Orangefatcat, she probably 'got off' on the "power" she felt by lording it over you guys. *rolls eyes*
Not once did anyone ever call me to see how I was. Not even when elders from 3 different congregations found out about my father (the elder) sexually abusing me. Not even when I told them I had been raped. But you can believe they called me to ask me about my time if I forgot to turn it in. Never asked how I was when they would call for the hours either. Yeah, 'by this all will know you are my disciples, by the love you show one another.' Gag.

Did the bookstudy overseer ever phone you for your "time" and nothing else?
by truthseeker inthis happened fairly recently.
my book study overseer who never calls if i am absent at the meeting, will call me with clockwork regularity at the beginning of the month and ask for my field service report.
has this ever happened to you?

Diary of a nobody
by New Worldly Translation inhi, i'm new to these forums so i thought i would share some experiences of when i was a jw.. i was born in 1976 into a staunch jw family.
my grandparents, parents, aunties, uncles, cousins etc etc were all jw's going back to the 1950's.
when i was a child my parents, like a lot of jw parents, didn't let me have worldly friends.

I married a 'worldly' man...
by chrissee inso i was not allowed to help with a demonstration on stage..... i have been fading for over 2 years now, but i was talking with a friend at work (non jw, of course) and i was telling her that i don't go to the kh any longer.
i told her of an incident that i think about on occasion, that sort of spurred my decision to leave amongst other things, too!
i was baptized by this time and going out in service regularly, although i wasn't officially on the school i would be someones househoulder for their parts.

My elder father would not allow me to be in my sister's wedding, because I was dating someone who was studying but not baptised yet. I had already bought the maid of honour's dress too. My sister screamed at me that I was ruining her wedding. I have such a loving family.

Jurassic Park .....T-Rex, and other fluffy stuff...
by ScoobySnax inwhen i was a kid, i remember sitting in class, waiting for the playground breaks so i could show the other kids my dinosaur collections.
i had real fossils, plastic t-rex's triceratops and diplodocuses.
this must have been 1977, and i was 7 years old.

I was always a big dinosaur nut. I was reading books about them as soon as I could read (age 4). I agree, the novels by Michael Crichton are WAY better than the films. Much more intense.

what we used to call "privileges"
by in a new york bethel minute inof all the privileges only brothers may have, doing mics seemed to be one of the most tedious.
it was definitely something you could graduate from... but why?
when i was the sound guy, it was always so hard to get brothers to do the mics.

There was a sister in the KH in Ohio that I grew up in who was basically the "accounts servant." That was when there was only one MS (my father) in the whole congregation. She did a really good job too. But even as a child, I remember the looks on the faces of the brothers as she would corner them for a signature or something. So condescending. She got relieved of duty when they finally got some more MS's in the congregation.

How do you answer when the witnesses call at your door?
by jeanniebeanz in.
to tell the truth, i am surprised that they call on me anymore since they know who i am.

I have moved 3 times since being DF'd, to 3 different countries. In those 4 years, I haven't been approached by a single JW. It's obvious they don't know where I am or that I'm DF'd. They just haven't been around. But there is a KH a few miles from where we just moved, so maybe they'll finally come to our door. I'll probably throw the fact that Jerusalem wasn't destroyed in 607 mess at them, if I can even be bothered to take the time.

Has anyone got anything positive from being a JW?
by diamondblue1974 in.
i hear and read alot about peoples experiences and some are pretty horrendous....does anyone actually feel they have benefited from being a jw at least in one way or another...me personally i feel i benefited from the ministry school as public speaking is part of my job and has definately improved career prospects?.

It makes me appreciate my current freedom a lot more. :) Honestly, it probably did keep me out of some trouble as a teen. I was one of those who had no choice but to do my best to toe the line (domineering elder father). Oh, and I too get the Biblical questions on quiz shows right. :D

Tudor, our nearly 3 year old Golden Retriever boy. He is Omega in the pack...lowest rung on the social ladder. He's also the most aggressive when it comes to protecting me. Bless.
Queenie, our 2 year old Boxer female. She is Alpha, and she doesn't let the boys forget it. She stole my heart from day 1 (she was 2 1/2 months old then), and she's my favourite.(Shhh! Don't tell the others.)
Casey, our nearly 7 year old Belgian Tervueren (Belgian Shepherd). We rescued him from a shelter in France. He looks huge and scary, but he's a wuss.
