Hair-raising Tale!

let's have some fun.did you find out some juicy gossip about a witness that you are just dying to blab?.

here's one from me.. i went to a hairdressing salon for the first time and the stylist was a camp male who never stopped chatting from the second he got his gesticulating paws on my scruffy mop.. my mum who is a devout jw was sitting reading a mag waiting for me.. next thing he's telling us about his gay male friend who is a bit down because he is having an affair with a jw.

to make things worse he is married with kids (the brother not the gay friend).. stifling my shock and trying not to look at my mum who is staring wildly and unseeingly at her mag i asked his name or address and although he didn't know the name he told us his street and district!.

Wow! Some very interesting tales here!

I do not have any to share about others, but I can tell you that I was the 'butt' of one gossip story that I caused my best friend's anorexia. I was very hurt by it, but our family was the family that everyone blamed when the elder's kids did something wrong. And, I was to blame for her anorexia because we got into a disagreement about something.

I just want to say thanks to all who have welcomed me and I really am enjoying most everyone's posts!

i will quote them in italics and then make my own observations.. jehovah's witnesses office of public information.

You guys are all cracking me up! This really brings back memories.

This reminds me of a time when my sister and I were in our teens, and the above-mentioned socializing was a big thing for us too. Well, we were sitting through yet another boring talk where there was lots of clapping going on. My sister leaned over and whispered to me, "I'm gonna be the 1st one to start the clapping in our section next!" I kind of laughed a little and at about that time, the brother giving the talked paused as if waiting for applause. My sister started pounding her hands together and her face was so serious and she just kept clapping like you would not believe! Well...only one other person followed her lead, but very briefly. I was trying so hard not to laugh and everyone was looking at us like, "how dare you!" Then I just couldn't hold it in anymore. I was just about in tears laughing! This was one of the few times we managed to get my mom laughing as well. THEN, at lunch, two guys were talking to us and one of them said, "Did you hear that idiot who was clapping when no one else was?!" It was pretty darn funny, I tell ya!

Anyway, just had to share...

Thanks PLH, that was fun. I like those tests. I got 10 out of 11 - I missed the question regarding legal to marry your widow's sister. I almost missed the Moses question though.

I actually went back to retake the test to see what would happen if I answered "I don't know" to all of them; because, isn't that a correct answer if I really didn't know the answer? But, it gave me a '0' score.

Are JW's starting there own college?

a friend heard (already hearsay, right?

) that the wt society is thinking about or is already in the process of setting up a college.

After reading Larc's comment, the only obvious college educated ones I could think of are the attorneys. Maybe they will start their own law school.

Conventions & "Apostates"

I remember at the Pullman, WA convention one year, these people passing out pamphlets. My mom kept telling us not to look at them or talk to them as we passed, but I know one of my brothers happened to sneak over and get one. I was pretty young (10-12 or so), so I do really recall what was in it. But, they did leave an impression on me. I just wondered why it was that we couldn't listen to what they had to say and that they must have something important to say to take the time to sit there with signs and pamphlets.

- Dogpatch, I cannot even think of words to write that come close to describing my admiration of your work!
- Ridgerunner, I've often wondered the same - is there anyone that organizes these protests?

All these posts bring back a lot of memories! If only there was a way to hear these hymns as we are reading them!

Tina, I actually liked those high notes and watching the guys try to hit them! It was pretty funny watching their expressions and seeing how some would fake singing them. I remember how sometimes my parents would not let one of my brothers and I sit next to each other at mtgs. If there was a high-pitched song, I was usually in hysterics listening to him try to hit them. Then the laughing thing was just a chain reaction to all those around us!

How about this one, "Bold and determined in this time of the end!" The tunes are just so funny!

I just had to say that I too was totally disgusted with this letter. I read it to my mom (who is inactive) and she was just as appalled as I was.

The confidentiality law is one thing, but as others have also pointed out, there is no talk about encouraging this murderer to turn himself in. It is even mentioned that if the elders break their confidentiality it would be detrimental to the murderer and his wife.

Don't the Catholics encourage their members to turn themselves in if they committed a crime? Does anyone know if other religious clerics encourage confessed murderers to turn themselves in?

It kind of spooks me thinking back to the days when I thought the organization was so clean and criminal free. If I had kids back then, I probably would have trusted my children to be safe with almost any JW. I guess I was pretty naive. Granted other religions may harbor criminals as well, but I think most who were JWs were told to trust the elders in protecting the flock and to trust the other brothers and sisters.

I am a little curious about the law on this and maybe Pork Chop can help out. Who can the elder legally confide in? Can he confide in another elder? Can he legally confide in the WTBTS INC? Is the WTBTS Corporation legally binded from turning the criminal in?

Question about member numbers

i was wondering if anyone knew how the jehovah's witnesses stand as far as there numbers go in regards to other *newer* religions such as the mormons, the moonies, the adventists, scientologists, etc?.

i was wondering because this is a point that jw's will use when pointing that they are gods people.

(the fact that their numbers have climbed so quickly in a relatively short period of time, so they must have god's direction, blessing) of course i think this is hooey!

I agree! I was just thinking about that this last week when I was looking at the numbers on baptisms and new publishers here in the US. I was wondering how many of those were converted and how many of those were JW kids coming of age. They just don't break that out, do they? It would also be interesting to know statistics regarding how many were DF'd, DA'd or how many are considered inactive.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Monica and I live in the northwestern part of the USA. My parents became JWs in 1975 when I was 5. I was baptized when I was 16 and 'slipped away' when I was about 19 along with most of my family. As far as I know, my status is 'inactive'.

I am 31, married (to someone who knows nothing about JWs) and have two children (a 3 yr old boy and an almost 1 yr old girl). I own an online Resume writing business, which allows me to stay at home with my children.
