Can you wear what you want in N. Korea? Grow a beard?
Perhaps N. Korea is more lenient...
"it's like north korea..." is a phrase i use often to describe this life to outsiders.

I noticed that they clapped too when the reinstatement was read.
Remember when that was a no no? And now its ok?

“i’ve never seen any properties kept in better shape,” tim says.
“anyone who buys them will be happy that they did and they won’t need to spend a dime on upgrades to infrastructure.” tim, who tells us he attended a breakfast at the white house about a decade ago, goes as far as to say the buildings are better maintained than the presidential residence..
according to the elder's rulebook, there is this addendum in the chapter on the grounds for judicial committee and the section: "misuse of addictive drugs":.
please note: the use of addictive drugs under medical supervision, such as for pain management, would not necessarily require judicial review.
when questions arise, consult with the branch office.. .
Hi, nonjwspouse!
I agree!
Yes that rule for pilots has changed for the reasons you mentioned above., it was ruled archaic and now pilots can take what they need to have.
I only have one area where I feel strongly on this and that is when an elder goes in to a back room and sits in judgement on a young person (or any person).
They dont need their lives altered in any way by someone who is struggling in their own life, or whose mental clarity is impaired by a medications side effects or the impairment of needing a medication that they are not taking.
This dilemma, cuts both ways.
Just one more way we know for sure that there is no "holy spirit" attending these meetings.
the title above is a question asked by my wife seemingly hundreds of times in 1993, the year our only child was disfellowshipped.
the entire story exceeds the reasonable limits of this forum and i have to suppress the urge to write it.
instead, i will give little snippets, what a certain elder said at this or that point, how jehovah's organization treated us, how we handled our gradual awakening to, yes, "the truth about the truth.
There is nothing that can rip your heart out faster than helplessly watching a young person man handled by a judicial committee.
When that young person is "your" young person, it becomes the biggest nightmare a parent can experience.
There are most definitely some of us here that will see ourselves in your words and your experience I am sure.
Your wifes question was very heartfelt and poignant to read.
.... i just looked through some videos on the scientology and the mormon youtube channels.animated whiteboard animations, bad acting, compelling music...it's all the same as jw.org...or the other way around.the similarity is very striking to me.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghjomvjadbghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxf3pwvjoka.
i wonder why that is....

We had a thread a while back discussing how they might have (probably did in fact) used an outside consulting company.
It was especially mind boggling to see the videos the Mormons have produced for children as compared to the "Caleb and Sophia" videos the Org is using.
Guess which ones came first? Yes, the Mormons did it first.
I would love to know the name of the media consulting firm that was used!
Thank you Zeb!
This is within the lifetime of many who were born in or converted. This is not from the 1800s.
Not that it should matter but I find it sometimes eye opening to say to still in people, you do realize this was written the year after your dad was born?
Or the year after your parents were baptized..
I am extremely tired of the way the Org lets old teachings die out rather than defend them or apologize for them.
So cowardly.
i pass along this advice as a new topic, to get it past one off comments that may not get as much attention.. i exited the jehovah's witnesses about a decade ago.
like many, my personal situation felt to restrained to act on my impulse and get out quickly.
i took about a year and a half to two years to leave via da.. i empathize with anybody leaving the watchtower who finds it difficult to falsify dedication, interest, and belief in both their personal and public life.

What did you do about going out in service when you knew you didn't believe it anymore?
I dont know if this would help any for you but pack your car as full as you can with publishers so that no one gets much of a turn.
Check out your own territory and chose one where you know most people are at work everyday.
If you do have to talk to someone - pick a light easy scripture of encouragement and just say:
My purpose in calling today was to share an encouraging thought from the Bible - read the scripture and tell them to have a nice day and leave......
if the JW accompanying you questions what you did at the door, just say that you are trying something new that the C.O recommended......which was to use the Bible more at the door.
(C.O.s are always saying this....they also say to use discretion about leaving literature so you can use that line also if you wish)

This is AWESOME oldskool!
What does the Org say about that....they say you only have to tell the truth to those who are entitiled to it,
Well! By virtue of everything they do and say they are not entitled to My truth, That is how I get around any moral dilemma with them.
I also appreciate your point about not reading and getting worked up. Most JWs are tired and stuck and not up for the fight...better for everyone to use a light touch .
Thanks for taking the time to write this all out, you are going to help some who are struggling.
