Prelude to a disfellowshipping
by rory-ks ini was 25 years a congregation member; ten years an elder; all told, up to 18 years an appointed man; a decade or so as a full-time minister; assembly speaker, with the pinnacle giving the public discourse at a district convention.. .
i stopped being an active member of the congregation in november 2010, but it had been brewing for several years, with the customary gradual drifting away - all the necessary mental gymnastics as my spiritual views changed and doubts set in; quitting the theocratic ministry school; ceasing to answer; sitting quietly off to the side.
i think the straw that broke the camels back was when family worship inevitably became family worship.

It's official!
by lilbluekitty intonight i just got my certificate: i'm officially a member of my church and a baptist.
(i think of myself as just a general christian, but i like the laid-backishness of the baptists.
i definitely don't think one denomination is better than anyone else though, and my church is multi-cultural, so i'm not a hater of other races like some southern baptists).

So right, Sweet! Because you were in a cult, Christianity is wrong and X-JWs who become Christians are dumb. So simple, really.
Good for you, lilbluekitty. Pay no heed to that knucklehead.

How weird is this: when I was a window cleaner, I worked with a guy who was WWCOG and who had a last name that was almost the same as mine (like Anders/Anderson sort of thing). A JW and a WWCOG both working as window cleaners in the same town and with the same name! It's like we were the same person!

You would return to Jehovah's Witnesses if...
by Shawn10538 insomeone else suggested this so i just figured, ok let's do it.. 1. all present jws died and i became the sole leader of the entire religion.
2. then i would dissolve the religion and burn every last memory of it ever existing.
3. all books would be burned, all buildings destroyed.

I don't like "taking the lead"
by I Want to Believe insome men probably got off on the power/ego trip being a male jw gets you, but i never cared for it.
i'm an introvert, and was an especially awkward one at that haveing been reaised in social isolation, so it was about the strangest feeling in the world when as a newly-baptized teenager (back in the day) i started to pioneer.
i was about as green as you could get in every way but i was told i had to take the lead in the service meetings and the car group.

Recently, I told my wife that I'd rather be her partner than her head and she didn't seem to know how to take it.
Jesus! I Want To Believe, grow a pair.
And, I wonder why it is that the sisters could not get it through their little heads that, if all you have in your purse is a paper napkin, then you don't have anything with which to cover your head. Protestants! Sheesh.

Perversion of Baptismal Vows
by AlanF inan appendix in the book contains some 120 questions along with hundreds of scriptural "proof texts" that the proselyte is then expected to study.
12 jesus commanded his followers to baptize new disciples in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit.
the following quotation shows what the proselyte is expected to study just prior to baptism:.

Four sets of questions in twenety years. Amazing, since baptism has been going on since the beginning of the Christian experience. But we forget: all that was wrong.
Compare with: I baptize you in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Surely that was written down somewhere...

Drawings of NEW Watchtower World Headquarters in Warwick, New York
by Alfred inscroll down to last few pages to see the drawings.... http://www.townofwarwick.org/wt_con/_appendix%20m_swppp%20&%20drawings.pdf.
among the ammenities are a sand volley ball court, two tennis courts and a full basketball court.... there's also parking garages and picnic areas for visitors.... by the way, not sure exactly what this is but you'll notice a shaded area labelled "undergound chamber"... interesting.... (i wonder if moving out to the middle of nowhere was intended to keep bethelites from sneaking out at night and going to the liquor store... just saying).

Why am I so special?
by Wayward Son inif we are to accept that intelligence plays no part in wether or not we become duped into a cult, then the same rule must apply to those who wake up and make an exit.. so why am i so special?
i had basically the same experiences as my family and i am the only one out.
i don't claim to be some towering intelect, but even if i were it shouldn't matter.

It seems to me that the question is whether it is possible to be educated (about the things relevant to this decision) and honest and still be a JW.
I think that might be a sufficient question. I have not found any JW who both knows what he is talking about and is not a liar. Why would they be lying? A hundred reasons: they're invested, they have fmily, whatever. Sometimes they are lying to themselves, as well. But they are always lying: telling a thing they know to be untrue with the intent to deceive.
Or else they are stupid.
