  Why not leave?

  i've noticed on my brief time on these forums that there seems to be quite a few that have serious doubts about the org or know of all the lies etc of it but still go to meetings or even still serve as a ms or elder.. i'm just curious as to why you still bother going?

  no offense meant here...i'm not being all judgemental like typical jws but am curious.

  i'm guessing a lot of it is down to not wanting to break up the family or losing relatives etc.

  You're right RagingBull I can't relate to some of it. I was wanting to see how people like you coped with having to put up with things, and yes I was wondering why others who had less to lose hadn't left yet.

  I still have my inlaws who are constantly telling my wife what to believe and that she will come running back to the org once we have spent time in the "world" & how theres nothing else there. My father-in-law is an elder and OTT in the "truth". If we were to make mention of what we have learnt etc since we left well I'm guessing we could still get DF'd. Although, unlike many, I can afford to as I would only cut off my inlaws. My family still live in SA so we don't get to speak with them much. My mom cries eveytime I phone her and my sister is a Special pioneer so really turns on the emotional bullying tactics that she seems to have picked up in her studies.. We get the whole we killing the grandchildren etc. And although it would be sad if we were cut off from them completely , like you said, we are still lucky to have come out as a family.

  Still I'm here to learn from others and help where I can.

  my wife left with my little child.

  my fault (i dislike the word "fault", but don't have a better one right now).. it feels strange, relieved and free, at the same time it was all very strange.

  I had my doubts whilst in but I only learnt the truth about the org once I left and it has been strengthened by reading COC.. I was also lucky that my wife had even more doubts than me so as a family we left together. I can't imagine having to still go to DCs and KH knowing what I know now (and I'm sure theres alot more I will learn as time goes on) So how do you manage and why..

  after being here on jwn for a while, one does see a spectrum of sorts.

  there are people here in various stages of their exit from their lives as jws.

  some are full fledged kh and fs attendees whom we call "the conscious class".

  how determined are you to never return to life as a JW? No chance. Not with the info I now know. NEVER !! Do you still miss old JW "friends"? No, not at all. Majority of witnesses are false. No offense to those still going!! Those that I was and am still friends with had already left before me. Why is it that the geniune and nice ones are the ones that leave the JW's Do you miss the company of JW relatives? I live in UK but my whole family live in SA, so that doesn't really come into. It doesn't stop them pushing their views though. My in laws dont count because they're inlaws afterall. I have my wife and kids and that good enough for me Do even the smallest of thoughts that maybe, just maybe, the JWs are right about some things, still haunt the darkest corners of you mind? Sometimes, but I'm sure over time the 34 years of brainwashing "from infancy" will soon completely disappear Do you still have the occasional nightmare about dying during the big A? no. but for some reason I still believe in life after death. not sure the hows, whys and wheres yet So I ask faders here again: how far along are you in your exit and are you doubting yourself? only 10 months since I left, but no doubts, just regrets that I didn't leave earlier.

  What was your volunteer job(s) at DCs?

  seeing as it's that time of year i've been reminiscing.

  i used to volunteer as i really struggled to sit still all day, even with all the note-taking and sitting next to the deaf loop system and watching the bsl interpreter to try and learn a bit of bsl.. i have.... counted and voided food tokenspacked fruit bags at a sandwich stallcleaned the stadium at opening and closingcleaned and attended ladies toiletsmanned (or should that be womanned?!

  When is was in my teens in SA I worked in trucking department ( setting up for the food stalls etc)

  attendant and then in UK I worked in security up until last years DC

  Just to an excuse really to spend half the day walking around and chatting

  My First DC 'Mentally Out'

  This going to be the first DC I've missed. I stopped going just after last years one (July) It just sounds like same old stuff, sugar coated and dished out again. I here there is a talk about Apostasy.. My in-laws and my family are going to love that... That should get them questioning us. Oh, by the way I' new to this forum
