I am so ashamed that i joined this site! i thought that i would meet people here that honour Jehovah here. insread most of the people here are not here for the service of God. they don't know what it means to honour Jehovah. most of them show by their actions trhat they are in the service of man and not the service of Jehovah. For them the service of man is more important than being loyal to the Creator of mankind and all things that reflects his abound intelligence. This site should feel so ashamed to carry the name of JEHOVA because this is definitely not a witness to Jehovah. - MsPassach

Oh, trust me..WE KNOW what it means to honour Jehovah. So many of us suffered abuse whilst honouring Jehovah.

Ya know what MsP..? I am ashamed that I joined this site (betcha didn't think I'd say that!). I am ashamed that the majority of members here have had to join a site for support, love and encouragement. The support, love and encouragement we didn't get whilst in "Jehovah's Happy Organisation"™. I am ashamed because it carries the name of a supposedly intelligent Creator who should have blessed the poor souls who posted here instead of allowing them to suffer years, and years of sexual, physical and emotional abuse after praying ...and trusting ...and waiting ...and waiting ...and trying harder ...and praying some more ...and waiting some more...

Maybe you should stick around and read some of our stories.

i was last affiliated with a minneapolis area congregation a few years back.

we saw prince and the larry graham entourage at a sunday meeting once and at many assemblies and conventions.

i know he was affiliated with a congregation in a city named chanhassen at one time.

I found it a bit odd that he did a concert tour this summer during convention season.

Who is Homeschooling - what works and does not?

my in-laws really wished they had taken control and homeschooled their one granchild.

today, i witnessed a middle school bus stop bully and another group of teenaged girls smoking something illegal.

my 5th grader is headed to middle school next year.

Hi skeeter1, I really want to reply to this in depth but it's 3am here and I need to put my 3 year old back to bed and get some sleep before my youngest wakes me!

To cut it short, I'm in the process of training to become a teacher (I've also worked as a one-to-one Learning Support Assistant to autistic children) and have worked in what can be considered to be 'rough' schools in areas of concentrated social deprivation, so I can identify with what you experienced. I can understand your frustrations as I've had bad experiences with the teens in my area lately but I can say that what you experienced isn't typical of the behaviours displayed in schools. Behaviour management techniques are a high priority for teachers nowadays (at least it is here in the UK), and consequence systems of punishment are employed as an aid in both deterring and punishing bad behaviour. Teens will always push the boundaries and it's those areas which we adults can't monitor, where they really go for it. Even as a good little Dub teen I got up to all kinds of bad behaviour on the school bus and on the way to and from school. Most, if not all, of my behaviour was a subconcious cry for attention and help from my parents, which I didn't get. I was always happiest on the rarer occasions when one of parents was able to drive me to, or pick me up from, school. As a teacher, and as a mother, I personally wouldn't go down the home school route. I do feel that school has far more benefits than home as an educational environment particularly for gregarious children. A good balance between the two, in my opinion, would be having the child attending school and the parent doing the school run and supporting their extra-curricular activities.

For your daughter I'd recommend investigating all options where she may get one-to-one assistance to help with her learning disabilities, or an alternative method of schooling that supports her personal and emotional growth just as much as her academic growth - Montessori and Steiner schools are excellent for this. Maybe do a trial run of homeschooling for 2 or 3 days over the holiday period using it as opportunity to get her homework done and see how you both take to it...?

i mentioned that the thread was borne as a result of the general observations i made reading old posts here and discussing with many ex-jws and their lives have gradually turned out.

that thread alone was visited more than 2,980 times and graced with 204 contributions.

MrQuick, it's awfully wet here in Wales and the south west of England. Due to the bad weather there has been a nasty, fatal 27 vehicle collision in Somerset. Tragic.

(I personally don't feel that posting threads that display so much hostility towards XJWs in an XJW forum is conducive to the flow and normally welcoming atmosphere of the board, but hey, that's just my opinion.)

