I ask my spouse questions, he has no answers and often agrees that I am right. Yet, he says he will always remain a JW. He is a 3rd gen born-in...there are none so blind as he who just won't see.

by Bubblegum Apotheosis infield service hours have hit new records each year, but i am seeing less people working the territory.

The congregation where I was going had meetings for field service at 9:00 am, weekdays and Saturday. To be at the meeting for field service during the week required herculean effort if you had get kids off to school and drive to the very rural KH. When I asked why they met so early, the elder told me the older ones liked the meetings at that time. The older ones are very inflexible, I've noticed, when it comes to JW things. At another cong. I attended, the Service Meeting was at 7:00 pm. The elders were constantly harranguing everyone about getting to the KH on time. So many attendees worked 30-80 mi away, they forced a vote to have the meeting at 7:30 pm. The results were split almost evenly, but the old ones, who gave very few parts, were retired and had no kids to get ready, all voted to continue the 7:00 pm meeting time. The elders continued to beat the R & F about being there on time, and the hall always started to fill between 7:15 - 7:45.
By the way, meeting for field service before 9:30 am should be against the law. Who wants a bunch of religious weirdos knocking on their door on Saturday morning, at 9:20 am...its just criminal!

JW's 'put off living'
by Lady Viola ini was reading a book and read the following quote:.
"one of the most tragic things i know about human nature is.
that all of us tend to put off living.

Lady Viola-very thought provoking post. I've been reading a lot of self help books lately, and have had the conversations with my husband about us being able to come up with ideas of what we want to do in life. Trying to live in the present is quite difficult for those raised a JW. Trying to be positive about things is also a challenge, as we were supposed to find wickedness in everything but our religion, but I think I'm succeeding, most of the time.
AnnOMaly-I am so glad you decided to go against those in the cong. and have children, you are right, those who sacrificed having children for the paradise dream, do very often regret their decision, but it is too late to be remedied. I have friends in that position. Trying to encourage your kids to be happy in this life is really difficult when their father is really steeped in all the traditions of men of the GB, but I try to counter-balance my husband every time I can.

Why can Witness Doctors give Transfusions and sisters sell cigarettes??
by Witness 007 init's a "mortal sin" for a witness to not "abstain from blood" or smoke, yet witness elders who work in the medical field are free to administer blood transfusions.
and sisters that work in a supermarkets in the section that sells smokes are free to do so.....it's like not being immoral yourself but being a "pimp daddy" for others..

Straining out the gnats, aren't they. All the provisos: You can sell lottery tickets in this situation; but not in that. Sheesh! And to think at one time I agreed with these statements.

What Scriptural Support Is There For Believing in Second/Greater Fulfillments of Bible Prophecy?
by JWB inwhat scriptural support is there for believing in second/greater fulfillments of bible prophecy?.
this is a genuine equiry into where the idea of second/greater fulfillments of bible prophecy originated.
does it have definite scriptural support or is it simply an extra-biblical religious device thought up to try to make prophecies appear relevant to the modern age?

Vanderhoven7-Thank you for such interesting information. We have all been puzzled and terrorized by these interpretations, you have sorted them out and made sense of them.

Scriptural Grounds for divorce.....
by stuckinamovement ini was watching a dumb show with my dear wife.
in the program a wife tried unsuccessfully to kill her husband.
i remarked to my wife "if you ever did that i would divorce you!
-

When Jesus talked about remarriage after divorce, he didn't need to mention murderers or attempted murderers. Those that were these types of criminals were killed by the Romans, so one dead spouse could be easily replaced.

Connect the Dots in the Awake!?
by euripides inrecently, i saw an issue of despertad!
sitting around in a public place and leafed through it idly.
at the back of it, on the inside page opposite back page, was something like 'family fun' and a connect-the-dots game of joshua, or something like that.

Billy-How funny, I always did that too! It irritated my parents, but I did it anyway. My kids do it now. Sometimes, it makes for a real improvement.
