Do you like your name?
by Xena indesib77 started a thread about changing her name.
made me think about my name, i've always liked it.
i doubt i would ever want to change it....so would you ever want to change yours and if so, to what?.

I used to hate my name as a child, as no one could pronounce it. I would answer to anything remotely close.
As I got older, I really liked it because it was different and sounded old. Now that there is a famous actress with the same first name, it doesn't get mispronounced so much. And I prefer the long version, not the nickname.
My last name before marriage was very plain and went well with the unique first name, but my married name is really, really German, and the Welsh and German do NOT roll off the tongue easily. I had a choice to change my name back when I got divorced, but my lawyer said it would be better if I had the same last name as my child, so it wouldn't be confusing for her or her school, friends, etc., so now I have two names that are hard to pronounce.
Speaking of obscure bible names, I soooo wanted to name my daughter Jael when she was born, but my husband put his foot down. He was and is unmercifully made fun of for his first name, and didn't want any name that would cause our child distress from teasing. ("How about Hannah?" "NO! She'll be called Hannah Banana!") We named her Erin, and she is being teased at school by being called Aaron Carter (a teen pop singer). ("You made my name sound like a boy's name!" she angrily tells me. You can't win.)

I met Charlie when I was 24 and he was 58....we've been together 10 years now, making him officially twice as old as me this year. As someone mentioned before, I don't realize the age difference-- until we start mixing with his friends...I went to his 50th high school reunion last month, and that was a little weird, but they accepted me without batting an eyelash. My friends give me grief about the relationship, and think I am wasting the prime part of my life with him. It works for us, and I hope it continues this way for a long time.

by confusedjw in.

I went to middle school with Sabrina Lloyd (Sliders, Fatherhood, most recently Ed). She totally badmouths our hometown in interviews. "Boo hoo, everyone hated me, because I had a weird name like Sabrina." Hello--try having a name like Gwyneth--no one in America could pronounce it before Ms Paltrow was in the news every two seconds, and I was called Glenn, Quinn, Gwen, Glynn, Gwendolyn, Wynn, Gwinnitt, it was spelled Gywnyth, Gwenyth, Qwiyn, etc. (Every day I get mail for credit card solitications or car sale flyers is an adventure in spelling.) The reason everyone hated you was because you were mean!!!
I met the Maguire Sisters after a concert in 1996...they invited the whole audience to the Ramada Inn afterwards--so we went! It was so spur of the moment that I didn't have any paper, so I asked Front Desk if they had anything, and they gave me small pieces of paper that were made from cut up print-out sheets. I got all their autographs--Christine, Dorothy and Phyllis--Phyllis signed hers "Sincerely, Phyllis Maguire" How cute! But most amazingly, when I looked at the back of the sheet, the Front Desk had given me print-outs of the Maguire Sisters' room charges--can't get more authenticated than that!!
I met the three existing members of Duran Duran during a radio station promotion. Simon LeBon, while he is scribbling his name on my CD, sternly and emphatically told me that Napster was evil and they were stealing his money, and I was not to download music. This was July 2000, before the doo-doo really hit the fan about downloading. I went to Napster after he said that, out of curiosity, and couldn't figure out how it worked.
Brandy Johnson, gymnast, was my client for one job, when she was in a pinch.
Michael Andrew, from Swingerhead. Have the whole band's autographs, or what was his band in 1998-99. He is more solo now, I think.
Margo Timmins of Cowboy Junkies. I love her; she always signs autographs after a show, and I always wait in line.
I met some Bethel royalty in 1986, sat at the head table or something to eat a meal. Can't remember the name--Russell Kurzin? Sound right? The people who pulled strings to have me sit there made it seem like I was seated with the Queen of England. I was properly awestruck, for a 16 year old.
I would love to meet Chris Cornell. He is just plain beautiful.

Throwing mags away in public places
by gwyneth ini did a search and couldn't find another post on this subject, so i hope this hasn't been addressed too recently already.... i systematically throw away wtbts literature that i find in public places (restrooms, and most recently, eight, count 'em, eight mags at the train station that had about 20 chairs in it (four sets of the same magazines--someone had a good month!
) i rolled them up and deposited them into the trash, my father was shocked and said that people should be given the chance to read them.
i said i was saving people from exposure from a cult.

Do you think it's wrong to throw out magazines that I find in public places? Or should I let sleeping magazines lie?

Piercings Anyone?
by santacruzchick inout of curiosity, is anyone on this forum 'into' body piercings?
for years i'd wanted my eyebrow pierced, but i never got it done because of course it wouldn't be acceptable at the kingdom hall, and my mom certainly wouldn't be approving.
finally, my second year in college, around last halloween, i got my eyebrow done, and i love it.

Jehover - How many of you heard it pronounced that way?
by Elsewhere init seemed like every kh had at least one?
someone who pronounced jehovah as jehover.

I am from Massachusetts, and that's how it's pronounced up there. It's the exchanging of the "a" and "r" sounds, as mentioned before. My mom's name is Martha, and she always hated it when it was pronounced "Mah-ther." As in, "Mah-ther, go pahk the cah!"

Single(ish).
That's me, exactly...broke up with my significant other two years ago after eight years together, but he is still my best friend. Technically single--not looking too hard, but wouldn't turn down an opportunity to date someone else if one came up.

1. I remember where I was when Diana died because I was driving up to NC from FL to get ready for my sister's wedding, and it was broadcast over the news on the way up. I kept thinking it was just a car wreck, I didn't know it was fatal until after I arrived.
2. I had just gotten to work and logged onto to AOL, and it had a picture of the first tower in flames, with a very small caption that read that a commercial airplane had hit it...the very brief news article that appeared when you clicked on the pic made it sound like it was an accident, which is what I believed until I turned on the news on the TV we kept in the back, and not 20 minutes later, I saw the second plane hit live. Never forget it.

When you moved, did you feel obliged to stay in the same congregation?
by JH inhere in quebec, people move alot.
july 1st comes around, and every year about 10% of the population moves to a better apartment.
i'm no exception, and during my dub years i moved about 5 times in 8 years, always trying to find a better or cheaper place.

No. Our congregation shared a KH with a neighboring city, and there was a big problem with publishers who lived in one territory who were attending the meetings in the other congregation. Talks were given over and over about going to the congregation you were assigned to, because you lived in their territory, but no one ever listened and they kept on defecting.
