I believe that D'Fing is one cruel way that the WBTS uses to control people and a way to "weed" out those who do not conform to the religion. Elders seem to over abuse their power. Also, they way they solve problems is by getting rid of "undesirables." Then they can make the common claim, "We, witnesses are better, because we don't have problems like that in the world."

Hello fellow New Englanders,
I live outside of Boston. Recently, I decided to see what all the new construction fuss was about at Natick, so I kind of "snuck" in with my parent that is still active in the "truth."
I was shocked, publishers were eating and drinking (during talks) in the auditorium. We never got to do that! The cafeteria is smaller.
There are less parking spaces, but more auditorium seating. One way in and one way out, what a mess trying to leave! New interior colors, but the same old guilt trip on the platform.
Eyebrow, I thought your post about the stupid rules about appropriate winter clothing out in service was so true. As a female, the males got to do everything, too. Congrats on your pregnancy, I hope the yoga will help.

Where Do I Go Now?
by individual inwith all the problems in the 'truth' and all the things that we know are wrong with it there seems to be aspects of their theology (i.e the sequences of the world powers, statue in daniel, the promise of world restoration again found in daniel) that to me still make sense.
although i cannot follow a religion that believes in the destruction of all humanity barring those that respond to their own preaching work i still believe in a creator and cannot accept the teachings of other religions that have no purpose for the earth and believe that mankinds only destiny is in heaven.
my mind keeps telling me that if god was behind a religion it would be so much better than that of the jws.

I believe, that perhaps a better question might be how do we learn from our past, move ahead with the present, continue to grow and learn from mistakes.
One can not change what has happened in our environment, but one can hope to change our attitudes towards a positive more meaningful life. I firmly believe that you create your own happiness.
In the short time, that I have been reading and admiring all the opinions on this website, I feel that your support is also very important in continuing to move forward. It's also nice to know that one is not alone at what can be a confusing period in life.
Thanks for listening,

Hello!
Don't forget to wait for the movie outtakes at the end of Rush Hour II.
BTW Chocolat has NO subtitles, which I believe hurt the movie at the box office.
Both great movies! Thumbs up!

Believe it or not there has been several studies and research that has been done on Jehovah Witnesses. I have grown up in the "truth" for many years, and have had many experiences with mental illness.
There is an excellent book (I ordered my copy on Amazon.com) which I can recommend highly, which helped me very much.It has chapters concerning various studies, mental health rates among witnesses, influencing factors, sexual preoccupations, shunning, suicide, conformity, conflicts, witness administration, mind control, and how to leave the organization and the author's belief about the JW future.
It is a non technical book. The book is: "Jehovah's Witnesses and the problem of Mental Illness"
Written by: Jerry R. Bergman, Ph.D.
Also, it took a month for me to recieve it, but it was definately an interesting read. Has anyone else read it?

Hello FreePeace,
I just wanted to say thank you for your post. I enjoyed visiting the website you recommended, and I thought it had many outstanding points we all could use whether we are new or old. I too, must remain anonymous (sp?) due to one parent that is still active. I liked your point on the site that stated:
"Recovery means moving forward and out of the past, in essence, getting "past the past."
This seems to be a daily struggle for me. Especially when a parent is still blindly accepting and deligating what he/she thinks is best. We are all individuals and adults with our own set minds trying to get along together, harmoneously. Anyway, thanks again for all the encouragement.

I believe there is another website specifically designed for JW singles. I am fairly new at this since I have been coming to this site for a couple of months. I prefer this website, since I have stopped associating with JW's for about 10 years, (one parent is still active, though).
The website is: www.geocities.com/hourglass2.geo/

I remember growing up in Upstate NY, when there was a controversary over whether or not to use a pen or not when underlining a WT. At the time, it was almost like defacing a "holy" document by marking it all over in pen. Eventually, it was the norm to underline your WT in pen. Otherwise, it would look like you didn't study it. "To pen or not to pen, that was the question."
