Why doen't God perform miracles today?

why did jesus do miracles?.

it is alledged that some 2000 years ago a man claimed to be the son of god , or even god himself (depends what religion you are).. in order to give some weight to his cliam he did some miracles, cured a few lepers, made a slap up lunch out of some fish and bread, and took a walk on some water.. all this to prove he was gods son.. but to prove it to who?.

if you ask a witness why god doen't perform miracles today , what do they say.. we don't need miracles today we have it all written in the bible.. der.

actually, ive always heard this expressed a little differently, which was miracles were needed when the existing structure was changing. in jesus' time, the jewish system was god's established means of worship and so miracles were provided to establish that gods blessing had moved to the christian congregation. once a structure is established, miracles are no longer needed.

in a similar vein, the WT points out all the semi-miraculous signs of the WT being chosen by god and a new structure replacing an old. there was 1914, clearly marking the kingdoms birth just as foretold, the incredible reversal on the long prison sentences imposed on the WT leaders, the mighty, earth-shaking 'trumpet blast' conventions from 1922-28, and of course, the miraculous growth. what? you didnt see all these miracles? where were you? well, too bad anyways, cause youre not getting any more.

Who wrote Esther?

jewish tradition i believe. one of the weirdest arguments in the whole SI book, in my opinion. read the book and see if it feels remotely like mordecai is recounting his own experiences. he is involved very little and most of the narrative involves stuff he wouldnt have had any knowledge of. any description of what mordecai was thinking or doing when he was not directly involved with the main characters of the story is totally absent. it baffles the mind.

hello all... i came across this line of questioning many months on the inet so i decided that i would submit just this once to peer pressure and make a usefull contribution to the board.. here is the question... is jesus just "a god?".

many of the regular inet surfers would have come across this line of questioning before so if you have you could just sit back and relax and read the replys.. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>.

Yes those scriptures refer to other 'gods' but what does it say about them? It is mocking the humans that have claimed godhood in their hearts-- it says 'but you will die like mere men'. It's a contrasting statement used to show how absurd it is to think of anyone as God but JEhovah/Yahweh Almighty.

Psalms 82 does not say 'you call yourself gods' but says 'I said you are gods' so i dont see how you think the psalmist is accusing the judges spoken of as 'claiming godhood.' if it was simply an unfounded claim, it wouldnt have made a good precedent for jesus to use to prove his point. what point exactly *do* trinitarians think jesus was making here? ive never understood this as a JW and i still dont...

well let me just toss out tho scriptures i always used to answer this:

Jo10:34-5:
Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are gods'? If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came--and the Scripture cannot be broken-- what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world?

where jesus was quoting Ps82:
I said, 'You are "gods";
you are all sons of the Most High.'
But you will die like mere men;
you will fall like every other ruler.

so what exactly is your definition of god?

New Title For Revelation Book

the watchtower's revelation commentary "revelation: it's grand climax at hand!

" is so amazingly self centered, as they apply nearly everything in the book of revelation to themselves, that perhaps they should give the book a new name.

here's my suggestion:.

of course the best was when an elder was giving a talk on esther and was making the point that esther isnt a book we talk about a lot or study a lot, "for example, there's no book Esther--Her grand climax at hand." totally unintentional, but immediately realized what hed said. had difficulty maintaining his composure.

Circuit Assembly Bklyn NY -Saturday 4/6/02

my sister went to the circuit assembly this past weekend here in bklyn ny.. they had a young sister on the platform helping to promote pioneering.the interesting point about this is that this young sister is attending college full time and actually said this in front of the audience.she brought out that she is going to college full-time and that since she "has only one more year left, she will wait to pioneer when she is in her last year of college because maybe then it probably won't be so hard.

" these were her exact words.. i find this to be very interesting.

those of us who have done parts or experiences or talks for circuit assemblies know that each talk and each part is scrutinized in practice sessions prior to the assembly in front of the circuit overseers.

hey, what *does* happen at an assembly where there are NONE baptized? do they still have the talk. it seems like every CA & SAD around here has about 3 these days, sometime more, sometimes just one or two but never zero. ive never heard of a zero altho im sure it must happen a lot.

WT Website Puts Up Articles On Molestation!

the listings below are a new offering from the watchtower website.

it seems the brothers have developed a real concern for putting up every article ever written about child abuse.

i appreciate this greatly as it helps the public to see the great deficiency of watchtower policy.

yeah, well i certainly agree that ULs are given ripe ground to flourish in the JW culture and that most elders/MSs that give parts are extremely injudicious about the sources of experiences they use. I also agree that any efforts to curb the enthusiasm of listeners of these dubious experiences are met with suspicion or defensiveness. but i think thats just a common fact of all cultures, especially religious cultures. i dont really think theres any particular desire by the WT to allow unfounded ULs to spread unchecked. if anything, they instill a fear of spreading or listening to any stories that arent straight from them. ("I'll believe it when i read in the Watchtower!")

so, i guess it kinda sounded like you are blaming the WT for not keeping a tighter rein on this, and i just think thats misplaced. on the other hand, i think it is partly a product of the WTs being too controlling, so that a simple publisher is discouraged from questioning an elder's talk that contains one of these stories. ie too much control. i just cringe a little when i hear something that sounds like 'not enough control.'
