  i was on he ex jw reddit page the other day and came across a posting from a woman who has become a successful author.

  she was raised a jw in new york and pioneered at one point in her life.

  Begin with the end in mind.

  Then work back to where you are now.

  I want to end up with the freedom to move laterally around in my family and social circle.

  I am also completely done with the JWs as having ANY truth other than the common things everyone else possesses.

  Ironically, that makes it easier to not feel so much.

  I have been doing an ultra slow fade and allowing the train to stop at the station at times.

  I determine the times. Strategically. Most bang for my buck times.

  Recently a family here had a house fire. I was the thrid or fourth one to arrive after it became known. I brought an envelope of cash. Not a stupendous amount but what I thought would help. As the house where they were temporarily staying filled with JWs I quietly moved my way (through hellos and hugs etc) out to my car to leave.

  One of the more mouthy of the corrupt 3 elders in our Hall was standing nearby. He said "you dont want to attend meetings but your always showing up to be "helpful".

  I ignored that and opened my car...

  then he pushed his luck to far and said " you think your some type of Robin Hood"

  to which I replied, "then does that would make you the sheriff of Nottingham"?

  And I drove off.

  Gotta love those moments when they just fall in your lap like that.

  My point is there is now one right way to do this. You determine your course and try your best not to make emotional decisions but strategic ones instead.

  Be kind. Be smart. Do it your way.

  Share your home remedies for congestion and earache...please?

  the extraordinarily high pollen count has finally done me in.

  i started with head congestion and coughing on friday and have steadily felt worse.

  i now have an earache and a heavy feeling in my chest.. yes, i do have a doctor's appointment for tomorrow, as i'm sure the advice would be!

  Put some Vicks vapor rub on your feet. Put on thick socks and go to bed.

  urghhh... what a disgusting study!7 a conflict of loyalties may arise when a close relative is disfellowshipped.

  for example, a sister named anne received a telephone call from her disfellowshipped mother.

  the mother wanted to visit anne because she felt pained by her isolation from the family.

  Cruelty of elders - not towards me personally but towards others I respect and admire- is what woke me up too.

  I especially like the way you put it when you said its the system that trains the elders not just the elders themselves.

  That says it much better than I had been able to frame the thought myself.

  Thank you for giving words to that for me and Im sure others.

  Why haven't you been to the meetings?

  some cong-member asked my wife this question (in the street, stopping her on her bicycle) in a rather police-like fashion.

  i wasn't there so i don't know her immediate reaction and response, but she got very upset afterwards and one day later this still occupies her mind.

  i believe it's an emotional mix of anger, sadness, shame and guilt.. she doesn't like this intrusion in her privacy from some jws and on the next occasion she will try to make this person respect her boundaries (or just ignore her).

  How can I capitalize on this (trying to wake her up just a little bit more)? And how can I make her feel less shame and guilt? There were several reasons she didn't go to some meetings recently. Either somebody in the family was sick or we had better and more fun things to do as a family (which I encourage of course).

  Well a couple thoughts come to mind...

  on the shame and guilt part of your question...

  tell her Jehovah understands why she hasnt made the meetings. He sees her heart and knows she is a good person.

  Tell her the amount of meetings a week is a man nade invention not a God made one. After all, a few years ago we wouldnt dream of skipping a book study mid week and now its ok! Same with a four day assembly - now its 3 and thats ok!

  Public talk was an hour - wouldnt dream of leaving half way through...now its a half hour and thats OK!

  The times and dates and lengths of meetings will always change. And that is all ok.

  The brothers at Bethel farm used to skip meetings when the orchards were ready for picking and that was GB sanctioned.

  No one talks much about that but there are many, many reasons why skipping meetings is perfectly ok and has zero to do with Jehovah.

  That chinese brother in prison for years was never at a meeting and he kept his own personal faith strong and was held up as a sterling example.

  If you sit the reason he didnt make the meetings aside, the point remains, one can be as spiritual as one desires even with years of "missed" meetings.

  That is the take away from his experience.

  As for the first part of your question, the more time she is away from the constant litany of indoctrination, the more her eyes will open naturally. Its like letting in fresh air, so to speak

  i saw she went under the handle of lovejahforever.....she said she is very smart and had cleaning jobs and was going in the ministry this morning.. when she told me she looked forward to beating me (she won the first game) she sid she was smart because she's a jehovah's witness.

  my response was we will see how smart she is.. what next?

  Mid Week Meeting. The book of Job....what does this teach me about Jehovah

  is it me or are you having a hard time commenting on what does this week's bible reading teach me about jehovah & what points from this week's bible study reading can i use in the field ministry ?

  i'm having a hard time commenting because what does job show about jehovah....well, # 1 he allowed job's suffering, but he didn't let satan take his life.

  # 2 what scripture could one use in the field ministry regarding the book of job...talking to a householder, see if you don't behave, god's gonna get you....or allow satan to get you.

  A question about WTBTS moles.

  with all the info from videos to boe letters, to the flock book ( this is huge when you learn ttatt!

  ), why can't we find out who the wtbts hired to aid in their rebranding efforts?

  we know all about the rc and monica applewhite for jeehoober's sake, so why in the hell can't we find out who is behind the rebranding?

  When you look at the Caleb and Sophia images and compare them to the Mormon version of kiddie videos put out by them (LDS) it seems that the same consulting firm was used.

  Maybe it would be easier to find out who the Mormons used and back track from there to the JWs?
