  prehistoric man discovers fire and beyond!.

  i think that is a nice title.. just try to think back to the time he(man) learned to make it.. was that the time he was given a higher consciousness?.

  i wonder if that is true?.

  i also think the consesus is that man learned to harness fire caused by lightning strikes or natural means before he learned how to make it himself. perhaps thats why you wrote it 'discovery/invention'

  im just finishing up 'In the footsteps of Eve - The mysteries of human origins' by lee r berger myself. he does a nice job of fleshing out the fossils with speculative accounts of life from the viewpoint of primitive man and also fleshing out the science of paleoanthropology with accounts of the politics and personalities involved.

  DC scheduling

  well, i was chatting with my mom this weekend.

  she informed me that the summer convention was in early june this year.

  which also happens to be finals week for my brother.

  naturally summers are always low-demand times for indoor arenas. families attending alternate conventions, usually the preceding or following weekend at the same venue, are very common these days, despite being encouraged by the society to attend the assigned, 'if at all possible.'

  the full DC schedule appears in a recent WT, ive forgotten which. did someone post it here?

  personally, i find that a bit unlikely. but it would be very interesting if they did. then bronze age man with his developed theology and astrology mightve looked down on the primitive and archaic stone age 'campfires in the sky' notions that were actually not far off from the truth.

  i wonder when the first hominid was able to communicate in primitive language to another hominid the concept of 'why'

  when i was a kid aged 11 i was a jw kid but i absolutely loved to read and collect dc comics (superman batman etc).

  then guess what happened ?

  the wbts brought out an awake codemning them !!!

  a few years ago, some friends of mine had a problem with comics. seems one guy had lent some Spawn comics to his married friend. the guys are both huge comic readers and otherwise very nice, smart young guys. well it seems the wife started complaining of, you guessed it, weird feelings in the house. the feelings didnt go away until the comics were removed and my friends had learned their lesson and no longer enjoyed todd mcfarlanes excellent work.

  VERY interesting (April 1, 2002 WT, p.19)

  this statement is prety interesting.

  it's taken from the very latest watchtower article (april 1, 2002) the final sentence of paragraph 14 reads:.

  "if jehovah's organization knowingly endorsed false teachings, advice to read the bible would never be given to jehovah's witnesses and those to whom they preach.".

  im not sure everyone understood what the sentence is saying. i had to read it several times to get it. theyre saying if they were knowingly teaching non-biblical doctrine, then they wouldnt be giving advice to read the bible and risk blowing their cover. if they were knowingly up to no good, theyd try to discourage bible reading.

  btw, when the notes from this talk were originally getting emailed around by JWs, they were posted here several times. at that time, i mentioned that the point about there being more muslims than christians was way off. now that i hear the audio, i see he doesnt actually try to say there are more muslims than christians, but merely reports that someone told him that. lol. patented WT research techniques.

  wow, what an evasive answer. is there a single definitive statement in there? i cant find the july 8 article right now to see the original statement.

  this reminds me of last years district convention where a brother started off his talk with an illustration of endurance: the bristlecone pine that had been alive for 4,700 years!! if you want to preach a wacky chronology, at least try and keep track of it! no one else is going to.

  Luke 16:22-23? Explain this to me!

  hello people, i would like to know the take the jw's have on this bit of scripture taken from the kjv of luke 16; 22-23..... 22 and it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into abraham's bosom: the rich man also died and was buried;.

  23 and in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth abraham afar off, and lazarus in his bosom.. will someone tell me the spill on this piece of scripture?

  the burning hell myth is of persian origin. what i want to know is why jesus wouldve used persian mythology to teach truth. the more you try to sanctify this as inerrant scripture, the less sense it makes.

  i love the part where the non-descript 'minister of state, general, and minister of finance' are sitting around the table planning the demise of JWs. the finance guy talks about all the property of the WT as helping to pay off our debt!! how tiny a fraction of the US debt would the combined wealth of the WT defray?? like .01%? i love how the whole world centres around this tiny group.
