Hi and welcome to the forum Chip.
Im glad you took the time to tell your story. Here is hoping it will help anyone reading here who is struggling to see the value of being true to oneself, as you were.
Your story has a happy ending!
just now finding this web site and have enjoyed reading the comments.
i've never written down my story and it could be a jerry springer episode but here goes.
i was raised as a jehovah's witness from as early as i can remember.

can someone tell me the scriptural basis (according to jw's) for shunning disassociated ones.
only asking because i don't remember (probably wasn't that interested) i'm sure the shunning in the scriptures was just applied to disfellowshipped.
i've only been out 3 years but i seem to have forgotten any scriptures or reasoning!
In my experience, if you use the word "shunning" a JW wont listen to any word after that one.
It takes longer to type but using a phrase such as "not talking to "or
not speaking to" will at least get JWs to read the rest of the sentence.
heres one on my arm.....i pull up my sleeve.....a chick will read it.....i pull down my sleeve.......and the chick is like why did you cover it up??????
duh thats all ya get......just 1 ๐๐๐๐๐๐.
I love looking at the ones you all have but I have none to share...too big of a chicken!
Good to see you posting Mad Puppy....hope that means youre feeling better.
years ago when i was "in" i loved the book study.
it was my favorite meeting by far.
mainly because it was a small group.
The book study was as close as the religion ever got to anything warm and sociable in a religion sanctioned way.
So they got rid of it.
Of course they did!
an interesting thought, let's take geoffrey jackson.. born: unfortunately.
age: who cares, his going to live for ever.. sex: i believe he has a young wife?
special-qualities:- ย very good at making speeches ( usually talking bullshit) always wears a tie, has own tailor made suit, and expensive apple watch.
For the same reason that the Kardashians are.
People are sheeple
with some exceptions.
Most of those exceptions find their way here and find like minded free thinking, sane people.
february 2016 study watchtower"prove yourself loyal to jehovah" - week of april 18th to 24th"15. if a brother treats us unfairly, how should we react?
15 in congregations of jehovahโs people today, it is very unlikely that we would be treated unjustly.
however, those taking the lead among us are imperfect men and could misinterpret our actions.
Well, well, well.
Buried under the strata layer of crap here, is the teensy admission that they know they have a problem...
The sheep are bombarding them with complaints against elders.
The quality of elders is going down as the standard has to be lowered just to find enough men to want the job.
Those two things have collided and "look Houston, we have a problem" so in typical JW style their first attempt to address it is to browbeat the sheep.
we saw it with raymond franz.
but do you think we could ever see one of the current gb members or future ones, make the same choice?.
to leave, and expose it..
I think it would take some outside pressure.
Fear of persecution maybe?
I dont think they could be tempted away...
I think they would have to be smoked out by fear of something.
That said, I dont think anything will happen - nobody cares enough about them to persecute them.
while doing some research, i stumbled upon a blog written by a former bethelite.
his name is john bechtel.
the blog is several years old.
This is a great find Sour Grapes. I am reading it now.
The following is a quote from his blog. He is talking about being young, in school and not standing up for the national anthem. He eloquently sums up how a JW feels:
The harassment in the lunchroom stopped from that day forward, however. There was, however, the sense of total alienation from the outside world; we knew we did not belong. And we knew that same sense of alienation was our badge of honor, proof positive of our righteousness.
taken from great crowd.. ----------------------------------------------------------------------.
rebekah called us at 6 am and it was.
very clear that she was traumatized by this event.
Hi Coded Logic,
What you say makes sense.
AND if the best indicator of the past is the future, it is unlikely that they did anything that showed compassion or kindness for their fellowman.
long story, short story.
grew up on a farm, went to bethel, married a sister and left bethel.
found ttatt after my cousin died refusing a blood transfusion.
Dang, you sure know how to condense a story!
Since I tend to ramble, I have to say, I admire that.
You will have to tell us more about you later but in the meantime, a warm welcome to you!
