Good points Adamah, thanks. Seems religion is more about control than anything else. I've also recently read that Josephus' refrences to Jesus are forgeries, so outside the bible there really is no support for Jesus. I almost fell off my chair when I read how many mythological Gods had led the same life, death and resurection as Jesus, only thousands of years before Jesus.

oh dear I think I messed up and pushed too hard
by Frazzled UBM inreading all the posts on the wt study on higher education and careers really fired me up yesterday.
i have 2 undergraduate and 2 postgraduate degerees and a career as a result which allows me to provide well for my jw wife and son.
i was already unhappy because after 5 or 6 weeks of not going and appearing to be making progress she went back on sunday for the second sunday in a row and as usual was away all day.

Sorry to read what you're going through. I think your wife was bang out of line threatening to take your son away. I've spent 5 years going to court to get access to my son and take it from me she would need your written permission to take your son out of the country, without said permission it would be classed as kidnap. All the same, and this is just my opinion. If anyone, ever! threatend to take my son out of my life for good I'd go straight to a solicitor and I'd also consider if that was the kind of person I wanted to spend my life with, someone who found it acceptble for me to live under threat of loosing my child.

Thanks Witness my fury and Cofty. Yeah there's going to be a big hole for me now for a while. I've always drawn confort from the bible and now I know it's all based on myth, well it's disheartening to say the least.
I've been chatting with a few christians on Facebook and I've explained my reasining for no longer believing there's a God. All they do is go around in circles stating the uninverse is so complex id must have had a creator, but when I ask how much more complex god would have to be they just something like; the bible tells us so and so, it's very frustrating. On a brighter note, next time the JW's come knocking they're going to have a shock lol.

I’ve been pondering my beliefs for a while now and I’ve come across things that I just can’t accept. I was recently walking with a Christian who stated that the universe couldn’t just come from nothing. He said that the universe was so complex that it needed a designer, he also said something which I’ve heard before. He said that the human eye alone is so complex and perfect that it had to have had a creator/designer. I responded with: Well, if the universe is so complex that it needed a designer/creator and even the human eye needed the same. That neither could just be, then how much more complex than the human eye, and even the universe would God have too be? I mean if there is a God and he created something as complex as the universe, then how can he just come from nothing? If the universe is too complex to just be, then how much more complex would a creator of the universe have to be? And yet it’s perfectly acceptable for him to just come from nowhere? No sorry that’s a double standard.
I’ve also recently discovered that the story of Jesus is based on ancient myths that predate Jesus by thousands of years, and, that said stories are in turn based on how the accents viewed the sun. Something I read was that on the 22nd of December each years the sun is at it’s lowest point, and after 3 days it rises slightly north (the sun being raised on the third day) And that apparently the ancients called the sun the sun of God.
All this questions and discovering that the Bible is just based off of ancient mythology is pretty upsetting to me. I’ve always drawn comfort from the Bible, and in believing that there is a God and an afterlife. And to come to the realisation that it’s all untrue is horrible, but I can’t just ignore things simple because they go against what I believe, facts are facts and I’ll continue down this road of real truth. I’m pretty sure that I’m now an Atheist, I almost wish I was still ignorant of the facts but I can’t un-know something.

This is horrible news, so sad. I recently watched a series called drugs inc. There was an episode on drug cartels in Mexico, they pretty much run that country, killing anyone they like civilians included, even shooting dead police officers and American DEA agents on the street in broad daylight. Indeed Mexico seems like a terrible place to have to live.

Look, Up in the Air...It's a Bird, it's a Plane...No, It's a JW!!
by Cold Steel infor you ex-jehovahs witnesses...and even you current ones...have you ever contemplated your future existence in paradise earth, should you be fortunate enough to end up there?
during those raucous, fun moments at the kingdom hall when you were contemplating eternity and having the times of your lives...did you ever speculate about what life would be like?
for example, would you have to walk everywhere or would you be able to fly around like superman?

Cold Steel - Really?? A mormon criticizing JW's beliefs and practices. Pot calling the kettle black springs to mind, infact I'd go so far to say that mormon beliefs are even more wacky than JW's. If was in your shoes I'd find an ex mormon forum and learn about the darkside of the cult to which you belong. You're certainly in no postion to help anybody on this forum, blind leading the blind also springs to mind.

by crossquestions6995 inthis site is not a healthy forum for discussion or healing.
its an arena for jaded athiests to bash anything christian or god related.

SFPW - indded 8 million strong, but I wouldn't mind betting that the amount of ex JW's is twice maybe three times that number. 8 million all believing a truth that will no longer be a truth in 10 years time, and when said truth is changed you will all start believing another false teaching for x amount of time. All in unison believing false teaching, and at the same time criticizing people who have held the same basic beliefs for centuries, calling THEM counterfeit Christians. Oh the irony.
Speaking of unison, isn't it great how all the JW's worldwide received their copy of the NNWT at the same time...Oh wait they didn't did they. Only a select few. Backbitting? I know of plenty of backbitting, speculating and criticizing that went on over that issue alone. Sisters who had spent 25 years pioneering but had to stop due to poor health were not invited to the AGM while young 18 year olds atended. Yup nothing like unison.
criticizing? Why don't you try telling the elders, and for that matter your whole congregation that you're taking part in discussions with apostates, on apostate sites, and see if there's really no criticizing.

Could there really be something to the UFO phenomena? Amazing documentary
by yadda yadda 2 init's easy to just poo-poo the ufo thing, especially if you're naturally very skeptical after your jw experience as i am, but when you see documentary's like this it seems undeniable that some kind of inexplicable phenomenon is occuring.
.
could vehement deniars of the ufo phenomenon please suspend their criticisms until they've at least watched the whole documentary, to be fair to others who are more open-minded on this subject.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjismjxshpg.

There's a guy in the video by the name of Robert Dean at 22:26. I've seen this same guy in another video about UFO's, but on that video he started crying and saying he was abducted by aliens, and they showed him all sorts of magical things. He's a joke in my opinion. Search his name on youtube and I'm sure you'll come accross the video of him crying and saying he was abducted. I'm not saying UFO's are not real, who knows? It could even be us in x amount of years travelling back in time. I just don't know. But don't take anything Robert Dean says as serious.

I went from door to door AND to the convention site last week!
by Anony Mous inlast week i went from door to door, i actually got suggested to go to this territory.
my daughter was with me as well, she is used to going from door-to-door with her mother i suppose so i got her into a dress, got dressed up myself, told her about a simple introduction to use and how to politely go away from someone's door.
i got some really great responses!
