Concerned JW I apologize being mentally diseased & all I get carried away.

Since mind control depends on creating a new identity within the individual, cult doctrine always requires that a person distrust his own self. The doctrine becomes the "master program" for all thoughts, feelings, and actions. Since it is the TRUTH, perfect and absolute, any flaw in it is viewed as only a reflection of the believer's own imperfection. He is taught that he must follow the prescribed formula even if he doesn't really understand it. At the same time he is told that he should try to work harder and have more faith so he will come to understand the truth more clearly.

Continuing to draw the line between cults and DESTRUCTIVE cults

the easiest place to start understanding a spectral concept, such as cults, is to indentify it's lowest and highest points rather than starting somewhere in the middle.. so lets call the lowest point of the cult spectrum benign and the highest point destructive.. a good example of an extremely benign cult would be the following of the not so popular 80s movie: the princess bride of which i consider myself a member (no documentation .

if you were to come up to me and claim to be part of the princess bride's cult following i could figure out whether you are a true member by asking you a few questions.

based on your answers i could then conclude that you either meet the criteria or that you do not.

In some groups, happiness simply means following the leader's directions,
recruiting a lot of new members, or bringing in a lot of money. Happiness is
defined as the sense of community provided by the cult, to those who enjoy
good status.
Loyalty and devotion are the most highly respected emotions of all. Members
are not allowed to feel or express negative emotions, except toward
outsiders. Members are taught never to feel for themselves or their own needs
but always to think of the group and never to complain. They are never to
criticize a leader, but criticize themselves instead.
Many groups exercise complete control over interpersonal relationships.
Leaders can and do tell people to avoid certain members or spend time with
others. Some even tell members whom they can marry, and control the entire
relationship, including their sex lives. Some groups require members to deny or
suppress sexual feelings, which become a source of bottled-up frustration that
can be channeled into other outlets such as harder work. Other groups require
sexuality, and a member who hangs back is made to feel selfish. Either way, the
group is exercising emotional control.

They have made mistakes but why would that stumble me? We are told that our condition means mistakes will happen but Jehovah will keep guiding through these mistakes.

We are followers of Jehovah whether we are anointed, elders, pioneers or publishers. And it is he who judges opur heart conditions. I think the anointed, governing body do a very good job considering how hard things are and how much perfection people expect from them.

There are simply no scriptures that say the spirit makes us or our organisation/congregation perfect at this time before Armageddon, it only guides us! Quite the contrary we are said to need refinement right upto the end. Revelations shows that the congregations will have difficulties as a whole. You are reading a new unbiblical set of standards into your expectations of Jehovah's people which is sad. The spirit is perfect but it isn't time to make us perfect yet so it will not have that effect. Fallibility under imperfection is our reality. So nitpicking over our usage of prophecies is like looking for the odd lost stitch in a perfectly usable Blanket.

i encountered an elder the other day.....some threads ago i told of how concerned elder 'alf' (name changed as his real name makes me vomit), came over to 'encourage' me back to the meetings.

after being hounded by him i told him about 'randcam', philip morris and the un.. .

folks, i dont post much although i have been raised a jw all my life.. it has been awhile since this begain to bother me but i have to ask...what is the true story of why the wtbts created a 2nd edition for wt magazine placement purposes only?

i have been puzzled but can only suppose the reasons, costs, control, etc...but truly did they think that when ct russell started the magazine it was for all to read, not published for a "select few" and if you come regular to the meetings we'll get you the "real issue" with real articles?.

i know this has probably been discussed over and over, but please humor me and tell me how they can with a straight face "they" think this was "ok" to publish in this manner.. this alone smacks of hypocrasy, as it was not the intention of the faithful slave to do such a thing when jesus put control on earth in ct's hands, funny how that works out.

Could you eat breakfast after watching this at Bethel?

this is a partial video of the morning breakfast table in brooklyn bethel in the late 80s, with lyman swingle hosting... the governing body member who at first tried to shelter ray franz from disfellowshipping, but then within a year or two his spirit was broken and he was a bitter man.. randy (i was there and it was death-dealing, like the death eaters from harry potter!).

Not that this makes it any better but this video is two parts put together. At 7am it's the daily text and comments then prayer. We started to eat after the prayer at 7:15 20 minutes of breakfast & table talk. At 8:35 the drivel began again. Except during Br Losch he went on and on. We only got a 5-10 minute break before 8:35.

I use to think there was something wrong with me for sitting there with no reaction. I remember the stares when I didn't clap or laugh along with everyone else. Reading your reactions confirms it wasn't me it was them.