Can I be serious here for a minute..? Those who are lurking may well be struggling with suicidal thoughts and being discouraged from coming on here to have a rant about what is bothering them (regardless of that being bOrg-related or not) could be the difference between them acting on those thoughts or not. If someone is sufficiently depressed to be experiencing such a state of mind then they are vulnerable and deserve to be treated with love and respect, and welcomed by having their voices heard, rather than have it suggested that they turn away back to somewhere where they no longer have a voice.

If I hadn't have left when I did I very much doubt I'd have lived to see my 20th birthday. 2 of my friends from a neighbouring congregation both attempted suicide. Both were young women aged 17-20. Both were pioneers. 1 an elder's daughter and grandchild of an annointed, the other a MS's daughter. Despite having many so-called JW friends, not one of us felt we could confide in each other about how we were feeling. All of us suffered from the same feelings of inadequacy, guilt and shame brought on from our lifetimes of indoctrination from birth. None of us felt we were ever doing enough to warrant survival of the GT/Armargeddon. We all felt we'd be better off taking a direct route to the New System by ending our lifes in the current one. It's the collective "us versus the world" scenario. This fits in with Emile Durkheim's Theory of Egoistic Suicide where this is labelled as "excessive individualization". There have been many socio-psychological studies borne out of Durkheim's theory which corroborate the link between religious integration and suicide. You may or may not wish to read them, but they make for interesting reading and sure enough the same can be said for religious martyrdom, or the laying down of one's life for beliefs such as the JW blood doctrine.

As for freedom, well to use a JW-style analogy... would you rather be inprisioned in a jail with regular meals, a bed and a roof over your head; or, would you prefer to be free from such restrictions but homeless and living hand-to-mouth? Despite the hardships, most of us would choose the latter. Personal freedom is priceless.

Bonfire night, do you attend?

when i was a child i used to watch the fireworks from afar at my bedroom window.

all while hearing a healthy dose of how it was a sinster pagan filled ritual!...

but i secrectly always wanted to be there.. i'm happy to say i just attended my 2nd bonfire night in two years!

I'm embarassed to say I've never attended a proper bonfire night celebration. I've done sparklers out the back, and been to plenty of fireworks displays that weren't related to Nov 5th, but in all my 12 XJW years I've yet to attend one. In my defense, it doesn't help that it is usually either freezing cold, or so wet that many of the nearby council-run displays get postponed.

my grandkids were being mouthy and they learned a new phrase, "shut your mouth".

it could be directed to their parents, grandparents or anyone who said something they didn't like.

they are 2 and 4 years old and beautiful children.

Yes, I do believe it is wrong. Here it's illegal to slap an adult. In fact it's illegal to threaten to slap another adult, but you can legally do it to a tiny, defenceless child. Crazy. There are far more effective means of managing behaviour (see http://www.wikihow.com/Discipline-a-Child-Effectively-Without-Spanking)

Secret Santa 2011

last year i coordinated secret santa for jwn and am happy to do so again.

however i would like to get organised sooner rather than later since international postage means that santas need to be allocated by the end of november to ensure that presents can be despatched in good time for christmas.

Anyone have knowlege of Beta Thalassemia (decrease production of hemoglobin)

my daughter(jw) recently inform me she has beta thalassemia,.

If she is certain it was only passed on from her mother and that she only has the 1 defective gene, then she has Beta Thalassemia Minor (Beta Thalassemia Major involves 2 defective genes inherited from both parents). I would imagine this is the case as she already has 2 children and was previously unaware she had the condition, so one would expect it to have been detected beforehand given the more severe nature of the Major condition. The Minor condition is a form of anaemia. There's a 1 in 4 chance the baby may have inherited it as she will be a carrier of the defective gene.

Don't worry yourself about it as the Minor condition is very manageable with iron supplements and blood fractions in the event of blood loss during labour. Also, age is less of an issue in childbirth these days than it was only as little as 20 years ago. Women who are now considered 'older' mothers (late 30's onwards) are monitored more closely. Your daughter will probably be given iron tablets and have her blood tested every 2-4 weeks.

Yup. We had a family study about it after a WT article, or CO visit or summat (I forget which exactly) and my parents basically "reasoned" with my (pre-teen) sister and I that we should give up watching Neighbours.
