first off, let me express that bill bowen would not know me from any stranger on the street.
i have never spoken with him, or have i ever corresponded with him.
the only information that i have of him is what i have read of him on this forum and on silentlambs.org.
I think it's very important for the lambs to not put all their survival and legal prospects in the hands of Silentlambs. To do so would be counter productive and possibly disastrous.
Silentlambs is a magnificient support group, letting others know they are not alone and that they in fact have legal recourse, supporters etc.
However, each lamb's situation is unique and requires personal legal counsel and personal therapy. Personal - individual.
Silentlambs seems to have a couple of purposes, one of which is making changes within the JW religious set up. While this may help future victims, it won't help the present ones.
These lambs have experienced a major loss of control in their lives, and to throw all their eggs in the Silentlambs lap is to repeat this loss of control. Should Silentlambs 'fall thru', it would further devastate the lambs, whereas if they take their cases into their own hands, justice will move forward.
My opinion, for what it's worth.

for those of you who grew up in 'the troof', after leaving, did you find it hard or uncomfortable in any way to celebrate holidays and bithdays since you had no ties to them whatsover?
if so, how did you deal with it?
santacruzchick - I didn't grow up in the troof, but did spend a decade submersed in it's bondage. I had a horrible time with celebrating anything. This past xmas was the first time I celebrated comfortably. It took ten years. I'm fine with holidays now.
Since I had kids, I went through the motions for their sake. (I'm glad for this, since during those ten years I was isolated from any support regarding this, and without my kids would probably have just avoided holidays period)
Whether you grew up in the troof or not, I think it really comes down to :

That being said, you have to listen your body and your 'nerves'. There were plenty of times I had to leave the scene so-to-speak to clear my head. I also kept a journal. It wasn't easy getting borg off the brain, but it was well worth it.

i've read with great interest the allegations that five members of the governing body are child molesters.
where is the proof, because if this is true it is the ultimate answer to the 'prayers' of every member of this site, one way or the other.

IMHO, there is already plenty of things moving forward on the legal and media fronts. Anyone who has had any dealings with courts, lawyers etc, knows that the system moves slowly. (that is not an insult to anyone affiliated with the courts or legal system btw) It's a huge chess game that must be played correctly. No one here has inherant rights to documentation, names of witnesses, people, etc of the allegations made.
I think it's also difficult for those on the sidelines to be patient regarding these things. The demand for proof of allegations and critisism of Silentlambs tactics on the board as of late pretty much proves that. When you are on the sidelines it's far too easy to say "On with it!" or "No, not that way!" It is a thousand times harder on the victims of abuse, who not only have to be patient, but must endure the mockery of many of those on the sidelines playing armchair lawyers.
It's a time for patience and for support of those going through it.

what constitues sexual harassment?
i have a couple of examples that happened to me.
i had a boss, male, who scratched his crotch all the time.
teenyuck - I never had to go through this kind of harrassment at work. That being said - I would've done the same thing as you if it had. I'm not the type to put up with the utter bs and would rather take my leave than do so.
If such a thing were to happen to me or someone I knew, I'd arrange to get it on camera. That Ross you spoke about is disgusting to say the very least. I was getting shivers just reading about it. Yuck!
Hindsight is always 20/20, but wouldn't it have been sweet to have sued him and called his 'jock itch' bluff? Yo! Ross! Here's your appointment with a court appointed doctor. Let's see what he/she has to say about your severe jock itch! Oh, and yer schedule is cleared, so you can go NOW!
I stood up to my grade 11 Physics teacher and got him fired. He was grading papers by throwing them on his stairs at home (each stair had a mark). There was plenty of proof to back this up as well as serious questions about his 'curriculum'. Being a shit disturber city girl a(as I was affectionately known) living in a rural area, it was left to me. The other students were too afraid to stand up, and each time I went to the office, they followed me. They just needed to see someone stand up to the 'system'. I wasn't going to see people's education thwarted because of a lame teacher. I stood up because it was wrong. I was 16 at the time and have only improved with age I'm proud of my catalyst personality.
There's nothing wrong with you protecting your career. You did what you could to empower the gals left behind and stood up to security AND Mr. Disgusting.

i was listening today to the jimmy young show on radio 2. apart from the fact that jimmy young wasn't present, the show followed it's usual pattern of righteous indignation against teenagers, asylum seekers, unmarried young mothers and the unemployed.. todays topic was sex education.. how old should children be before they know about sex?
or should i say, be told all about sex?.
i could't believe what i was hearing.
IMNSHO, those who are against sex education are uptight or scared to death of the topic. It's their way of closing their eyes to reality and hoping it all just turns out alright. In the meantime, they do a huge disservice to their children. Kids are smarter than these people care to admit.
I educated my kids from an early age. I didn't want them having any phobias about their bodies or sexuality (or anyone else's) It's worked.
