Thanks for the replies. I still can't believe the lengths the organization will go to. Its mind-boggling. Information control at its best. It is so sickening that the elder that is giving my husband's parents the roughest time about associating with him, grew up with my husband as best friends, they were like brothers. This all seems like a really strange nightmare.

Elders from the hall we attended for three years before we left the org, called the elders at our old hall (in another state!) to tell them that my husband had been DA'd. My husband's family attends that hall. Now those elders are giving his family a hard time about their association with us.
Don't know if they actually announced it to the congregation, I'll have to find out.
Talk about control, is this what's normally done? I didn't know they would go that far...calling the hall we used to attend......His family already knew he was going to be DA'd though.

Sheila, a friend of mine got engaged to her boyfriend the day of her baptism as well, it was after the session during dinner tho. She was eighteen.
I think this must happen quite often.

Dub Fads
by In_between_days inwhen you were a jw, did you witness a rather large enthusiasm from your congregation for passing fads?
what i mean is, one dub would start something and everyone would join in?
this was especially prevelant with the women of the congregations.. for instance, for a while every female dub was undertaking this strange diet where they basically drink this really odd and particularly disturbing looking mushroom that they kept in their fridge.

Don't know if this qualifies as a fad or not but many in a congregation we attended seemed to have back problems and saw a chiropractor. They all went to the same chiropractor. Maybe they all had back problems because of lugging those heavy bookbags around. They would talk about how they had gone to get an adjustment and how much work their back needed.
Lots of people seemed so sickly, maybe it was due to the JW lifestyle (it kept you run down). So many complained of chronic fatigue syndrome. I think the Society started that fad in the congregations when they published the WT or Awake article that discussed CFS.

We have neighbors who are Mormons and they tried really hard to recruit us after we left the JWs, their attempt was unsuccessful.

Princess, I made my husband swear that he would not accept anything for free anymore...it always comes with a price. Telemarketers have called with trial products and then you have to cancel after a month if you don't want it. I'm the one who has to go thru all of the crap of cancelling and even while you are cancelling they're still trying to sell it to you: they say something like "You still have X amount of days left, don't you want to continue trying out our product and then call back when the thirty days are up?"

Salute the flag
by manon induring my childhood growing up jw while in grammar school saluting the flag or reciting the pledge of allegiance was practice every morning in our classrooms.
before the begining of every school year my mother would have a talk with my new teachers about our religious beliefs and practices.
i detested this i wanted to recite the pledge just like my classmates and sing the star spangled banner outloud.
-
MoeJoJoJo
That definitely was difficult, because it was something you had to face every single school day unlike holidays and birthdays.
It was horrible when a classmate would raise their hand right after the pledge, and ask the teacher in front of the whole class why I wasn't reciting it. A couple of times I had to explain to the class.

Post your favorite JW "DEMON" story
by MoeJoJoJo in.
we've all heard different stories floating around our congregations of different ones(bible studies, or brothers or sisters) having an encounter or 'problems' with demons.
what was your favorite?.

MoeJoJoJo
I also remember hearing the cat-dog story.
As JW kids growing up my siblings & I were not allowed to watch Scooby Doo,,,,, but it was the highlight of many get-to-gethers to tell & listen to demon stories and experiences?!?
ozzie, I never thought about this, thanks for pointing it out:
I find it interesting that the Dubs teach that the woman and child portrayed in the Revelation is the birth of the kingdom which had to be snatched away into heaven away from the clutches of the fiery dragon i.e. Satan. Clearly from this teaching the WTS believes that Satan has MORE power than Christ. If they don't, then why did Jehovah have to snatch away into heaven this new-born kingdom?
hey, one of my few flameworthy threads!!!! Keep em coming, Its fun reading these.
