What does your baptism mean to you now?
by GiftsinMen ini was baptised on 1st sept 1990, 25years ago today.
it is still a date with deep meaning for me.
i never dedicated my life to serving any man or any organisation, this was my choice - as a grown adult - to serve my god through jesus christ.

Hi Nic and Xanthippe, I'm not sure how I've managed to offend you both. I respect everyone's personal decisions and choices religious or otherwise. I talked openly and honestly about my own baptism and asked about yours as a ritual most of us have been through. I'm no-ones judge. I suppose I have been surprised that so many have no belief having spent so much of their lives in a 'religion' they have no interest in yet still talk about it so much. I know I put my head above the parapet every time i post on here but expressing a difference of opinion is healthy. I never was any good at following a crowd and i don't really care if my life doesn't work for anyone else.....why should it?, it's my life and works for me. I don't look for or need anyone's approval and I have no right to even consider anyone else's life. No religion ever told me how to behave and still doesn't. -

Thanks Rebel, great name by the way! 'Gifts in Men' is the title of my book about the way i was badly treated by these so called 'gifts'. The audacity of them... actually had one of them remind me of the term when I told them I no longer held any respect for them, I sent him a copy highlighting what poisonous gifts he and they all proved to be. -

Hi Rebel and TTWSYF, My soul is calm and at peace. I moved through years ago and it was only because of this that i felt able to publish my story this year without any lingering pain or hurt. I didn't want to write in anger. I don't need or want to go anywhere, I am exactly where I need to be. My God has cared for me well. Thank you for your thoughts and concern

I was baptised on 1st Sept 1990, 25years ago today. It is still a date with deep meaning for me. I NEVER dedicated my life to serving any man or any organisation, this was my choice - as a grown adult - to serve my God through Jesus Christ. Despite suffering at the hands of the Borg and recognising them for what they are, a dangerous, money-grabbing, soul-less corporation, my dedication to my God remains. The Borg's abuses left me unable to read the bible for quite some years without being reminded of their attempts to destroy and control me but various loving scriptures stayed with me throughout the trauma and continued to reach my heart. I discarded the NWT early on to avoid the deep pain of their betrayal. I know some have been left with no belief in a God at all or only think of Him as a tortuous monster and I believe this alone identifies the Borg as the evil anti-christ. I had to lock away my heart and soul for safe-keeping whilst I allowed the burning rage to surface and run its course. I became quite a fan of the F-word (only that word would do) determined to get it out all of my system. I felt heard and understood on the deepest level and didn't worry about swearing, it was cathartic! My God knows me well and no idiot elders or bonkers organisation can ever change that. -

Books by Former Witnesses
by GiftsinMen ini am interested in reading books published by former jws which detail personal experiences of their time with the organisation.
i know of coc, exiting the jw cult, mamas club, 30yrs a wt slave, and told ones were written by otwo, punk and terry.
i'd like to spend some time making my way through them so titles, authors and links would be really useful.

My 67 Year Old Elder Brother Is Depressed Because The Younger Elders Are Taking Over
by minimus inhe was the school overseer but they relieved him of that to allow younger elders the privilege of the job.
now he is depressed and actually shed tears, believing his worth has diminished.

Mmm, heard the long time (25yrs +) school overseer in my old cong who is about the same age as your brother (might be the same person....Yorkshire UK) was also recently removed from his post and also from the rbc. I had no sympathy because he was at the forefront of intensively shunning those disfellowshipped. Literally would make a show of violently turning his head and those of his children away when he would pass by them. I wondered if the WT were reducing their responsibilities to try and minimise their involvement when the lawsuits arrive.

Since publishing my own book I feel I have been catapulted into a world I knew nothing about and need to catch-up. I have some serious decisions to make and reading these, I think, will help. -

My Book, 'Gifts in Men', by Patricia F.Sadio
by GiftsinMen inanother member on here announced the publication of my new book "gifts in men, a heavier responsibility" a couple of months ago and some of you asked who i was as to my authenticity and motives.
i have had an amazing reaction to my book even from jws who know me and my story but were still shocked at the details.
i was not raised a jw, not disfellowshipped nor disassociated and loved being a regular pioneer, serving in uk and ireland.

Thanks for taking the time to vouch for me pubsinger. It is sad to have be so cautious but I guess betrayal of trust does that to people. The negative can so outweigh the positive and I have received lots of positives on here too so thanks to everyone on this thread. -

Mmm! I guess this is why I have avoided social media for so long...lots of negative pre-judgements and difficulty with Truth. Sounds a bit too familiar. May not be a healthy place for me. I might stick to my writing.
