Yes, you can make that argument, and I predicted someone would - there are however several other differences:
• The child is no longer being carried inside the mother and therefore, the termination of the life is no longer a decison she can make (legally or morally i'd say)
• The child itself has reached a point whereby it can survive outside of the womb, which is quite a clear distinction from an embryo
• The child is now capable to begin learning and developing all those features I mentioned before - thoughts, feelings, awareness, relationships. At any point previous this is impossible
For point 1, you are assuming the very thing we are attempting to determine, are you not? The question, Flat, is how or whether the moral status changes at the moment of birth.
For point 2, a child arrives at a point of development where it can live outside the womb prior to its birth, suggesting that this is not a coherent point.
For point 3, are you suggesting that the ability to develop feelings and awareness are determinitive? Interesting. But what makes you think these abilities begin at the moment of birth? Newborns don't have any relationships that a 24 week fetus does not have.

the irish branch has had lots of drama over the years from john may in the 1980s to the recent removal of practically all the branch committee in the mid noughties to its being closed down quite recently.. i heard on the grapevine that two of the branch committee had actually come to physical blows and there was blood on the carpet.. also many many witnesses spoke of the totalitarian environment there.. does anyone have anything further to corroborate or add to this?.

Compare this with Hannah's vow that she would give a boy "to Yahweh for the whole of his life and no razor shall ever touch his head."
A careful reader will note the distinction.
As mentioned earlier, the mention of his daughter's virginity is likely pointless unless the idea that she would live as a virgin perpetually is being conveyed. The idea doesn't seem to be 'I'm going to die, but I have never had sex and never will'. The two just don't jibe.
Hmm. No. This was not mourning because she was never going to get laid, this was mourning because she would die childless. That was a pretty big deal 1,000 years BC in the region. Nobody gave a damn whether a chick was sexually fulfilled or not. What doesn't jibe is applying 21st century attitudes to 11th century BC realities.
It's extremely unlikely that any attempt to offer a human as an actual burnt sacrifice would have been tolerated in Israel at this time. It's highly doubtful that Jepthah could have pulled it off.

The problem with your example, Sulla, is that you compare clumps of cells with a fully grown human being. We can't say at what point the soul enters the picture. Only God knows if it is at conception or if it is later.
If you saw the whores I kill, you'd know that they don't have souls, either. Vacant eyes, wasted potential; really, just appetites parasitically feeding on the needs of men like me... Really, I'm doing them a favor, removing them from a hopeless situation. Best for everybody.
