who escapes more often, those born into it or adult converts?
by kid-A inwhat strikes me on this board is the number of adult converts that have left the borg, either fading out or getting df'd.
from my experience (i was born into it, 2nd generation, left before getting baptized) most of the faders or escapees were also like.
me, born into it, never really accepted it and just bowed out at the first opportunity.

How many of you consider yourselves Pagan?
by FreedomFrog ini've started on a path that is very comfortable for me almost a year ago.
and now i'm wanting to see how many believe a similar way.. i looked into wiccan, celtic, eclectic and other forms of pagan.
i think that i've settled down into shamanism since that was the path my grandfather went.

I am also Wiccan. I've been studying Wicca for a little over a year now and am enjoying it. I've studied Shamanism also. I plan to study a lot of pagan beliefs and combine what I've learned to make myself a better person.

When I found this site I had stumbled across it and was scared sh**less. I was still in, but with many doubts. I read a couple of posts while looking behind me to make sure no jws came up behind even though I was in my own home. I saw a link to freeminds.org and quickly checked it out. I was so scared by what I saw and didn't go to any exjw sites for some months, but what I had seen affected me bc I knew that most of what was being said was things I had been thinking for so long. Eventually I posted on the old H2O board and have been here since.

Why are beards so bad?
by bother_forever inwhats with the idelology behind jws that "bro's" with beards are undeserving of privledge and advacemet in their f**cked up org?
what jesus never had facial hair?
i remember hearing comments like " yes he's a lovely bro, but he'll not be used by the cong because he needs to shave his beard".

In the congregation I was in one brother was in a motorcycle accident and broke his collar bone. He couldn't shave so he grew a beard. Immediatly he was forced to step down as an ms and his priviledges were taken away. People were talking about it constantly. They wondered why his wife couldn't shave it and finally the circuit overseer came and found out what was going on and reinstated his status and told the elders they should be ashamed of themselves. He said that facial hair didn't matter to spirituality. Ever since then almost half the congregations men grew beards or goatees. That was the only circuit overseer I liked.

Trying to get people to "support" pioneers!
by LongHairGal inthis was one topic that used to make me furious!
here the bible makes it perfectly clear that back then they supported their own ministry by working.
there is also the scripture about "counting the cost" implying that one should not undertake any project without making an assessment as to whether or not they could do it.

You guys had nice congregations in mine if you pioneered you got a slap on the back and that was it oh and a few extra parts at the hall or at the conventions. Other than that you fended for yourself. Actually I'm kinda glad that my congregation was like that it helped me to see what selfish people I was surrounded by and was one of the factors in pushing me to research the witnesses.

First time on here- DF'd almost 3 years ago
by feelinglost ini have toyed around with the idea of finding fellow df'd ones for about a year now.
i recently got married, and of course it has made me look at how it feels like i gave up one life for another.
the only member of my family who is a jw is my mother- and it kills me that we pretty much no longer have a relationship.

Welcome...You will find much encouragement and many friends here. If it wasn't for the people on this board I would still be trying to cope with all of my jw related problems.

I agree with dragonlady. The laws can still use improvement, but they are finally starting to get somewhere. These ppl are sick and destroy so many lives in so many ways hopefully something like this will make them think twice, but I doubt it at least parents will know who is in their neighborhood.

A special Christian message to terrorists.......
by WingCommander inlondon has my sincerest condolences on this great day of tragedy.
during this difficult time, it is easy to become full of hate and want vengence.
i know all about those feelings, and i remember in the bible somewhere where it states, "vengence is mine, sayith the lord.
