It took me some time to realize what you all have stated, but it is true: JWs are taught that we MUST have the answers to everything or life has NO MEANING!! Once I realized and and accpeted that NOTHING is guaranteed, that NO ONE knows the reasons for suffering, violence, etc, that life IS WHAT IT IS and we need to make the BEST OF IT I cold move on! I finally realized that the best we can do is live our lives in a way to have a positive impact on our families and society...only then could I find peace...something most JWs will NEVER know.

So what do your Jehovah's Witness friends and loved ones think of the generation teaching?
by garyneal inafter the little skit at the last assembly where one brother was asking another for understanding about the generation teaching i thought, "wow, these people will believe anything the watchtower tells them.
" the 'more mature brother' practically said verbatim everything the watchtower said as his explanation.
evidently, this is one of the sources of the increased 'murmuring' that the talked warned against.. so, has anyone brought this up to their witness friends and/or family?

I remember that place. It was as a dump when it was purchased. It was renovated and maintained with free labor and was immaculate when sold. Great investment. Oh, but we should not be interested in good investments or making a profit. My bad.

5/15 WT - WT Society Displays Condescending Attitude towards Marriage
by flipper inas most of us know the wt society has always claimed that it's dissapproved in god's sight to marry a non-jw .
although they've never made it a disfellowshipping offense, any jw who marries outside the jw organization is looked at as " weak " or lacking " spirituality " and loses certain alleged " privileges " in the congregations.
they use scriptures in the old testament as support for this.

There are many elders who were once "unbeleivers" and married a JW. I know one who now conducts the WT. He was my brother-in-law. I wonder what he thinks? I wonder what his wife thinks?

Since exiting the Witnesses have you Become More " Spiritual " ? - Not ........
by flipper in..... necessarily more religious, but more spiritual in a non-religious way ?
although being religious is one of the definitions os " spiritual " it encompasses much more in the webster's new world dictionary , under the word spiritual it's definition is : " 1. of the spirit or the soul as distinguished from the body or material matters 2. of, from, or concerned with the intellect ; intellectual 3. of or consisting of spirit ; not corporeal 4. characterized by the ascendancy of the spirit ; showing much refinement of thought and feeling 5. of religion or the church ; sacred, devotional, or ecclesiastical ; not lay or temporal 6. spiritualistic or supernatural .
quite a variety of definitions !

I belive I am more spiritual. I REALLY listen to what others believe and try to understand. I don't believe in organized religion at all, but try to focus on the principals I can glean from religious, philosophical and secualr giants. I enjoy life without hurting others. I am finally FREE. I am finally ME.

Is there any religion that has so much anti-apostate focus as JWs
by yadda yadda 2 ini'm surprised at how much is in the watchtower lately and at assemblies warning of apostates.
is it my imagination or is this ramping up a lot lately.
i am a born-in and stopped attending only a few years ago (now in my 40's) but don't remember so much anti-apostate warning as we see now.. the watchtower seems extra obsessed with apostates and the need to warn about them lately.

I don't know the answer to that but I can tell you that all of my family and friends has cut me off even though I am not disfellowshipped, but inactive. There position is, if you are not with us, then we are not with you. I don't ever remember treating and inactive person that way. Ever.

Letter to the Writing Department from Barbara Anderson
by Dogpatch ini thought i knew you.
an open letter from barbara anderson to watch towers writing department.
in 1517, martin luther wrote in a letter to archbishop albert of mainz: you must graciously forgive that i, that scum of the earth, am so bold as to dare to address a letter to you.. yes, i know, you think of me as scum, just like mainz believed of luther, wondering how i dare write you a letter, someone jehovahs witnesses disfellowshipped back in 2002. i was accused of being an unrepentant sinner and condemned for causing divisions, then labeled apostate because i spoke out publicly on nbcs dateline tv program aboutthe child sexual abuse policies that protected pedophiles policies that you helped formulate.

I know Barbara personally and have a great deal of respect for her. I know many in the Writing Department as well. I have worked as a researcher for them. They will read her letter. They have to. They know she is an OUTSANDING researcher and they know she is right. An article refuting her ideas will be forthcoming.
Go get 'em Barbara.

Reality setting in for Jehovah's Witnesses?
by MrDarkKnight inwhen my friends and family try to "reason" with me about my decision to leave, i immediatley begin to question the interpretation of the so-called prophecy in the bible, i am getting the following consistent response:.
"it does not matter if the end comes in my lifetime.
i know i am doing god's will.".

@Blondie...I am 45...these are people my age and older...the 1975 generation...we all bought into the end of the world. That was the push in the 70s and 80s. I was serving at Bethel in 1989 when the wall came down in Eastern Europe. Big things were supposed to happen, then they didn't.
When they tinkered with the very things that sold me...the sheep and the goats prophecy and the generation, I immediatley concluded that the interpretations I dedicated my life to were being tossed to the side. From that point on I began my slow slide to making the decision to leave.
Starting your life over without any support system is daunting and very hard...trust me I know. But I am experienceing the happiness of doing what I really believe and being successful and happy. (Shiver me timbers!)
Now they seem to be focusing more on how terrible everyone else is and how righteious and happy they are. I only keep track because my 13 year sold is still in with his mom...although when he is with me the Kingdom Hall is not on his agenda AT ALL!
I think that many want to make change but don't quite know what to do. I started the thread to see what others have heard.
Just curious.

When Someone You Love Is Removed As An Elder!
by Bubblegum Apotheosis inlast week we lost a wonderful elder (removed, stepped down is what i will believe) , this man was as real, as you can get.
he loved the sheep,.
his eternal optimism of humanity is a rare quality in the jw religion.

"It does not matter if the end comes in my lifetime. I know I am doing God's will."
This response is dumbfounding to me. The reason I became a Witness at 15 years old was because of the interpretation of so-called prophecy. The reason I left at age 44 was because I finally admitted to mysel,f that the interpretation of so-called prophecy was simply guessing and revising the guess. Strangely enough, for me, doing God's will was never the reason I joined.
Has anyone else had this experience? Are the rank and file resigning themselves to "serving God" until they expire and hoping for a miracle?

Latest Watchtower page 30... They have some nerve to put this!
by TimothyT inone thing that i have always noticed even when i was a jw is that the jw org has lots and lots and lots of rules for allsorts of stupid petty rules which make no difference.
when you read the bible you see how they are clearly in the wrong here and are acting like the pharisees themselves, who imposed so much pressure on others to conform to the law.
am i missing something here!?!?

Interesting thread. DJeggnog is definitetly not part of the JW establishment, because if he was he would not be posting on this board. He displays an inaccurate knowledge of JW teachings, and lacks the finesse required to be of the JW leadership. I am not sure of his purpose for posting, he is not drawing people as Christ did, but is alienating them.
I find him entertaining, but his commentary pointless.
