Okay. After more than two years here on JWN, I will unmask myself and finally close the closet door behind me, fully coming out.
Let me be pithy.
My name is Vincent Deporter. I'm a writer/artist published a little all over the place. I started my career in France, about 35 years ago. I had my own comic book series there, and since 1996, I have been working on licenses for DC Comics, Nickelodeon and more. Photography is a passion also. If you are curious, Google me to see what I've been up to.
I was brought up a JW since the age of six. I had doubts at age 12, but my elder father had a temper, and I got baptized at 13. David Splane was our CO at the time (Canada — he STILL pushes kids baptism). It took me 45 years to face my cognitive dissonance and fight my bias.
The short story is that my love for my personal study turned my love for Jehovah into burning anger and hateful disgust for him. That hate calmed down when I realized this was a character invented by men and now part of our folklore. I became an atheist before reading any apostate info, or scientific books that didn't agree with WT doctrine.
Richard Dawkins' "The God Delusion" was a key moment. I started coming out after reading his fantastic and logical work. I finally understood what evolution was and how natural selection worked. I was like touched by the grace of reason. I realized the version of evolution the WTS taught us naive sheep was a lie, riddled with quote-mining and strawmen fallacies.
I lost family and friends on this cult. My kids are EVERYTHING to me. I lost a lifetime of investment in "the truth", pioneering, giving talks. I barely survived suicide in extremis. Saved against my will — but so happy I am alive today. I told some of my story here:
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/experiences/236583/1/Divorced-Atheist-ex-JW-Dad#.UmNVh5TF0i9Today, I offer my time and energy to sites like this, my latest contribution being to Cedar's latest article:
http://jwsurvey.org/cedars-blog/the-1914-obsession-watchtower-clings-to-flawed-teaching-in-first-magazine-of-2014I thank JWN for helping me and others to come out and speak up.
May reason bless us all.
And thank you for reading. -

The GENERATION explanation is now a BOLD FACE LIE
by scotoma inwhen i first heard about the new "generation" explanation i was confused because i didn't see clearly how they were explaining it.. now it looks like they finally figured it out for themselves and it is no longer confusing.. it is now a simple, ignorant, bold face lie.. this is from the january 1st watchtower.
(and i hope to hell someone from writing gets wind of this).
paragraph 15 page 31 blue stands for the exact words in the watchtower.

Yep! Well said and spot on indeed.
You would probably get a kick out of Cedar's article. It's well atriculated and argued.
(yours truly illustrated it with a cartoon.):

Yes adamah, I am quite familiar with the "Oath of Innocence"* — well said. Love the phrase " Satan is God's henchmen, doing his bidding under his direction." Yep. Twisted story that is.
*When I was a kid, we used to say "cross my heart and hope to die"... LOL! I really took that seriously... fearfully. -

In any case, there can only be desperate rationalizations for these accounts.
The Abrahamic god is cruel. Period. The proof is in the biblical pudding.
Exactly cofty. It's funny how there is no moral of the story regarding God! LOL!In the meantime, we can all remember three things. God gives up his FAITHFUL ones to Satan, just because satan played 'dare' with Him.God loves to bet. And God likes to humiliate his faithful servants when they feel a wee bit righteous after the ordeal.

Yes, the story is indeed just that, a story.
One must wonder how this is any less egregious if a parable... and what is it supposed to say about God.
I'll check out http://www.bookofjob.org/ — looks very interesting. -

Food for thought:
The Flood.
If YOU were all powerful, would you have gotten rid of the 'wicked' at the time by just making all but Noah and his family painlessly drop dead, then making the bodies disappear — or would YOU have made Noah waste his time building an ark, placing each animal species on it then making pregnant mothers, babies die the horrors of drowning (plus all the rest of wildlife) — all of it destroying the planet to regretting it later?
I wish people would think! Job, Noah... all of these are blatant examples of unnecessary cruelty from a self titled "God of Love"...
Good video on Job! Well done from DarkMatter2525, as usual. -

"For the true Believer god can never be to cruel or indifferent to human suffering."
This is exactly where the problem lies. Any moral person would be appalled by this story if it happened to them or others.
However, when it comes for God — all the rationalizations for justification are out there. This is true for any Biblical account. Logic and morals just fly out the window. A Holy double-standard is accepted.
Job's story reminds me of the movie "Trading Places"... where 2 old cruel men in high places "play" with the life of others for a $1 bet!
What happens in the minds and hearts of believers that shut their moral standards off to anything God does?Fear?
