to briefly state this: we were hardcore jws, my siblings, my wife and her two sisters.
we have 18 nieces and nephews among us from late 20's to 55. only one is a card-carrying, practicing jw and he's had his problems.. what's hilarious, is that most of the 18 in the next generation would still identify themselves as jws to the rest of the family, but all are leading double lives extraordinaire, doing exactly what they want to do.
most would be honest with me and have been.
The religion is encouraging this by its own actions. Harshly penalizing people for things that should be handled in families privately, controlling (or attempting to) all aspects of life, only encourages double lives.
The comment above about the religion rotting from the inside out couldnt be more true.
watching the news from the past few nights, i have come to the conclusion that the only convention that's crazier and more out of touch with reality than a jw convention is a us political convention.the strange-o show that is going on right now in cleveland, oh makes watching a bunker video look more sober and realistic by comparison.i have made the effort to do my civic duties as a voter, but these conventions require a devotion that is fanatical..

I was watching PBS coverage of the convention the other night and my thought was how very similar they are rather than how different.
A bunch of people gathered togeher in a building repeating an ideology and using the energy that all that generates to convince themselves of it.
All seems very similar to me.

I agree that there are stereotypes and injustices that need addressed.
However, coming up with buzz words and phrases such as "Black lives matter" and "Blue lives matter" does more to polarize than it does to fix.
my wife and i, both out of the religion for nearly twenty years, live in the same border town as our 44 year old only son.
we have scant contact with our numerous jw relatives, although a handful of clever "double life" nieces and nephews socialize with our son.. we care for our six year old grandson weekdays while our single parent son makes a living.
we've been infinitely better grandparents than we were parents, primarily because of our exit from a high control cult, but also because of life experience.
I love the balance you and your wife as grandparents are providing to your grandson.
Although there are a host of reasons to complain about a JW upbringing, for purposes of simplicity we can all agree that it is highly unbalanced and produces young adults ill equipped for the world.
Thanks to your son and yourselves, your grandson is being spared that. I think that is wonderful.

As humans with functional sexual organs it's practically impossible to not think about sex it's how we are built. The Borg are basically setting the sheep up to fail.
And do people really go to the elders about their sexual fantasies? Which is what the Watchtower is telling them to do?

as our fade continues, the wife and i have decided to take up "the forbidden practice of.......yoga"!!!!😱.
i was quite skeptical at first but so far it has really de-stressed our life in quite a spectacular way!!
not to mention the physical benefits.. anyone else try yoga or a similar discipline?

she turned one today, and 36 earlier this week.
we planned a big party, big for two people that have never thrown a party before.
we rented a church fellowship hall because 1. it was nice and big and affordable and 2. it was kind of awesome to throw a party in a place we would have never ventured in our previous life.
