Thanks, Messenger! Great work.
well we now have another ray of new light that has flashed forth.
it is a new teaching regarding earthquakes.
for close to eighty-five years now the core believe of jehovahs witnesses has been the last days teaching that earthquakes have increased in intensity and frequency since 1914. no longer, now it seems it has gone the way of the generation that would not die who were alive in 1914. now we have the great new discovery that there were not more or stronger earthquakes since 1914, almost 40 years after experts and many good men were disfellowshipped for saying otherwise.

{to anyone that has seen this topic under "beliefs, doctrine, and practices", i apologize for the duplication, but i wanted to make sure it got the most exposure under the "main" thread here}:.
needed to be circumcised like the jewish christians already were.
only about the circumcision issue but also on whether the gentiles were.
blah blah blah...false comparison.
If you replace the word apostle with "Catholic Church" and made it about one of their doctrines, you could make the same comparison.
my wife and i attended our last meeting last night.
it wasn't so bad, since it was bookstudy and they threw a little party for us afterwards - we are moving to wa from pa next week.
we will never set foot in a kingdom hall again - feels great.
Way to go, dude.
i wanted to put this out to this community in general, although i know that there are no easy answers.. growing up a jw, it is difficult to not be somewhat socially retarded.
your social circle is prescribed, and widening out beyond the small group of the congregation is frowned on.
even 'excessive' association wiht neighboring congregations is frowned on.. the biggest challenge i have encountered as an ex-jw is this: how do you find quality people to befriend and associate with?.
Good ideas. Thanks.
There are glass blowing, and potter classes near where we live. That would be a great place to start. And, the local coffee bar has a poetry reading night.
Why aren't there personal ads for families?
"Attractive, non-religious hetero family of 4 looking for liberal family to party with. Enjoy hikes in the mountains, alternative music, and just hanging around..."

Neighbors are why we moved to a 3 acre desert ranch, away from the crazy subdivisions of Phoenix.

I have registered for a Drawing class at ASU. Part of my reason for signing up for the class was hoping to find some cool people.
We homeschool our kids, and I have been hanging out on some of the local homeschooling mail lists. But, homeschoolers in general are very, very conservative.
We are far from conservative.

We started getting into some non-specific spirituality type workshops and book groups (Unity church, "Conversation With God", "A Course in Miracles") and found some really nice people. A little New Agey-flaky, but nice people.
So...er...any tips on where to find intelligent, fun, educated people (who are typically areligious)?
while i have you on the phone, elder c and i want to come by on a shepherding visit with you and your family.
