1 Thessalonians 5:3....Prophecy ?

i've always had difficulty understanding how watch tower interprets 1 thessalonians 5:3 as prophetic of a future event - that the nations will unite in a (false) cry that they have achieved 'peace and security' which will signal the start of the great tribulation.

whenever i've read that passage i got the sense that it is simply stating a general principle... that when people are complacent and off-guard, thinking everything is o.k., peaceful and secure then sudden unexpected events hit them harder and they don't know what to do.

when i was first coming in (1980s) i well recall the "true peace and security" book that made a big deal about the un having declared 1986 'the international year of peace'.

I'd like to add another scripture that the Organization uses to say that Paul was even a Visionary, when in fact he was not.

2 Corinthians 12:1-5

This is where Paul relates a man's vision of him being sent to the third heaven and to paradise. Paul is boasting about this man's special vision but he refuses to boast about himself in any way. The vision was not given to Paul it was given to this unnamed man. The Insight Book says this about that vision on 2 Corinthians in the section on Heaven.

"Since there is no mention in the Scriptures of any other person having had such an experience, it seem likely that this was the apostle's own experience."

Paul said it wasn't his vision and he didn't want to boast about himself so he boasted about this guy. They can't throw in the words "seems likely" to prove their point without data to support their conclusions.

Main stream media has no sense or reasoning. Sometimes when I watch programs like CNN I feel like I'm watching a scene out of "Don't Look Up". Leo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence can't get through to the show's staff that a killer asteroid is on the way. The only thing that concerns them is the relationship between two famous people that may be getting back together.

hi to all, i have been away from the organization since the 1980's and as it seems, i haven't missed a thing.

i have seen a deterioration take place that is continually getting more dramatic than i have ever seen.

the thumbing down or the minimizing of spiritual food is reason enough that people are starving for something good.

Please describe what you read in the letter that shouldn't be present in Daniel chapter 11. I'm curious because I still attend but have doubts.

Did you know in 1964 they believed the original serpent had limbs. Then the new leadership in 2007 decided the old leadership was wrong and said it didn't. They were in Watchtower articles in the "Questions from Readers" section. There's actually pictures of it with limbs in the book, "New Heavens and a New Earth" published in 1953, page 81.

If there was time machine and the old leaders came to greet the new leaders the new ones would be disfellowshipped in a heartbeat due to all the changes they made.

in the org's vocabulary, the term "independent thinking" is applied pejoratively to any jw who thinks & reasons for themselves.

the org's lawyer knew exactly what he was doing in court when he voiced his carefully prepared words:.

Just remember, it's not just the parent's fault it's also the three elders that interview the baptismal candidate. Those three elders decide if the person is qualified and understands what they are getting into with the baptism. The organization trains those elders. They do not think independently. They think as one mind with the organization. The fault lies with those in Warwick, NY USA.

It sounds like Eric Wilson does not want to be preached to in the comments section. Apparently he is the only one allowed to preach on his Youtube channel.

Don't forget he's still a JW at heart. Maybe you are branded as a "voice of strangers" which was drilled into him when he was an elder. He only wants praise directed at him in the comments section.

They're making it up as they go along. Also, they were not divinely appointed to be God's representative in this day and age. A true appointment would be likened to a Damascus road event with Paul. To my recollection no one in the Bible Students or JW's had a direct conversation with Jesus on a special appointment. Everything that comes out of the mouth of "those that take the lead" should be taken with a grain of salt. Every time they promote a prediction that never comes to pass the whole organization is guilty of presumptuousness. King Saul fell into the sin of presumptuousness after he refused to follow the command of God, Never again would God deal with Saul and from then on everything Saul did seemed nutty. The guy did not know right from wrong and everything was against him. The Witnesses fell into this trap when they assumed they were speaking for God.

Luke Evans new book about being JW

i haven’t read it but just browsing say jehovah’s witnesses mentioned a lot.. there are pictures of his congregations he was brought up in.

and his father looks like an elder years ago when luke was young, but i could be wrong.. later on there are pictures of his father was one of the extras in the hobbit as luke had a lead role.

could his father still be an elder and be in movies.
