I remember a JW calendar, maybe 10 years ago or so, and it had a picture of a couple witnessing in a cold area (Alaska? Norway?...)anyway, the sister was wearing pants at the door. I was really surprised at the soundness of mind being shown. Usually every sister I know in a cold area wears long undies or tights under a hideous long skirt and high winter boots to cover the fact they are wearing long underwear. Personally, if I were a householder, it would be less distracting to me to see a woman dressing in pants in the middle of winter instead of a skirt. The skirt thing would make me wonder if they were freezing their buttocks off...or what was under that skirt anyway to keep them warm?

Blondie-Sorry to hear about your loss and I hope you are on the mend from your own emergency. Thanks for your comments, I don't know how you do it every week. You must study more than many Watchtower conductors.

Here's What We Know About Jehovah's Witnesses
by AllTimeJeff inthe condensed history set, to the music of the william tell overture.... some guy in the mid to late 19th century named c t russell felt spiritually disenchanted.
didn't believe in hell and other traditional christian beliefs that he grew up around.
so he read a lot, and got exposed to a lot of ideas.

And to think they want some to drive over a hundred miles each way for the 'privilege' of listening to this drivel.

JW Women Self-0Loathing - Get a Back Bone
by Band on the Run inan earlier thread about pants suits for women led me on this tangent.
women make up the majorty of witnesses.
they cannot be suppressed without their acquiescene.

Joe Namath aside, I doubt any man would give up a suit jacket and tie for the torture of wearing pantyhose. Once you lower them to use the pot, legs get a mind of their own and never pull up straight. The stinking seam is crooked on your behind and the leg is twisted at the thigh.

School for Congregation Elders
by C.O.B.E.Beef ini attended the school late last year, and it was an emotional and mental rollercoaster for me.
i was already divided in my heart to say the least.
one of the instructors stayed in my home for the week, and my family genuinely enjoyed his company.

Does anyone here homeschool their children?
by PaintedToeNail ini homeschool my son, he has just been accepted into the local community college in the dual-enrollment program.
he scored higher than average for english and slightly above average on math.
i don't homeschool because of the 'worldly' kids at the school.

My very rural location doesn't allow me to drive my kids to school on a daily basis. Every trip I make into town must have several errands attached to it due to the high cost of gas. The school system sucks here anyway. The library alone is like going into desert, there isn't much there. The only thing this town cares about is football (American football).
While living in my old town, I did ferry my son to school and back everyday, due once again to the bus situation. He was in Kindergarten and the big kids would hit the little ones and steal their things. They would trip them as they got off the bus. Those brats would even throw rocks at my son and me as we waited for the bus. I got fed up and started the ferrying thing. Crazy as it sounds, there were dozens of other parents who everyday would do the same thing. We all got to know each other as we lined the hallway waiting for the 'pickup' children to be released. We all had to sign a log everyday that indicated who we were and who we were picking up.
Am I qualified to teach physics or chemisty? No, I am not. However, I son is picking up those classes at the local college. He had to test for placement and the school was very pleased with his results. He is in the 'dual enrollment' or 'young scholars' program where he is able to attend both homeschool and college.
My daughter is in elementary level of school. When she was in public school, she was constantly achieving high marks in reading, math and science was complaining how boring it was because the class had to wait for some of the slower kids to catch up to the smarter ones. The teachers are even encouraged to use the smarter ones to teach the others, because the teachers don't have enough time to spread out to everyone over the day. I know this to be true, because I use secular, public school teachers manuals, textbooks and workbooks. The teachers manuals explain to teachers how to get smart kids to tutor the other kids, so teachers can work with problem students, do paperwork, plan classes and so forth. These problems increase with the class size.

This is a sad commentary on what happens at meetings. How can everyone act like nothing happened? You know everyone in the audience didn't get a word out of the rest of the meeting, they were all too shocked and probably concerned for that elder. A similiar thing happened at our cong. several years ago. A sister was struck by a motorcycle as she was turning into the parking lot. The biker was drunk and tried to illegally pass her as she turned left. The biker was tossed 30-50'through the air and ended up in the KH lawn. The sister had minor injuries as did her two kids. The meeting started a couple of minutes later. Meanwhile the EMTs and ambulances arrived. I stayed outside to see if I could help before the medical teams arrived as I had training in First Aid while working at the police dept. After the EMTs arrival, I was no longer of any use, so I went into the hall. We had a squeaky door, and as soon as the door opened you could see every head swivel to see what was going on. It was impossible to concentrate on the rest of the meeting, with shocking events going on outside and worrying about the sister and her family. It didn't help that there were shouts and sirens going on outside. It all seems very brazen and the blase' attitude of the ones conducting the meeting was sad.

This poor, poor woman, disfigured for life. It is amazing she didn't die from her burns, although she still is a risk for sever infection. It makes me realize how lucky I am to live where I do. Ms. Mullah probably only wanted to have a better life, instead it must have been a living hell. It is unbelievable to think what immigrants go through in search of something better. Often they end up as slaves, prostitutes, tortured and taken advantage of by unscrupulous, wicked people. What happened to this woman is worse than tragic.

How Did You Get Rid of Your Bound Volumes?
by Eiben Scrood inmy town will no longer collect old books like that as trash and they're pretty hard to burn.
my solution has been to include one in every bag of used cat litter when i clean the cat boxes.
i've gotten rid of around 30 that way and i'm about halfway there.

Threw them in the dumpster two years ago when hubby wasn't looking. They were in several boxes in the garage, mouldering and full of nasty spiders.
