special thanks to regular pioneer hawkaw who was no doubt responsible for much of the fine growth during the last month.

What kind of angel was Satan?
by Leander inthe bible mentions several different types of angels.
seraphim, cherubs and the archangel who is referred to as jesus.. my question is what type of angel was satan?
i could be wrong but it seems that satan may have been a bit more powerful than many of the other angels.

anybody see the new JW-commercial?

it is only airing in the north east us.. a brother who saw the commercial last friday said it was really nicely done.
it talks about family life and plays the kingdom songs in the background.. a telephone call to the society confirmed it was a trial, and it was a bonafide jw advertisement.. .

What JW fact would you like to know?
by sleepy injust been thinking about some info i would love to know but will probably never find out.. what i wish for is a book about the lives of the societies presidents.. i would like to have first hand acounts of what they were really like and what others thought of them.. did they really belive what they taught , were they con men or just slightly mad?.
i would mostly like to know about russell and rutherford.. trouble is there arent many people alive who would remmember them well.. prehaps someone can help me out.

i actually think lars' explanation is about as good as the innerrantist viewpoint can get, that this was a local phenomenon that appeared to be the sun standing still by an observer. that is certainly the way i interpreted to assuage myself while still a believer myself. im pretty sure the insight volumes mention that possibility too. and if i were a deity and had to provide light for some people for a little while longer than normal, thats the way id do it.
i think an important point that hasnt been mentioned tho is WHY the sun stood still. such an incredible and powerful interevention, all because the israelites didnt have enough daylight to kill everyone in the enemy army. nothing but total annihilation was satisfactory. why do so many of the greatest miracles in the OT involve genocides?

both of these accounts cannot be true.
either one is, or neither is, and this means that the bible is not error-free.

if the bible is a riddle only to be understood by the faithful, why are you even trying to explain scripture to an unbeliever? if you could convince an unbeliever that your explanation made sense, you would prove that the bible can be understood by an unbeliever and is therefore not the word of god. wouldnt it be better just to chuckle politely to yourself about how unbelievers get hung up on perceived logical inconsistencies and be on your merry way?

and kent and randy have posted the official united nations letter on their web sites.. here is the letter - put your cursor on the image and then right click on your mouse and hit "save image" to your computer.. .

just a note on terminology. im all for correct wording but lets not go nuts on this. to say 'registered with the UN as an NGO' is not inaccurate. just as you might register with the government as a not-for-profit organization or as a religion. it doesnt imply that you werent one before, it just indicates the status the body (UN in this case) recognizes you to have. the term NGO is chiefly a UN term. tho it describes any organization that is non-governmental just by definition, i dont really see it used in any other context, so it seems quite accceptable to talk of 'registering as an NGO.'
