i know this is a few months old.

but i think it's profound to people that still think like the wt trained them to think.

Seriously Sulla...do you think the history of Catholicism is OK? And do you think they have really changed that much when it is still based on the same premise that the Pope is the Holy father in rome and he still lives is the same city that was bought and paid for by corruption and prostitution. The catholics were the biggest pimps in Italy. Until one of the popes decided it wasn't a good look.

Since you seem to brush off all the things they did, maybe you could have just remained a JW and brushed of the things they did and do. Whats the difference?

I never had a problem with the fact that some JWs are are assholes. I don't expect that any institution is going to be free from tools, perverts, assholes, or criminals. Maybe you know one? US Congress? JWN? Local PTA? PETA?

It is beyond my comprehension that anybody could escape the Watchtower with its crazy doctrines, authoritarian leadership and sickening history of child abuse and join the Catholic church with its even crazier doctrines, infallible leader and a record of child rape and cover-up that makes the borg look clean by comparison.

Well, maybe work on your powers of comprehension? Just a thought.

I think the part I had trouble with in Catholicism, which is the religion I was raised in, was Father Garvey trying to fuck all us alter boys in the ass.

Notes from 2 day assembly - "Thought Control"

these notes were sent to me from a close friend who is biding his time to leave.. some of this we have read about already, the demo with the two brothers and the damage control they are doing over the ridiculous generation nonsense, but the thing about "thought control"tm i had not heard before...... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.

today at the 'sembly we were educated on the importance of, and i quote, "practicing thought control" .

Interesting. Couple observations for y'all.

In my (Catholic) parish, population ~ 750, we are preparing to receive 20 adults into full comunion. Compare that with these JW numbers and reflect on the fact that Catholics don't give a shit whether you convert or not. The most we might do is rip off a picture from the "Greatest Man" book and put it on a poster asking if you wanna convert.

Second, the demonstration is whack, but perhaps not whack like crack. By that I just mean the JWs have always been pretty up-front about how they change serious doctrines whenever they damn well feel like it. So, for me, the idea that the average JW really outta just get over it sounds like advice given -- and taken -- by them before. I guess that is a pretty odd stwar to be breaking backs, is all.

Lat, the idea that you force yourself to do right instead of wrong in order to become the sort of person who does right and not wrong is advice as old as Aristotle. You practice virtue, he said, and eventually you become virtuous.

But, to your comment wondering if all the smart kids here have a pope: it's tough to say, but I'll put my education, university, GRE scores, income, job status, and neighborhood up against the distribution on this board any day. In fact, I'll take the Catholics here as a group against the board distribution.

So, I'm thinking, yeah. Probably.

Well, maybe they do have something of a point. New teachings are new teachings: JWs who find themselves at odds with one have to admit that doctrinal change is simply the way the JWs work. Once you've told yourself that the JWs are the real church, then you probably shouldn't get worked up about one doctrinal change or another. That's how they roll.

If you've left JWs for Christ - will the end still come?

something i don't see supported much on jwn is the notion that the end of this system is indeed coming, even if later than wts has predicted over the years.. now for those that have left and become complete non-believers (in the bible) that is understandable.

you guys are welcome to comment of course, but i'm far more interested in some feedback from the people who have left jws and pursued a christian course.

are you still convinced that there will be a war of armaggedon or do you now interpret the scriptures a different way?.

The orthodox Christian viewpoint is that Christ will, indeed, return one day. It is in the Nicene Creed:

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father
He will return in glory to judge the living and the dead
And his kingdom will have no end

In the pithy liturgical language of the Catholic Church, the mystery of faith is summarized thus:

Mortem tuam annuntiamus, Domine, et tuam resurrectionem confitemur, donec venias
-- We proclaim your death, Lord, and confess your resurrection until you return

So, the idea of the end of all things is orthodox. The idea that, for example, the book of Revelation is speaking of events that will happen in the 20th or 21st century is a pretty late innovation, generally unsecured to the traditional approach to reading that work.

The JW-ist reading of the End Times statements variously recorded are, as is typical of the movement, mostly idiotic mis-readings of the text.
