I liked them, and looking back, I think it was because it was the only meeting where there was a half hour of general silence instead of listening to the same thing over and over again. I finished them early (yes, I actually did do them), and then could let my mind wander.

who loved???? the written review
by nightwarrior inactually i was one of the sad ones that use to love to try and remember what i had learnt, but after some time the written review became tedious and oh so boring....... but i recvd a phone call today from my mam who informed me that the written review was being changed to an oral review .... oh the excitement.... you know, to save on the costs, plus that 'we' are progressing????
(my mam's words)... oh dear, i am so glad i am away form the lot of 'em.. did you ever notice how the hall attendance would diminish drastically when the w.r. was taking place????
maybe after all these years, someone, somewhere has taken the hint....... oh well i can be counted out anyway...... i hope that your replies are amusing?!.

HELP!!! Hubby turning home into 'Book Study'
by Skeptically Yours inmy husband, who's a ministerial servant, was approached by an elder and asked if he'd offer our home to become a 'book study' meeting place.. i'm a bit of a loner, and need lots of peace, quiet, privacy, and solitude; plus to boot you all know i'm living this sort of double life, you know, just doing the very minimum to remain a witness.. this is awful!!!!!!!!!!
i can't deal with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
take care!

Which Watchtower teachings lack logic?
by sleepy inwhich watchtower teachings lack logic?.
i know you're all tempted to say all of them, but some beliefs if the facts were true, would be logical.. which ones that are supposed to be a logical consequence of a true fact are in fact not logical whether the fact is true or not?.
for an example of logical belief based on untrue or unprovable fact , if god created adam and all humans came from him,(supposed fact) he could pass on defects in his genes to all humans and we could all be "imperfect".this we could call logical.. a watchtower belief that lacks logic is for example jw's who go through armageddon or die and are ressurected to earth are not perfect but still have another test to go through, yet those who die and that go to heaven are perfect straight away and require no further testing.. so which teachings are based on beliefs that are not true and which ones are just not logical?

When you left the Org............
by SillyPutty inwhat did you do with all those bound volumes, song books, bibles, study books and such?
mine are all packed away in the shed.

I gave them to my sister, who is still a JW. She should have enough evidence of a problem in the org, based on my experience. If she chooses to put the blinders on, it's not my problem. They've all deserted me and sided with my abusive father, so I'm not too worried about them right now. In a few years, when things in the org are worse, and their "prophecies" aren't coming true, maybe she'll be more willing to listen.

What DO You Know Now That You Didn't Before?

Well, when I was DF'd (for immorality, readily admitted and unapologetic), I was also going through the trauma of having my memories of sexual abuse return to me, and my father (an elder) admitting to it. I was angry that they were going to allow him to remain an elder (he stepped down anyway). But the real shocker came when my DF'd aunt who I hadn't heard from in 25 years found me. She told me about the UN thing, and I was amazed. That's when I really started looking into it, and everything I've learned so far has just pushed me farther and farther away from "the truth." I am finally free of the guilt and worry that I was feeling when I first left....worry that they were really right and I was going to die at Armageddon.

Thanks, Will. I didn't know that it had been KM, then KS, then back to KM. Before my time, and like most R&F JWs, I didn't do too much research into past books...found it boring.

This is just pedantic of me, but....
are Theocratic News items in KingdomMinistry
I remember it used to be called Kingdom Service and I was born in 1973, so it had to have been changed a few years after that, it I was old enough to remember the change. So have they gone back and changed all the references to KM instead of KS? -

WTS bans American football for "true"...
by ozziepost inin a magazine article, the wts has warned the r&f dubs that going to the football this new year is "pagan" and is engaging in a "false religious festival".. to support this teaching, the wts quotes from the encyclopedia britannica:"football games in the u.s. have all the external trappings of religious festivals .
one side representing evil and the other good, depending upon the viewpoint of the members of the audience.
leading the congregation are the priestesses (cheerleaders) .

Poverty and JW life style
by JH intell me, can a person on welfare earning (6000$ a year canadian) or ($4000 american) follow the watchtower life style.
can that person buy suits, ties, shirts, shoes, trench coats, books, suitcase, magazines, follow to assemblies out of town, put money in the contribution boxes, buy books, watchtowers, awakes, pay the rent, eat, etc... can this be a good reason not to go to the meetings, if the elders ask why you havn't been to the meetings?

Not if you're anything like my father. He turned down jobs because it would mean he would miss a meeting a week. We were bailed out countless times by my grandparents, to the tune of around $35,000 US. But heaven forbid my father would take the job that could support his family.
Apparently the scripture that says that he that doesn't provide for his family is worse than a faithless person didn't apply to him.
The elders would say, 'If you do God's will, he'll provide for you.' Yeah, right.
