Where is your sense of adventure?! I'd jump on a couch just for the sheer stupidity of it. It's fun! Hee-hee! Did that in Australia a few years back; jumped up and down on the hotel bed until I hit my head on the ceiling. Pffft.

Who did Satan hurt?
by Gill inso, who did satan ever hurt in the bible?.
apart from the killing of job's children, which jehovah 'allowed' him to do in his 'do your worst,' speech to satan, who did satan ever physically hurt?.
i've been trying to think of an occassion where he physically damaged anyone and can only come across jehovah, and instructions from jehovah to have people kill eachother and jehovah killing people.

One of my favourite quotes:
"An apology for the devil: it must be remembered that we have heard only one side of the case; God has written all the books." ~ Samuel Butler -

Restatement
by pratt1 in.
for those of you that have been dfed - how long did it take you to be reinstated, and how long did you continue to be active?.
i was reinstated after 5 months out and i continued to be active for about 5 years.. although i have to admit, i never felt the same about the dubs after i was reinstated, and should have quit the religion much earlier.

Couldn't be bothered to get reinstated. If I tried now, they wouldn't have me back.

I felt the same as you, FF. Such a sense of power and awe; so much beauty. When I was working with those animals, all my other cares, worries, and pain melted away, and I felt truly happy.

for the DF'd: did you confess or were you ratted out?
by kid-A inlooking back at the 10 or so cases of disfellowshipping i recall, i think only 1 was due to the orwellian borg spy system.
he was ratted out.. all the other cases were actually "confessions" by people that otherwise would have gotten away with it.
i am wondering is these percentages.

I was ratted out by my ex-husband, who was stalking me at the time. He followed me around, even online, and found out I had a boyfriend. (We didn't have "Scriptural" reasons for divorce; obviously emotional abuse and his idea of fun in the bedroom, overpowering me, were not enough for the elders.) He went to the elders about it, and they came to see me. I suppose I could have denied it all, but I've always been one to tell the truth when confronted.
So when they asked if I had a sexual relationship with my then-boyfriend (now-husband), I said yes. When asked if I was planning on continuing it, I said yes. So I got DF'd.
If I had it to do over again, and had time to think (They showed up unannounced.), I may have lied my way through it and spun a good story just so my sister and brother could still talk to me. But then, I'd eventually have gotten DF'd anyway, because it became common knowledge that I was living with my boyfriend, and then we got married. So still without "Scriptural" reasons for divorce with the possibility of remarriage, I would have been DF'd.
That was a lot of talk for what could have been a very simple answer.

Are children better off believing in some form of faith?
by FreedomFrog inas you know, my husband dave (aka almostatheist) is atheist.
my son came up to me last night and declared that he "doesn't" believe in any kind of higher power.
being eclectic pagan...this bothered me because i know for me, if i didn't have any kind of "faith", i'd be crushed.

He is still in his formative years, and won't really have a clue what he believes for a while now, in my opinion. I don't have kids of my own (stepkids who live with their mum), but I would try to be open about all kinds of beliefs, including atheism, and eventually he will discover what he feels on his own.
Many adults don't really know for sure what they believe anyway. At least in my experience, our beliefs change over time.
