  Explaining JW Beleifs To Non JW's

  my new girlfriend asked me over dinner last night what jw's believe.

  as i sat there explaining it i realized how ridiculous it sounds and was slightly embarrassed that i used to believe this crap for 31 years.. try and read this and imagine hearing it for the first time.... me: well... jw believe that god's name is jehovah and that his son is jesus christ.

  they believe that jesus died on a stake and not a cross and that in the year 1914 he personally chosen the jw's as his one true religion.

  The Rebel, I always click on every thread you start because you open up new pathways in my brain.

  You have a unique way of looking at life that is your gift. I am so glad we get to experience your perspective here through words.

  There are many people who write from intellect and there are many books written by such people also. If a person wants to glut themselves with information the internet is a banquet table for sure.

  As for me, I like the block party feel to this forum. I like the "average" posters who are sharing from their heart.

  To share from your heart takes guts and courage. I think of all that wellspring of thought and feeling that has been suppressed so long by the Org as bubbling to the surface here in peoples posts.

  I find bits of myself in other peoples words and thoughts and it helps with healing which is really why Im here.

  just wanted to update you guys of the amazing couple of weeks i've had in recovering from the cult.. i was attending the meetings still just so i could see my daughter in the kingdom hall and have her sit we me half the time.

  i had no intention of ever becoming a jw again but was hoping to be re-instated and just not turn up ever again so i could at least see my family.

  but then an elder said something to me that changed all that.

  I had to laugh over the part where they were concerned if you should up at the convention on Sunday - you might try to talk to witnesses!

  OH my!

  On some level they know that conversation with an honest person could wreak havoc in their fake family.

  Question for science geeks

  do any of you know anything about prescription medications and their reactions?

  the doctors cannot explain why but i react to everything they prescribe to the point that now all my doctors are attempting neutral remedies before medication.

  tomorrow i am having surgery to drill a hole in my head to put in a titanium rod and we are doing local instead of general simply because it lessens the amount of needed drugs.

  Glad you are in otherwise good health (excellent really for 65) rebelfighter.

  You are a medical mystery!

  I would have no idea what drugs I am allergic to because the only ones I have ever had were aspirin, benadryl and the random antibiotic here and there over the years.

  There were a few illicit ones in my youth but as a good little witness girl I havent talked about that much

  Hows your liver? The problem may not be with the medication or with you as a whole.

  The problem may be with the way your body processes the ingredients in the medication.

  never a jw, but have had bible studies and attended several meetings and even a convention once.

  i've always been agnostic with leanings toward the belief in some deity or other, although the more i learned from the jw's, the more i've learned to doubt, not just their teachings, but the fundamental teachings of all religions.

  Welcome to the board. It is obvious you have a curious seeking mind.

  That is a trait that is sorely missing in todays world amongst many so good for you.

  I really like what Wayward said above, that was my thought too.

  Your friend sounds like she is very influenced by the power of suggestion. The bunker video at the summer convention was a masterpiece of psychological suggestion. Inferring that the world is about to turn on JWs who will be bravely hiding in basements ready to face the troops down when they storm the door.

  Some JWs laughed or snickered and just rolled on.

  Most felt a stirring of uneasiness (after all, it could happen, right?) and resolved to do more in meeting attendance and contributing to the world wide work.

  A small amount of JWs have been fixating on the video. They think it is a subtle message within a message that only the wisest will see now and others will see later.

  Your friend sounds like she might be in the latter group.

  The Org was aiming its message at the middle group. They, like most manipulative groups, have little to no concern about the first or the last group - their target audience was the middle and the rest is collateral damage.

  Your friend sounds like a good and gentle soul and no doubt she resonates easily to the "twanging of her emotional strings" so to speak. This video would have been fairly powerful in her mind especially if she is highly visual in her learning style.

  You say she mentioned a couple of years ago that the Great Trib. might have already started....this is very common among JWs who are very sincere and slightly eccentric. To think they are the first to pick up the scent when the winds of change might be blowing. The Orgs record is one of them getting letters by the thousands stating what your friend thinks.

  If it is popular enough, sometimes the Governing Body will put it in print as their own unique revelation. Anyone who thought it ahead of that time is considered "rushing ahead" and anyone who doesnt swallow it in its entirety once in makes print is considered "not accepting new light" and not keeping up with the chariot of God.

  See how that works? The Governing Body and only they, keep a firm grip on the flow of information.
