supposedly was, poetically, “The world to an end shall come, in eighteen hundred eighty one.”)

JW Funerals
by outsmartthesystem inthis is kinda out of the blue....but was brought on by the sad announcement from jwfacts of the passing of his father.
thankfully, that funeral talk was evidently a respectable one......but i have now been to two jw funerals myself in the past 2 years.
i have been extremely dismayed by the talk given in both of them.

The organization has actually pulled back on the sales pitch portion, and allowed more to be said about the individual. I saw a funeral talk outline in the early 1970s, and it was like a Public Talk at the KH. It covered the whole life, death, 144,000, other sheep/great crowd spectrum of Witness beliefs.
The idea was to 'take this fine opportunity to give a thorough witness'. Seems like it was a 45 min outline.
I look back on those talks and am definitely sickened by the memory of them, because they were geared to promote the organization, and the person who died was simply used as a spring board to advance the Society's interests.
