I would see contacting your half-sibling as a way of righting a wrong. In order to keep family harmony your parents decided to leave the state and abandon the kid. I would think they have a lot of questions about why it happened to them and wondering who is out there. It would also be nice to find some non JW family that you could bond with. Someone you could talk to and not worry about all the JW garbage.

A Birthday Indiscretion?
by DT ini grew up as a jehovah's witness so i had to deal with all the issues of not celebrating holidays at school.
i took this pretty seriously and was pretty vocal every time something came up that violated my religious beliefs.. yet, it seems that there are always gray areas.. one day, my teacher announced that we would be making birthday cards for mcdonalds.
i don't remember which birthday it was except that it was a round number.

So after reading the actual evidence does anyone feel like we were being led down a path that was not reallly there? I went along thinking that it was a case where a white guy walked up on a black kid, started shit and then kiled him.
When I actually read about the case it did not seem the same.
- The only injuries on TM were the gun shot and skined knuckles. (Indicates that Z did not fight back until the gun shot)
- Zimmerman had a broken nose and injuries to the back of his head that are consistant with being slamed against the ground.
Forensics indicate that TM was on top of Z. John Good a witness also testified that he saw TM on top of Z
"Renowned forensics expert Vincent Di Maio may have been one of Zimmerman's strongest witnesses. He told the jury that the pattern of powder burns and other forensic evidence on Martin's body indicated that the teenager's sweatshirt was two to four inches away from his body at the time he was shot, meaning that Martin was leaning forward over Zimmerman when he was killed."
Based on Florida's Stand Your Ground law, it sound like simple self defense. Z might have been an idiot vigilante but in the end he is backed up by the law. This thread really should be about how if you dont like the law elect better state legislators. I think Stand Your Ground is silly, there should be a duty to retreat if possible. In this case if TM was on top of Z that would not have been possible.
Edit: So based on that information even if half of it is wrong....Do you think you could say beyond a reasonable doubt that it was not self defense?

The issue is not the jury, the issue is FL Law. Stand your ground is such a stupid principle. Rather than encouraging people to retreat from a dangerous situation before usinging deadly force; the law lets you stand your ground and shoot somone.
Proving beyond a reasonable doubt that zimmerman did not feel fear for his life is almost impossible. The only other witness was dead and you dont know how the situation escalated.

One less celebrity Scientologist
by Gopher init makes me very happy when a popular celebrity leaves a cult, because it could give others the courage to do it or start to think about leaving.. leah remini played carrie on "the king of queens", and has also been on "saved by the bell", "the talk" and had small parts in other shows.. http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/leah-remini-leaves-church-of-scientology-calls-it-corrupt-report-2013117.

Didnt the rapper Xzibit have a little twitter rage about how the JWs did not take care of his dad? I think it all depends on the people in the congregation. I know the congo. I was raised in was always good about helping the elderly and disabled. I know of other congos. that were terrible.
