I definitly lean towards the athiests view. I don't believe in a higher power or anything that controls our actions.

This promise was also realized for the generation of 1914. My grandfather, born in 1904, had his only wish, being able to live straight through to the "new system", dashed to bits on his death bed. After the 1995 change of "this generation", he started to become depressed. At the age of 97 before his death he said, "They've been saying the end is coming, the end is coming, since the very beginning. I don't think it will ever come." He died shortly thereafter hurt by failed promises of the Watchtower.

Heaven? Hell?
by conflicted ini was asked the other day whether i believed in heaven and/or hell, and i almost started spouting jw doctrine before i stopped myself and really pondered the question.. it's a different world when you have to start thinking for yourself instead of letting the organization think for you.
when i left the jw's, i pretty much left religion in general, i dont consider myself agnostic, but i question everything religious i was ever taught.
from "does god exist" to "evolution", "faith", "death", everything i "knew" is under suspicion now.. so back to the topic, the witnesses teach: there is heaven, but only 144,000 get to go, there is no hell, only non-existance upon our death.

I don't believe in heaven or hell however I do believe that their is another dimension that all spirits go to when they die and that it's a wonderful place.

Assemblies...conventions...special days...
by NikL inthere is a phenomenon in dub dom that i have always hated.
the circuit/district convention.. people will spend hard earned money, use up any vacation they may have to travel to a city they don't really have any particular reason to see to sit for entire days and listen to the same b.s.
they could sit and listen to at the meetings in their home kingdom hall.

I know what you mean about the "exemplary" kids. I remember being interviewed at one assembly and the whole time I was thinking about my "worldly" girlfriend and the drinking party that me and my JW friends were gonna have when we got back. : )

If you went back...
by LovesDubs inive not been to a meeting in five years probably.
yet my husband still goes and i always envision him going in and the hardy handshakes he gives, greeting and being greeted, sitting there with all those suits with the secrets hidden inside, and all those pretty dresses hiding the pain.
if i wasnt disassociated, i wonder if i would be bolder, speak up, be honest with the "friends" instead of toeing the company line.

On a second note I didn't start to have my panic attacks until I was about 17. The worst part about it was that I was in the middle of giving a talk and I had to struggle through the rest of it. After that I had a hard time giving talks and going out in field service. But I pushed myself even doing a couple of special assembly parts. The attacks are finally starting to become less frequent.

Speaking of nightmares. I had a horrible one the other night. I was at the kingdom hall because I started to believe it all again. Shortly after I was going from door to door...needless to say I woke up in a cold sweat and was very relieved to be dreaming.

Hey Critter,
Ya she be the one. Ever since I went there when I was twelve to eighteen it's always been a cold cong. I think it will always be one. It's alot different than other congs. but I'm glad that's the one I went to because they made be look into things because of their ungodly attitudes.

I went to a meeting about a year ago and was suprised by the outcome. I wasn't df'd or da'd just inactive. I went up to my friend who happened to be a 70ish grandmotherly woman. She and I had been really close. She said hi and then dismissed me. Well, I was a little upset, but sat down and had two people come up to say hi out of 120+ that were there and one of them was my sister. I thought that people would be happy to see that I was there and trying to "come back", but throughout the meeting I got disgusted looks and outright rejection. The meeting was as boring as always with a little bit about apostates, a little about studying vigilantly, and a little bit about field service.

The only part of the conventions I liked was right when the session ended and we could get to the hotel and to the swimming pool. The last convention I went to I think I spent about 5 hours of the three days at the convention and the rest at the hotel having a party. I used to take attendant jobs also because it broke up the day and we were walking around more than sitting.
