Wasnt there some statement about 4 years ago that "sisters" should only consider ministerial servants and elders as marriage material?
That is classic cult behavoir. Control the males by controlling access to the females.
i know someone who's family is very spiritual and says that her brother only pioneers and does not want to become an elder for various reasons, probably not wanting to deal with people's problems, and also the tremendous workload they put on them.
is this considered refusing advancement by god, or just choosing your own way?
he has not been "tapped" to become one, but he merely hasn't strived to become one..

i have a couple of family members who not so much went back but never were associated and joined.
one is a cousin, he is about 60 now.
maybe a bit older.
You know what blownaway? From far away (me) I see a certain perspective on your Aunts behavior.
Your (dead) uncle is now the husband she always wanted. She gets to paint the marriage as successful after the fact. She is "holding the farm for him and being devout with the JWs, what a heroine in that small little local circle - or maybe just in her own mind?
so, jehovah's witnesses and many other biblical literalists think that the "whole world" was flooded during noahs day.. they take the "accounts" in genesis literally.
so that means that areas as far away as australia, russia, argentina, greenland, antarctica were all visited by noah and his family to gather animals and preach before it happened right??
they then took everything back to the middle east to board the ark...uh huh.... yet, the same expression in the bible for the "whole world" is also used in the account about the "worldwide famine" in josephs day!
I really liked Jordan Petersons lecture on this topic.
i read and replied to a post today about weather there were any benefits in been a jw.
as much as i now dislike the religion, i had to agree that there was an up side, due to their strong stance on alcohol, gambling, smoking, and sexual practice.
we would all agree that these can be terrible vices that can get out of control.. i was at one point a true believer, who believed in these rules, and to a point have benefited from abstaining from these practices.
I think mileage may vary on this question.
An older fader would perhaps not be as tempted by the allures of society.
They might also find it harder to merge their longstanding social and lifestyle habits as a JW with a brand new life though. Making friends might be a challenge.
A younger fader might find a lot of things they have to face in a world without JW restrictions and will have to figure that out. They may have an easier time "starting over" friendship and even location wise though.
i'm a best man to a fader like myself and just now i have found out that 1/3 of guests are jws.
.
would love some ideas on things to say in the speech to not cause offense to them.. thx in advance.. paul.
Dont use the word luck! They dont like that word at all.
Oh, and let me just say.....good luck with your speech.
okay, they cheapened the product by getting rid of hardcover books.
they reduced printing of mags.
they drastically reduced the number of pieces of printed paper that members would "place" in people's hands in various ways, the biggest one being that they put them on a cart and don't encourage people to take them.they cut d.o.
I think they will start a university. Use the "wicked" world approach and the need to educate young people in a proper manner.
Their version of a Brigham Young Uni.
Then they can get parents to pay, kids to get 4 jobs and work their way through and most importantly, if they are accredited they can dip in to scholarships, grants and loan programs from the government and multiple private agencies.
Since this is a thread about school shootings and not gun control I was thinking outside the "gun" box for a minute.
The what might be the weapon but the "why" does not get looked at much. Whatever is wrong inside these shooters is wrong before they pick up the gun. Trying to address that would be time well spent by us all.
I dont claim to have an answer. I suspect that kids are growing up today in a society that does not address some basic need.
What need?
I dont know. I do wonder about the lack of heros in todays world. No clear cut good guys or bad guys everyones efforts picked apart on social media. Does that play some role?
Or maybe the institutional upbringing of children? Most kids go in to daycare just after birth and then the school system. All institutional upbringing. Does this foster some elemental detachment we are unaware of?
Dont claim to have the answers, just a lot of questions like everyone else.
well, as you all know, my wife (unstuck) and i are not df or da.. we just stopped attending several years back after my "apostate" online activity was found by a nosey employee of ours while she was working in our office (long story if anyone wants to know - it would have to be another thread).
we never met with any elders - no congregation judicial activity occurred (as we would never consent to do so anyway).
so our policy has been to be the same kind, loving, normal people we have always been.
Sorry about the treatment Stuck.
I cannot fathom how enormously threatening we faders are to the Org.
They thought they had the bases covered with the hateful disfellowshipping policy and then some of us come along and dont land in the coverage zone!
I hope it helps to know that you are not alone.
just wanted to say a quick hello.
this was a pic yesterday on nurses week at henry ford with one of izabella’s primaries.
the first pic was at her nicu graduation.
Shes a beauty and thank you for sharing the pictures!
many common phrases i've used all my life have been made obsolete by technology advancements.
"roll up the window" (car windows don't roll up any longer with a hand crank.).
"hold your horses.
Handle with kid gloves
(Gloves used to be made of young goat - very soft leather)
A stitch in time saves nine
(Does anyone sew/repair clothing still?)
Put that on the back burner
(another microwave casualty, who uses all the burners on a stove now?)
Hot off the press
(Digital printing and instant communication make this one self explanatory)
