  Interesting debate.

  I have never read any of Mr. Bergman's writings, but reading this thread, something popped into my mind. I wonder if my molester was referring to Bergman when he wrote the following :

  "As Psychiatrist and Psychologist well know, mental illness is 85 percent higher among Jehovahs Witnesses than the population as a whole. However, when a Jehovahs Witness is admitted to a mental hospital he or she are warned by the Watchtower Society never to reveal in the admission forms that they are Jehovahs Witnesses. Why? The Watchtower leaders would find that devastating to their statement that Jehovahs Witnesses are the happiest people on earth. That is what Jehovahs Witnesses say about themselves. But in reality; they are the most miserable people in the world. Their every move is controlled and monitored and they are constantly brainwashed to walk in step as robots controlled by their masters."

  Of course, I am prejudiced, but I think this is further proof that authors/journalists/ psychiatrists/psychologists have to make sure their information is 100% accurate. If it is proven that facts are exaggerated to fit a particular hypothesis, an entire work may discounted as bogus.

  I'd say the onus was on the author to provide evidence when challenged.

  In the end, once a work is published, you just never know who may quote or misquote you to further their agenda, anyway.

  Dear Mimilly I want you to know I appreciate your kind words in response to posts of mine. It meant a lot. I think you have made valuable contributions to the jwsite. I understand the need for a break. I do it ALL THE TIME!!! You got to take care of yourself first. That way you'll be clear-headed and free to help others. That's what I do. In regards to the specifics of the post that upset you. Interestingly enough, I received at 5 a.m. (about 3 weeks ago from a foreign acquaintance who I respect and trust) an email with an attachment with no hint of what was in it. I didn't hesitate for a moment to open it because of our past history. Well, the attachment was a series of photos of the most horrific scenes of abuse of children -- a case that was going to be sent to the World Tribunal -- I can't even talk about specifics. I couldn't finish it..I was nautious to the point of almost vomiting. I was also in shock. There was no preparation, no warning. Was I upset at this person? Momentarily, yes. I didn't want to see this at 5a.m. Frankly I never want to see this. I cried my eyes out when they showed the dog being poisoned by the Taliban on CNN last night! Kinda of a weak stomach with visuals but not with word stories. We're all different eh! So, I truly understand how you feel and your reaction.   Deaddaisy, I certainly don't think everyone who sues is out for money. I said that if I sued that would be my only reason. Just upfront about that. But nope, not in this life! I do think though we live in a sue-happy society now. But that's my opinion.

  Tanalyst, I already have Witness orders for my book! One Witness in Sweden ordered 10 copies alone! Sure, locally, some might just be curious if they made it in print but others might be interested in the true, untold story.

  DID AN ELDER EVER HELP YOU?

  there are so many horror stories about elders.

  many people dislike or can't stand elders, in general.

  a number here have been truly hurt by some.

  I've experienced both extremes and even some in the middle.

  I had more than one Elder who went beyond the call of duty,

  becoming a foster father for me. Unfortunately when I left, that

  ended those loving relationships. It still hurts when I see them

  and they ignore me. Regardless, I KNOW they still care about

  me..they're just going by the rules. The one that was truly like a

  Dad, told an acquaintance about me, "Only God knows what

  Donald has been through. I will not judge him." I try to focus on

  those positives but am not always successful.

  Yes, one too many times. My invalid mother lives with my partner (since last sept) and I and some in the congregation she used to be associated with before she moved in with us said she was "Glorifying homosexuals" by living with us. Some said she was bad association even before she moved in because I visited her! It just infuriated me. I'd have driven her to her fricken meetings if she wanted me to. I'm not into controlling her life. I also think it's God who should judge his disciples, not his disciples!!!

  Sorry you're having to go through this. Just know you're not alone!

  when you have the "who is the poster you like least competition" i know this post will enable you to choose gravedancer as a prime candidate but tfb here goes:.

  it would seem as if everyone here is convinced that the organization of jehovah's witnesses is rife with molestors and they are raping kids at every juncture and every chance they get.

  perhaps with the latest attention silentlambs has been getting this issue is just more prevalent but the reactions of some seem so stooped in personal bitterness that they are willing to just blindly accuse any jw of being a molestor (even when they know nothing else about that person other than the person is a jw).. true i agree 110% that the policy of the 2 witness rule needs to be changed immediately and victims should be encouraged to go to the police.

  Someone recently asked me (who knows our story), the Elders didn't know you were abused for that long did they?

  "Three years. But isn't one day, one day too many?"

  I for one am thankful there are not more victims within Jehovah's Witness families than there are! Who'd want to make the number seem larger? Whenever I talk of Witnesses or am questioned about it, I never portray the Witnesses as "sexual abusers". My god, Witnesses can't even have premarital sex! It's the monsters who used the Society's system. And it's Elders who have a responsiblility to get themselves educated! I also think the Elders should never be talking to a child without a female present. Aren't most molesters of the male gender for godsake? There insensitivity is limitless but they have a lot of company. Society as a whole needs to get with the program!

  Minimus, I don't need to ask her. Her daughter was abused. At least my mother believes victims and will not shun her disf/diss children no matter what her Elders tell her!

  Unfortunately the onus is always on the victim to prove she/he was abused. Shows like Dateline, and now Connie Chung do make a difference. Victims will no longer be silenced.

  When you look into the eyes of the two young women who were on Connie Chung, there is no question they are telling the truth. My Witness mother said before it started, "Not that again." But afterwards, she said she believed the girls, adding, "The congregation will disfellowship that creep!" Mom goes, "The Elders believed you when you told!!" I said, "That's not a point. How could they not? Four victims in one household and the molester admits to it when comfronted."

  Nevertheless, could I ever relate to their experiences! It all rang true. Provide help? What help? Poo pooing the experience. No comprehension of the crime, the trauma, the need for compassion to the victim sitting before them.

  During the airing, my mother made comments two other times: "Why is he talking about this? He wasn't abused?" referring to Bill; and then, near the end, "I trust in Jehovah."

  I believe that my mother's reaction is similar to many Witnesses if they watched the interview. They probably won't deny those girls were abused but will rationalize that isolated incidents are being used to make Jehovah's congregation look bad.

  I hope more victims will come forward to share their stories. There is power in disclosure.
