Questions for you two, though -- including searcher, if you don't mind.

Are you still doing this one time each year -- a sort of Maundy Thursday activity? If so, it is because you accept the JW reasoning that communion is supposed to displace the Passover as an annual event?

How are you timing this? Its a weird two-part question, so let me explain. JWs celebrate on the wrong day -- in the very earliest hours of Nisan 14 instead of the earliest hours of Nisan 15 -- which do you select? Related to that, are you making a choice between the synoptic gospel's recording of the event (as a Nisan 15, passover meal) or with the gospel of John's remembering (as a Nisan 14, pre-Passover meal)?

I should mention that I agree with your view that Christians eat this meal.

A question for those that have been around this board for a long time

my wife and i stopped going to meetings in 1988 and da'd in 1989. for a few years we both actively participated in the xjw world, she quit doing that a long time ago, and has pretty much completely moved on.

the other night i told her about my planned blog (which will probably launch this weekend) it will mostly be about my writing, a lot of which is mostly about jw related issues.

she asked why i am still so drawn to this subject.

JW-ism wasn't a bad meal at a restaurant, it was the defining factor in my life since I was very young and remains the defining factor in relationships with my family and every single person I knew growing up. People like me simply can't be understood apart from the experience of the JWs; neither can we understand ourselves apart from it.

Can't they EVER answer a "normal" question?

ok, so, some jws stopped by my apartment today.

i knew two of the three that came to the door.

they were all very friendly, no mention was made of our long absence from the kingdom hall, even though hubby is sporting a full beard.. here's what i don't get, i asked after several of their family members and the responses were, "oh, my sister and her husband are now regular pioneers" and "he's a ministerial servant now.

It's a weird habit. For them, their activity level in the JWs is exactly the same thing as how they are doing, generally. For my folks, the question, "How's Sulla doing?" can only be answered with a sad, "Oh, he's not going to meetings," or something. Kids, job, education, all the rest of it doesn't matter and isn't mentioned.

Because, sooner, the Catholic Church has made significant changes in the way things are done specifically to protect children. For example, before you can volunteer for any parish role which interacts with children you have to go through a training program and background checks. Check out the VIRTUS program to get an idea of how it works and then ask yourself whether the JWs could ever do something similar. For that matter, it is a simple matter to find out what Benedict's statements about the scandal have been; ask whether the JWs could ever do anything similar.

I don't know anyone who says the bishops who protected the bad guys should get a pass. However, a distressingly large number of institutions seem to act in a similar way in similar circumstances. You don't seem to be quite so upset about the public school systems that have acted in very similar ways over the same period of time. That's not to excuse what wrong was done, but it is to suggest you have a sliding scale of outrage -- or have I missed your heartbroken outrage against public schools?

So, the Church seems to have put children at risk at in similar ways that other institutions have -- schools, Protestant churches, etc. Catholic churches are supposed to be better than that and, to a very large degree, they have become better. Moral preening isn't a substitute for clear thinking about the matter.

Girl scout cookies are demonized

okay so i think it might be the concussion making me go on this rant...not too sure.. the girl scouts started selling their cookies yesterday and for the first time in my life i will be ordering cookies.....i mean wtf is so wrong with ordering cookies from them?

i love the thin mint's and guess what?

you can only buy them from girl scouts!!!!!!.

I was at a small town in north Georgia last week, walking around. Sounded like a bunch of kids doing a protest outside a store -- weird, right? Anyway, turns out they were chanting, "Girl scout cookies FOR SALE!"

They're playing it straight. By which I mean they are presenting the stories as they are written. So, for example, Goliath isn't a metaphorical giant but a real tall dude. I'm cool with that, really.

Depressing Census Statistics on Religion

... depressing if you are the governing body that is.. the australian census figures from 2011 are available.

this is taken every 5 years, and i have been doing a comparison over the last 15 year period.

for 2001 and 2006 the number of jw's fell in australia, but this time it has risen, which jws may find encouraging.
