Went to my first meeting today anonymously!

hi everyone.. jack and i decided we would go to his local kingdom hall this morning.

although i have no interest anymore in being a jw, i think its still nice to have regular bible discussions, etc, which can give you something spiritual to think about each week.

i love it and i think its damn good for you.. today, jack and i walked in, a little nervous, but were greeted and welcomed like friends.

Tim it is hard to get away from the thinking that the bible is the only place for morality. I think what really helps me is that what has pushed most modern countries forward was not the bible, it is secular writers. If we only looked to the bible then I could own a slave! How is that for moral? Not to mention its position on women and gays.

Overall there are many different places you can look to for a spiritual message.

So unless you want to own a slave, opress some women, and judge all fornicators, it might be healthier to find a new book.

i wanted to relate this experience i had on sunday while renewing ties with an old friend.

we argued about the meaning of daniel 4 and nebuchadnezzar's "tree dream".

my friend had insisted this dream told the reader the length of the gentile times.

I like this point from a jewish website. Oddly enough the jewish calendar is never 360 days long.

Why does an almighty god need to prove himself to mortal subjects???

lets just suspend belief for a moment and assume that we do belive in god.. he supposed to be almighty but he feels the need to prove to his mortal creations that he alone has the right to rule.

he decides to do this by allowing them to suffer unspeakably for centeries.

then he sends his son to earth, so that his son can suffer unspeakably and die too.. his son dying is supposed to atone for the creations sins, but instead of calling it quits there, god allows them to continue suffering.

N.Drew come hang out with me, I believe a higher power had a hand in some parts of creation(although I believe most parts of evolution.) What is obvious is that he has no active role in what happens now. Ancient peoples were like abandoned children and were forced to make up stories about why their dad does not care about them and why he left.

Like the kid who thinks 'My dad joined the CIA so he can’t talk to me now, but he will come back'.

Sorry to say it but our god abandoned us and we are left to live the best lives we can and enjoy what is around us.

please help me help a friend

i am not a jw nor have i ever been one, but i joined this forum because a close firend of mine is.. we met and became good friends in the senior year of high school, and i didn't know what it meant to be a jw at the time, all i knew was that they were another christian denomination so i let it slide.. .

it was only after sometime after graduation that i began to really take my faith seriousely, and in the process i decided to do some research on watchtower beliefs, and i was actually scared for her.

now i knew enough by now that if i tried to confornt her on this issue, that would be the last i heard of her so i tried as best i could to not "blaspheme".

court case against the wt in belgium.

you may recall that sometime ago i posted an information about it.. jacques lejeunes case, ex jw, who had won an appeal against the adverse second level judgment, will be heard for the last time in front of the mons court on october 18th.. this case is emblematic as it is the first time that the violation of human right against the wt will be heard.. jacques is determined to go to the european court of human rights if this last case will end up in favor of the wt.. whoever wants to join me in attending the trial in support of jacques is welcome.. believe that jacques deserves this support.. the case will be heard on october 18th at 2 p.m. and is planned to last 4 hours.

both jacques and the wt have already presented their memorandum which is available online on my website, but in french only.

Glander, it has been the secular writers who propelled us forward not the religious. Unless you want to follow pauls words on slavery. If you do then all of those escaped slaves should be in hell or not resurected. Lest we forget the gays, or straight people like me who have sex outside of marriage. We are also counter to those values.

Or take the first four commandments which are contrary to the 1st amendment of the US. The list goes on and on. Moral frameworks are out there and supported without the bible.
