GB Not Providing Food-Helpers Write Articles
by TakeOffTheCrown inwhy does the governing body depend on the helpers to write watchtower articles and the information in other publications?
why does the governing body not write these articles themselves?
they depend on the helpers to compose/write this information.

I have a deep suspicion that no one is writing any new articles.
I think they are copy/pasting from existing articles and books with fresh intro sentences here and there.
The material doesnt have a fresh feel to it at all.

So I clicked on the Mormon come-on advertisement to "Come chat about Jesus Christ"
by oppostate inso i clicked on the mormon come-on advertisement on the top, the right side and the bottom of the jwd page that invited me to "come chat about jesus christ".. i started a chat with brook and taiza and asked them why the subtitle of the book of mormon changed from "another gospel of jesus christ" to "another testament of jesus christ".. brooke told me it hadn't so i googled it and told them there's plenty of websites that refer to it that way and i had a very old copy with that subtitle on it.. so taiza says it's probably a copy by some break off group and not from them.. i told her the inside said from the "lds".
so they left the chat.. so i figured maybe there's a technical glitch and i shouldn't assume they just dropped me.. so i log on again and give my last name instead of my first name this time.. and hellen and catherine log into the channel.. i ask them again about the title change and they drop off the chat.. so i figured twice is very unlikely that they had a glitch, and i'm pretty sure they dropped me because they didn't like my question.. one more time, i'll give them one more try.. so i log on again, with my middle name this time.. brooke and jayne log on.. i type that i'd been chatting previously with brooke.. she types back that she's a different brooke.. so jayne starts asking if i read the book of mormon.. i say yes and i have a question about it.. so i ask my question about the "another gospel" to 'another testament" change.. she says that she does not recall ever hearing about that and what do i like about the book of mormon.. i then ask her about the "gospel" paul wrote about in corinthians.. she says it's the same as in the book of mormon.. i ask back that if the gospel is the "same" why call it another???
and i quote her galatians 1:8.. she says that it does not apply to the book of mormon since it is not different from the bible so therefore, it is not another good news.. but that is the subtitle of the book isn't it.. so she sends me a link to a two minute video by the lds telling of the finding of the tablets and the transcription from reformed egyptian to english by joseph smith.. i started questioning whether reformed egyptian was a real language.

I dont think I would try a chat because Im not quick enough on my feet cerebrally speaking
Sounds like you did a great job though. I guess one way you can tell is when they drop the chat. That reminds me of the brothers at Bethel that hang up the phone when they feel uncomfortable enough.

Are You Raising An Introvert?
by darth frosty inits not easy being an introvert in an extrovert worldespecially when youre a kid.
it is even more difficult if none of the adults in the kids life recognize that the child is an introvert.
this doesnt happen only when the childs parents are extroverts, but also with introverted parents who have never understood their own introverted nature.. .

Good point.
I was trying to think if an answer they might give to the statement in the thread title.
I wonder if they would say that the basics are in place. No trinity, no burning hell, immortality of the soul, definition of earthly class/144,000 all in place
So they might say that all they have to do is monitor.
In that case, how is the light growing brighter?
Why do the flock have to attend each and every meeting?
Why cant they just "maintain" too?

Are the Governing Body Members Mentally Ill?
by Oubliette indata-dog: i believe that many of them would actually be considered mentally ill, if they were ever tested.. .
great question and intriguing hypothesis.
lets take an armchair psychologists view and see what we shall see.

I was thinking about another angle that I guess would eventually combine with the religious one. The angle is that of "star power". We have all seen what happens to a lot of movie stars when they get adulation that hasnt been "earned" in any way their own mind can process.
The GB now as never before is getting their "star power" and mass adulation.
If you combine that with the amount of religious resolvea a group like the Org is capable o. then what?
What does it feel like to get up in the morning and stare at your face in the mirror and think " I speak for God"?
More importantly, what kind of emotional/mental effect does that have?

I am new to this discussion but I cant help but think of the parallel that exists all throughout history between religious fervor and mental imbalance.
It becomes somewhat of a chicken or the egg paradox.
Are people drawn to religion because of a mental frailty or does the being drawn to religion cause it?
If that theory has merit, IF, then the more steeped in religious thinking and behavoir, the greater the likelihood that mental fissures in the human psyche would seem inevitable.

Gerald Garner (AKA Goldberg) - Dr. Ron Lapin's Lawyer
by OrphanCrow ini have posted this information on another thread, but i think it is important enough to have its own thread.. i have been doing research into the roots of "bloodless medicine" and naturally, the "bloodless surgeon" ron lapin that the jws hail as a hero, has come under my scrutiny.
this post concerns the lawyer gerald garner, who represented ron lapin during the 80s and 90s when lapin was being investigated for dangerous medical practices, and for being too eager to slice open patients by burning them with a cauterizing knife.
garner was received to the new york bar in 1961, and was suspended in new york in 1984 for his role in an adoption proceeding.

I have the greatest respect for this man. He first came to my attention when I read a quote of his ten years ago. It is my favorite quote
The world is full of magical things patiently waiting for our wits to grow sharper.
I have this hand painted and hanging on a wall so I can see it often.
It seems to me that so many people polarize their views. Religious views one way and atheists views the other. Very little middle ground.Russell was very much an atheist but was able to bridge that ground between the two views better than anyone I have ever seen.
If more atheists were able to adopt his approach, I think atheism would be more attractive than any religion. He made it so.
Thank you for starting a thread on this genius of a man Brokeback.
