I would go.
It is not about me. It is about the person the service is for. I have honed the art of tuning out what is said from the platform and view Jws as just another religion among many.
I go when Catholic friends die too for the same reason.
Its true, I have personal history with JWs and the people there and the religion was personally not helpful and even hurtful in some ways to me but as I said, someones funeral/memorial isnt about me and I dont make it about me. I do it for them.

For me, I left because when I became aware of inept and corrupt elders and the leadership in New York failed to effectively address the matter. They wouldnt address it at all in fact.
I would probably not have left over the elders actions alone, it was seeing that no one is really concerned about what goes on, so much as they are just concerned with keeping the machine running.
That started me looking at the "machine" itself and well..........
I can only compare it to the wizard of Oz. In order to keep publishers in place, they must keep them from peeking behind the curtain like I did.
As for why they exist, people would love it if they could just hand over the big questions of life. Go to a few meetings a week, put some money in a box and bam! You are guaranteed God likes you AND all that goes with that...not the least of which is living forever someday in a better world.
On the surface, that seems a fair exchange and easier than picking your own path through life with no guaranteed outcomes.
As long as you dont scratch the veneer and see below the surface, it can still work for some.

An Active JW Sister Modelling For Me
by pale.emperor insince leaving the borg i jumped both feet first into classes i've always wanted to do but was never "allowed" to.
two of which are life drawing and photography.
i've been studying for almost two years now and have seen more nude men and women in our classes than i care to remember.. today in the photography studio i was working in with three others (two women, one man) we were told we had a new person modelling for us.

for general information i am now 19 years old, and living by myself.
for the past 1 year (more like 1.5 years) i have been quietly fading out of the hypocrisy of this organization, but since i still live in the town i grew up in it has been hard, and filled with different challenges.
