  Convention Summary

  as promised, here are my observations from the three convention days here in hamilton, ontario.

  i hadnt expected to say much since many like lostmyreligion and bibleexaminer had already discussed it a lot.

  actually i have quite a few things to say, hopeful meaningful things.. a few general observations: .

  securesites?

  the wt sites appeared to be down yesterday and now theyre up (could be any number of reasons) - now i dont look thru the site very regularly so i dont know if this is new but the site contact tool has been moved behind a secure ssl layer using this securesites.com and in fact, the entire site is accessible thru it:.

  just curious why they would need ssl.

  JWs proof of bible's power?

  this argument is used a lot.

  the power of the bible's message is evidenced by the effect it has on people's lives, the strong families and morals within jw ranks.

  now whether or not families and morals are really that strong is another matter, let's leave that out for now.

  Projected Stats

  just thought for the helluvit, id play around with stats a bit more.

  i wanted to see if i could come up with some reasonable reliable projected growth numbers.

  607-1914 being phased out?

  years ago, when i first figured out the problems with the 607 chronology, i began to think that the society was mentioning the 7 times link to 1914 less and less in recent pubs.

  after all, the knowledge book gave it less space than the live forever book, and the fluffy require brochure doesnt mention it all.

  could it be, i wondered, that they are gradually phasing this teaching out?

  did you talk to the elders?

  on your way out, did you have the 'talk' with an elder?

  ) the kind of, 'excuse me, brother only-elder-who-i-really-trust, i've been having serious doubts about such-and-such and i would really appreciate it if you could help me see if i'm missing something, i sincerely want to know...'.

  i have a number of things to say about this wacky 45min school session.. why is it that it is inappropriate for the conductor to ever simply say that an answer is 'wrong'?

  invariably, he must ask for 'another answer,' particularly amusing during the true & false when there is only one other answer.

  shouldnt we be helped to reason on why someone might incorrectly come to this conclusion but why, in fact, this other conclusion is the 'correct' one?
