  please answer this question thoughtfully.. question #1:.

  if there were no holy book in existence--what would you or anybody else know about god and how would you know it?.

  QUESTION #1:

  If there were no Holy Book in existence--what would you or anybody else KNOW about God and how would you know it?
  If we had a decent scientific understanding at the time, we would know nothing of him — It's like if cars were invented today — gas would not even be an option.
  No fear of the unknown = No gods.

  QUESTION #2:

  If whatever Holy Book(s) turned out to be unreliable for any reason (or at least hit-and-miss) would that be any different from being totally wrong?
  No. This is why I encourage the believers to get surgery from a surgeon that operates with the Biblical knowledge of 2,000 years ago. After all, they trust their lives with the book.

  Rip, you are leaving me speechless.
  Needless to say when I believed I did go thinking these things — but the sheer absurdity of such thought only proves how detached belief is from reality.
  
  There is logic and even precious morals in the story of "Little Red Riding Hood". I could be extremely knowledgable about the story, know the full bio of the French Charles Perrault who was the first to pen the tale. I could talk for hours about how it teaches to not trust strangers, and have a debate to defend the logic of a wolf being able to talk in those days. I could philosophize on the meaning of the Red Hood itself, and yadda yadda yadda — BUT it is a fairy tale. It is NOT REAL. It's circular logic.
  
  I'm sorry that you think I don't have answers. I do. More than ever — and the quest continues...
  My questions are posed to understand the other, reason, and incite dialogue and thinking...

  Ancientofdays, I totally agree on fideism. But this is still a philosophy that has immense holes in it, and assumes starting points without any attachment to reality.
  
  My point of reference is reality — something I admit is not always obvious and is often a thing of perception... but persception is only an interpretation of reality.

  barely any jw can point at a gb member by face, fewer can name the governing body, fewer know these men in person or can account for them as people.

  not one person became a jw from reading matthew 24 and saying 'aha!'.

  an average of five kingdom halls being constructed daily, almost 8 million brothers and sisters, dissemination of bible literature in 595 languages, 111,795 congregations worldwide, distribution of 179 million bibles available in 116 languages, 239 countries where jehovah's witnesses have a presence, etc.. need i go on?.

  on the other hand........... crisis of conscience, freeminds, the awaa, jw.net, ummmmmm........hmmm........idk six screens or something?

  as some of you may know, i'm a pretty troubled lad who was on the verge of getting baptised but stopped when i learned the shocking truth about the organization.

  following that my own mother let me have it in anger to my decision.

  since then, my life has been true hell.. .

  No, I don't. As for life out there, I don't know. One can assume we are not the only ones. Assume being the key word.
  
  I have a question for you. Do you believe we are alone in the universe? If so, how do you know that? If not, did the same God create them?
