To me, the "Org" has gotten less interesting due to NO new content whatsoever.
They are not doing anything good. They are not doing anything bad.....they are just blah.

after further review and thought, i really don't see how removing a monument or statue that may be truly offensive to a large group of people is in some way rewriting history.. i think of germany or other parts of europe.
you don't see swastikas on buildings or statues of hitler or mussolini or other upper level generals in public.
would it be good for a person (think jewish) to drive around a city and see hitler in a public park, even though it is "historical?
It's interesting as PeteZ pointed out, the connection between the time that has passed since the perception of wrongdoing and the reinstitution of the statues for historical reasons.
The pyramids were built on the backs of slaves. Shall they be razed to the ground?
I read an interesting article about the statues controversy a while back and I cannot find the article now. In it, the writer made two points.
One was the number of tourism dollars that are negatively impacted (the author used the city of New Orleans as an example) and the volume of people who like to stroll browse and read what is on the statues - which are works of art regardless of if you like who it is depicting. The article pointed out that in countries where art and statues were removed for sensitivity reasons - tourism dropped - the cities just weren't viewed as being steeped in culture and visually as interesting. In most cases, the statues were restored.
Two was an in-depth look at what Scandanavian countries faced when the split over Viking history was a hot issue. "Viking Day" or not? Museums or not, statues or not? The end decision was to keep the Viking heritage simply as history. NOT as a venerated part of history but merely as history.
And isnt that the point? The BLM movement should be very quick to want to teach people to do better in the future. Doing better means knowing better. The way society collectively learns to do better is called history. To sanitize the history associated with the Civil War is a two-edged sword. Yes, you remove painful reminders, but you also remove the reference points that made it living and real to future generations to learn from.
White children will not have any concept of what the big deal is. Black children will hear "words" but they won't have any frame of reference to aid them to internalize the sacrifice that was involved. For all of these children of the future- its just words at that point.
Once people are acting on principle again and not just acting out using raw emotion as fuel, once they are using their heads......
I guess that is when Christopher Columbus statue in Boston can have its head put back on again.
as the altleftist idiots burn books, ban speech and now ban movies that does not conform to their twisted thinking never forget, those that start by burning books end up burning bodies.

Point well taken Quetzal.
You are right. Perhaps the best we can do is contain our emotions to our own posts and not label others.
As for me, I really need to apply my inner "Switzerland" these days. Everywhere I look, the amount of overreacting and the pressing ahead without thought or aim of using this occasion to really accomplish anything is stupefying.
There is an opportunity here but its being stampeded over by competing agendas.
Funerals are symbols too - of closure and healing, usually. My hope was after the final Floyd funeral we would see a beginning of a collective sitting down at the table and the beginning of constructive talk.
Not so far. More statues pulled down, more acting out instead of thinking in.
So whats next?
In the U.S. the 4th of July is approaching which is a holiday celebrated with red, white and blue food, drinking and fire crackers!
(this is said tongue in cheek folks!)
WIll that wave of patriotism replace the current wave of disorganized anarchy?

You're running a bit behind on current events arent you Hisclarkness?
The over-dramatization has already occurred and we have all been watching it for the last two weeks.
Let's be plain spoken shall we?
Why do you suppose they plucked that one movie out of their line up to remove?
HBO? The same one that ran Game of Thrones?
Lots of racist overtones and articles written aboutthat show (that they wouldnt have dreamed of removing)
here's one:
This much should have been obvious from way back when the very first episode aired in 2011. It was clear then that showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss envisioned their world as a white one........................
GoT’s co-creators, Benioff and Weiss, announced that their next project would be Confederate, an alternative history drama, in which the south won the American civil war and slavery never ended. The announcement was met with near-instantaneous social-media anger from activists including #OscarsSoWhite creator April Reign, Ta-Nehisi Coates and Roxane Gay, who described it as “slavery fan fiction”. The project has since been delayed indefinitely.
The backlash might not have been so severe, however, if Game of Thrones wasn’t already perceived to have a problem with diversity.

The article sways back and forth trying to make points on both sides and ends up making no points really but it does give those with eyes some insight into how this all plays out ultimately.
The knee jerk "Symbolism" of removing Gone With the Wind (who most people in their 20s and under would only watch for school credit anyhow) was just that....symbolism.
The mightly HBO has but one ruler - here's how you spell its name - $$.
They can pick GWTW (which isn't making them any money anyhow) and yank it and promise to write a contextual forward.
Sensitive much!
And yet clever to pay lip service while doing absolutely nothing of any meaning.
Along with us not "over dramatizing" (still scratching my head over the faint whiff of the condescension in that statement)
How about we allow each person on this thread to speak clearly and address the points as they see them without any of us assigning emotion to them.
"Lets" try that, shall we?

Is Dancing With Wolves next?
Some weren't happy with the portrayal of Native Americans..
How about movies that sexualize women? Should they all be sorted through? By whom?
Hattie McDaniel was the first black actress to win an Acadamy award in Gone With the Wind.
Sad that she is being dishonored.
his murder was a crime and justice must be done, but it's sobering to learn more about the man who is being lionised by millions.
thanks as always to the courageous candace owens.. ....

It sickens me that the world is this stupid that they can't see who the real victim is. It's his daughter. That kid having a father who was in prison most of her life, the drugs that was in that household and a mother who didn't leave but raised that their daughter into believing that this is a normal way of life. Why turn a thug into a hero when the real victim was his daughter.
I understand what your saying about the daughter being a victim. She may never have broken free of the poor example of a father she had, who knows?
I would say she is no longer a victim now. Overnight she has gone from a poor role model dad to being a rich little girl courtesy of the city of Minneapolis. .
There will be funds for her, scholarships, not to mention a huge lawsuit paid out.
for the first time in my life, i have to admit that the world is rapidly deteriorating.
first i saw a decline in democracy worldwide.
elections were a tough battle every time, unfair too.

@Gorbachov I don't get it
here in Central Europe I feel as safe as never before, and "The End"TM is as far off as never before
there have been so many 'critical times' before and this is hardly the worst
I only wonder, why the praching activity has allowed to be dimmed out like this, no more urgency at all
I didn't realize the preaching work was dimming. I thought they were just doing the quarantine stuff like everybody else.
If it is indeed dimming, could it be because it has been failing for a while and this is an excellent "excuse" to scale back and make it look like it was all part of the non-existant plan?
do you think it’s a good idea?.
what he said ^^^^
Eloquently put truth_b_known
i hear this from the leftist idiots all the time.
if someone breaks into your home 6 bullets are enough.
well if its a one of i would argue that i still my need more round for even just one person.
I am surprised that no one is linking the world wide rioting to the being cooped up in homes for the last 3 months.
Its not really ALL about a black man being killed by police or we would have seen it before now.
People are saying "the time has come". No.
Whether the issue is valid or not its "time" is here due to the confluence of circumstances the virus brought about.
Out of work = loss of social identity
Fear of loss of income/disease/ lack of routine = restlessness/heightened anxiety
Police do something gravely injurious caught on camera = match to dry tinder.
People out marching re-establish a social identity at warp speed. It "feels" right to be gathering together and the "fighting back" replaces the sense of powerlessness people felt with the virus with an immediate and potent sense of power.
